many women are excited to get old and weird, but i have great news that it's fully possible to become weird now, before you get old. just imagine the heights of weirdness you will be able to reach in fifty years if you get started now. that's what I think
let’s be real the pressure to use AI as an adult is exactly what they said the pressure the do drugs as a teenager would be like but the people that told us that caved immediately for the AI and definitely did not just say no

I don't understand how this is even a defence in the age of drone warfare.
Or even like... Cannon warfare.
Yeah, the Ottomans could have taken this in the fourteenth century.

#ok but this wouldve popped off in the age of zombie doomsday prepping
ngl it would be a fantastic larp location.
#why do people think shipping containers are the cure to every issue????#unless youre filling them with sand theyre not bulletproof#and theres no fucken roof
Fill the shipping containers with concrete to make Giant Bricks
I think even “cannon warfare” is giving it too much credit. These ain’t exactly the Theodosian Walls; I can’t imagine this compound standing up to really any degree of siege warfare — it really is more in the “zombie prepper” tradition.
The reason for that, I would wager, is that the contingent of right-wing USAmericans who think like this aren’t REALLY concerned about any kind of organized military force so much as they want to keep The Poors away from their stuff — in the propaganda they imbibe, homeless people, refugees, etc. are portrayed in a manner not dissimilar to shambling zombie hordes. So there’s going to be overlap between zombie prepping & manifestations of right-wing paranoia.
Though, also, given the cultural milieu from which this originates, how certain can we be that the person putting walls & guard towers around their rural compound is doing so to keep people OUT?
Addendum: another reblog thread of this post points out that their water supply appears to be OUTSIDE the walls. Forget siege weapons of any kind — the walls are completely useless except as an elevated vantage point from which to fire. Otherwise a non-factor: if you have a force that can defeat the inhabitants of this compound once they LEAVE said compound, you can successfully besiege it.
okay i know we normally do this with more pop-focused festivals but i wanna see how many metalheads are on this site: how many groups do you recognize?

July is disability pride month!! June & July prides should link in solidarity. Just like we have in the past, at least according to previous versions of the DSM
happy disability pride month to mean cripples, nasty addicts, people with down syndrome who arent nice and talk constant shit, wheelchair users that WILL run you over, autists that dont care and arent about to pretend to, people who lie to their psychiatrists, people that sit on the floor in public places with no benches, amputees that lie profusely about "what happened", ; to the "noncompliant", the "drug seeking", the "mean", the "difficult" and the "undeserving", and so on and so forth, i love us all and we deserve the world actually mwah mwah
to people that hide contraband in their assistive devices. to people that do party tricks they arent supposed to and people who will spit on you if you ask them to do party tricks. to people that weaponise the infantalisation of disabled people for their own purposes (theft et. al.). to the people who "misuse" their medication and people who dont take it at all. to my mother, who takes out her hearing aids when she doesnt want to hear shit anymore but will still pretend to be listening so you dont catch on. to people who sleep all the time and to people with "abnormal" circadian rhythms who are unwilling to alter their sleep/wake cycle to best appeal to societal (and moral) expectations. to people that complain loudly about inaccessibility and refuse to try and "make it work". to people that charge money for invasive questions and people that pretend not to understand the question at all.
Okay, I was just going to reblog this without commentary, but I can't keep this to myself. I'm a PhD student in environmental science and this is my fucking highway.
The first published study about climate change (that I am aware of-- feel free to point out if there's an older one) is an 1896 paper by Svante Arrhenius. He pointed out the link between the greenhouse effect and changes in atmospheric CO2.
Plate tectonics, which the geoscience community now recognizes as near indisputable, was a fringe theory until about the 1960s.
Just in case anyone thought that climate change was a "recent fad" in research.
We visited an old glass factory that was converted into a park and the photos can get very surreal.

"crochet can't be made by machines" went from being a cool fun fact to being a call to action of "so if you see mass manufactured crochet in Target, that was made by a person and they were underpaid and you should boycott it" which is true, it was made by a person, but EVERY item of clothing you own (that you did not purchase from a company using ethical labor) was made by a person being underpaid (at *best*.)
Sewing machines are operated by *people*. Knitting machines are operated by *people*. Yes lots of the process is automated but you cannot tell a machine "make me a t-shirt" or "make me a knit cardigan".
Higher awareness of fast fashion, and the true human labor and abuse behind it, is GREAT, but let's not pretend that the crochet hat in target is THE problem. Every article of clothing in target is the problem. "All clothes are made by people" is the jumping off point here into understanding this issue it's not just crochet it's the whole thing ahhhhHHHHHHHHHH
