“The letter about curses, the letter about the fact that Koral Tachonis was basically saying like, yeah, this scar bypasses all protections, but the Drowned Men get around that by selling their soul to someone else. And we can't grab it because it's not, owing your soul to a fairy is not a protection. On a dirty 20, the Old Path is very old, and it had to survive thousands of years under the oppression of the Shapers. So a lot of it comes down in folk stories and songs and rhymes and superstitions. One of the oldest superstitions is disrespecting a corpse at a funeral causes you to be haunted by the ghost of that you have disrespected.”
While we're on the topic of Sundered Lords have really bad days
Zebani Halovar.
Her nitwit little brother comes back after going awol for nearly 2 weeks, and manages to get back into their grandmother's good graces almost immediately.
Her nitwit little brother is invited to the meeting of the Sundered Houses
At the meeting of the Sundered Houses, her grandmother publicly reinforces to all the Lords present that she is getting passed over as heir in favour of her nitwit little brother.
After she comes to report that Halandil Fang isn't going ahead with her grandmother's revision, her nitwit little brother asserts his authority over her by telling her not to do anything without the authorities of her masters (aka him). Because he is the heir to the House, she can't do anything other than agree.
She goes with her uncle and some mercenaries & city soldiers to arrest Halandil, relying on word that he stole the Pariah Blades (presumably from Lady Dacen Cormoray) as a front to arrest him.
The excuse falls apart in 2 seconds because Thaisha Lloy is there and oops it turns out that the Pariah Blades to the Lloy family and they can take them back whenever they want.
Thaisha Lloy summons a storm to threaten the mercenaries and forces her to admit this is about the play. She and the mercenaries quickly realize how many people are there.
She then has to march home to tell her grandmother that she completely failed.
A wind blows out the candles they brought and she has to go home in the dark.

Julien desecrating Thjazi’s body at his funeral, but it’s just the DM realizing he has the funniest way to make Orcish Bugs Bunny continue to be a Problem for every noble in Aramán:
Mara: “We were gonna find a back corner of the theatre somewhere to make a very small drawing.”
Thaisha, standing in the centre of their massive ritual site where they channelled the whole-ass Gavzidra into the threshold of a theatre, centred on a play that called out to the very soul of the orc people, anchoring a whole damn afterlife back onto the world in one fell swoop, saving dozens and possibly hundreds of souls and creating an entire new species of celestial in the process: “… You should have clarified that in your letter.”
Like. I love this. Mara: you were supposed to start fucking small! Thaisha: Well no one told us that!
Holy fucking shit, the extent to which we have been balls to the wall fucking winging this from start to finish is incredible. Like, Azune stuck his hand into the middle of this ritual and it accidentally summoned a dragon, a creature not seen in centuries, as a byproduct, and it was a tiny and incredibly helpful sidenote to this whole venture.
No wonder Mara’s only response to seeing the Hallowed Round was “Holy shit!”
Like. People. Planning. Testing! Fucking anything! We do not just start with …
But uh. Well. Apparently we fucking do, around here?

