Sorry OP for hijacking, I didn't want to put this in the main post but my tags were getting unruly so here goes, as a PSA--
Maybe be super careful about ice cream for dinner, specifically, tho. Absolutely do soda instead of water if that's what you can handle! Absolutely have a sweet or light dinner, do junk food if you have to, do yoghurt or peanut butter and crackers for dinner, hell do an apple and a slice of cheese if that's all you can manage. Absolutely no problem with that.
But idk if I'm in the minority here (very possible, my body is a lil weird, take with as much salt as you like, this may be more because I'm super light-weight and maybe it doesn't affect people with a normal amount of fat on their bones idk) but if I have ice cream and no protein as a dinner I am going to be V E R Y unwell. There will be a blood sugar crash, which could cause nightmares, weakness, shaking, and/or vomiting, either that night or the next morning. Hell I've even had it where I feel fine until I'm suddenly on the floor unable to get up to get juice/soda to fix my blood sugar. So, y'all know your bodies best, but I am politely requesting, have some healthy fats (like cheese, peanut butter, or avocado, handful of nuts) and/or protein (chicken, beef, beans, tofu, etc) somewhere around the time you have the icecream if you choose to do this.
And if you DO have a blood sugar crash:
It feels like: Hot, shaking, suddenly needing to be in a cool place (I have spent time on the bathroom floor 😑), dehydrated, may involve sudden vomiting. You may become VERY pale. I often have this feeling of "Oh I'm about to be VERY not ok." moments before it hits, but I'm also aware that this happens to me. You may find it difficult to get words out.
How to fix it: Juice or soda, or a piece of candy/sugar shoved directly into your face. EMTs carry glucose packets (straight sugar will do!) and basically tuck that under the patient's lip. I keep candy in a relatively accessible location, somewhere I could crawl to if I had to. I find juice/soda works best because it helps the 'feeling hot and dehydrated' problem too.
You will feel relief come almost instantly, especially with juice/soda.
IMPORTANT: After you've had sugar and you feel somewhat normal, you MUST have protein or healthy fats or both. Peanut butter on crackers, chicken, omelette, I don't care just have something substantial. This will help the blood sugar stabilisation.
Also, no, I'm not to my knowledge diabetic or prediabetic or anything, nobody's ever diagnosed anything like that in me. But I am also very lightweight, so that might be why I'm like that. It also seems to run in the family.
Anyway, yes! Eat whatever you can manage to eat! Eating any food is better than no food! But maybe be careful with your sugars, because a blood sugar crash can and will fuck up your day and you do not want that for yourself. 🙏
(I also find this tends to happen most to me when I have sugars right before bed, then I wake up and shortly after getting up have a ten-ton crash. Idk if that's normal. I did once have a massive crash because my fool teenage self tried having ice cream for breakfast, so yeah don't do that either. 😭)