So I got sick and spent the day listening to the first episodes of c4
Also playing stardew valley, but that's less relevant. There's a bunch of stuff I had forgotten.
The big takeaway does seem to be Brennan throwing dozens of hooks out there for anyone he thought likely to take them (like there's a moment where Kattigan has a chance to investigate what we now know is almost certainly Mara), and being pretty gentle with them if they don't. But also moving things along. There's a real sense of branching ways this could have gone.
For example, there seems to be a real timeline on Casamir and Cyd, like they could conceivably have gotten there in time to just miss them if they'd rushed it.
A thing that didn't stand out to me on first listen but absolutely does NOW is that the older orc gentleman telling the story says the Lloys FOUND a way to make the pariah blades in the mountain. The first time I'd assumed it was made it up, but the emphasis seems to be on secrets still burried in the mountain from the giant wars.
I think Termina is undead. Brennan says Bolaire's little backbox theater is diminishing. I had forgotten about the bottomless mist as well, but I think that it's a doorway to the tenebral reaches that the players now control. Bolaire also guesses Termina immediately, and seems to have books that do reference the Panto. Also I hate to keep referencing the Bolaire debates of the moment but those first three episodes he's a very breezy "Oh I didn't really know Thjazi", that possibly fits somewhere into the question of "Bolaire lies/Bolaire tells the truth but misleads/Bolaire tells the truth and is honest". Is Bolaire being a tragedy mask related to how he tells his own story?
I suppose that's an interesting question- can Termina be undead or can she only be broken? Thematic.
There's also the question of why and when. It's a broken mask. Then it's the bottomless cold mist. Then it's a healed mask. Then it's nothing, empty and normal. Also was it safe to have it at the funeral? If Julien hadn't spit on Thjazi, was that also an escape hatch?
Also, I'm not 100% convinced we're not going to find out the trickster shaper is still "alive" in some form. 21 Macguffins, aside from sounding like a new wave Ska band, is a lot to do when it took us 31 episodes to knock out the first three.
Knowing that Brennan mentioned the Gray Tower hasn't been much investigated, it does feel pretty glaring now every time the revolutionary council does something "under the advisement of the chamber of Lords Advisory" and nobody says hold on, I'm going to go down to my local representative and complain. Because it's always phrased like that. "The first person ever executed under the sole authority of the chamber of the Lords Advisory". Now there is a question of if the revolutionary council doesn't stop or even slow this nonsense, were they ever worth protecting, but you do gotta put SOMETHING up as an alternative you know, not just complain about what's there and let it be dismantled by people who want to be kings.
I had completely forgotten how aggressively Murray says fuck you to Primus Tachonis. Holy shit.
I'm never not going to love the line "Yeah, Wicky, you're getting promoted."
We really don't talk enough about Wulfric having a magical prosthetic leg and clothes on.
It is INCREDIBLY FUNNY in retrospect that the first Julien/Teor interaction is Julien realizing the Halovars have sent Teor to get murdered in a tailor shop and going "*shrug* well that's not my business".
It feels like there's another world where the crowkeepers aren't a faction that gets knocked out early and hard, and our heroes have to contend with making bedfellows with a powerful, ruthless, connected bunch of scumbags who can nevertheless get some stuff done.
It feels like there's a world where Thaisha or Kattigan- or possibly even Azune- get in touch with Mara before she's caught, and she becomes one of those NPCs who can guide them.
Aranessa mentions a gala to go on the night after the massacre, and how they shouldn't cancel it because appearances are important- it feels like there was a chance the Tachonis massacre goes on there? (I do know this is the one the Tachonises fake later, but if the condition is "the first time Occtis and Aranessa are together," how far do they push that?)
I had forgotten how goddamn charming Thjazi is in his introduction. "What are you doing for lunch later?" His interactions with Azune don't lead me to believe he thought Azune would be killed for fucking up his execution- he's giving him instructions on what to do afterwards.
I think there's an expectation built into D&D- to varying degrees its built by the system and the rules- that the story being told will be one in which clear enemies are defeated with violence. I think that leads people to focus on some strategies over others. I think it leads you very much to make lonely, individualistic choices, or choices confined to those people who are at the table as player characters, and to focus on combat and enemies (including hostile social encounters) over things that are perhaps more cooperative. Though maybe that's also the world we live in. It's tricky. Who knows?
so, how do we think aranessa is going to react to thjazi living in julien’s shadow. personally i think she’s gonna laugh until she cries then threaten shadow thjazi with a candle while julien is actively disassociating from the situation
Wick ducking into an alley to have a panic attack after getting overwhelmed by his lies and deceptions to his family and the other Sundered Houses only to run into Azune who is also having a panic attack after getting overwhelmed with his immense lies and deceptions to the Sundered Houses and his other responsibilities.

I tried out the solo journaling RPG Thousand Year Old Vampire. Here is my unfortunate character: Fiachra, a Gaelic thrall from IX century Iceland who ended up living through 600 years of misery and self-pity only to end up entombed in solidified lava in an Icelandic volcano. His Mark is that he is constantly cold and his breath is always frozen.
