birthplace: san francisco, california
age: 39
date of birth: september 13, 1986

time in aurora bay: as a full time resident 10 years. also every summer 1989 - 2002, partial summers after

very minor tw: passing mention of death of grandparents
For Luca, his earliest memory of Aurora Bay was idyllic summers.
His mother’s parents had retired to the beach-side town in the late ‘80s when he was just a toddler (and his sister and brother had not yet been born). At the end of every school year, the family car was packed up for the hours-long drive from San Francisco so the kids could see their extended family.
To keep things fair, the family spent time out east during the end of year holidays (either Thanksgiving or Christmas) since his father’s family still lived out there. But to Luca, the summers were his preferred vacation.
He had always been called somewhat of a thoughtful child. From a young age, the praise was that he was someone that people could lean on and look to as a role model.
It had always made him feel special that as the oldest, he had a specific relationship with his grandparents that the younger kids didn't seem to get. That meant learning his nonna's recipes from her family back in Italy, or to learn exactly what her and nonno were saying when they thought people didn't exactly understand.
Eventually, he had started to age and while he still loved the beach, and his family he wanted different things. He was more involved with a small stable of friends and as he had had a major growth spurt in the 9th grade was recruited for multiple summer league baseball teams. He didn't want to let them down, he told his parents, as they were relying on him to fill the shortstop hole as they went for back-to-back championships. He still went to Aurora Bay, but not for the extended periods he had as a younger kid.
If it meant potentially having his parents out of the house so he could have some other, more private visitors during his high school days - well they never needed to know that.
After college, Luca had gone into the financial world in San Francisco. Living with multiple roommates had been part and parcel of the long hours, each like ships passing in the night. After a few years of that, his salary had been comfortable enough to finally, finally live alone for the first time in a long time.
In the finance world, it hadn't taken long for him to realize that what he loved was the analysis. The taking data in what felt like a complicated puzzle and turning it into an easy to understand picture. The rest of it, he could tell was going to quickly lead to burnout.
When his parents had let the kids know that nonna and nonno were ill, it had been an easy decision between the siblings. Luca would move down to Aurora Bay to live with them and the others would be there as much as they could with finishing college and starting their careers.
He had an amazing two years with the both of them, before they passed within months of each other. He ended up with their house in Seabrook Quarter, slowly fixing it up with the family's blessing.
He'd always had good memories of the visiting the Rock & Bowl in those idyllic summers, so when it went up for sale five years ago it was an easy decision. He could work for himself, finally, putting down roots in Aurora Bay.
He only hoped that his grandparents would be happy, that he'd equally fallen in love with their happy place.
Appearance
6'3", athletic build
Brown hair, generally lets it do what it wants but isn't a stranger to styling wax/pomade. The ends of his hair start to curl up if he lets it go too long between haircuts but hasn't let it get overly long to full curls in a long time.
Hazel eyes
Generally has some kind of facial hair, usually more on the tamed but scruff side. Can and will grow a fuller beard but tends to do that less as the weather warms up.
Has never met a t-shirt sleeve roll he doesn't like.
Has a plethora of random tattoos mostly with a nautical theme. The largest are two on his back, one on each shoulder blade (the right side is very similar to François' in look and placement, the left is a lighthouse). The next largest is the pirate ship on his left bicep. The rest include a compass on his right tricep, a mermaid and tiny symbols for his siblings and himself on his left arm and wrist, text on his right forearm, a tiny anchor on his chest (which started it all) and a fishbone on his hip.
Random Facts
Totally a golden retriever human, which is why an ultra-competitive world like finance would never have worked
Might come off as more of a pretty face with nothing upstairs (aka the classic himbo) but actually went to Stanford for Economics. A Bachelor's degree with distinction, even. But don't go spreading that around, he has a reputation to uphold.
The (almost) entire Cochrane family has a group chat -- this would be Luca + siblings, both parents (even though his mom is a Cochrane by marriage), his kooky uncle with the heaviest Boston accent in the universe, and cousins out east and even now some of their spouses. His aunt has boycotted because there were "too many notifications" so she is the only one not involved. It now has the (in Luca's personal opinion boring) name 'the Cochrane Family'. Alas, he is no longer allowed to rename said group chat, they voted. The kids (Luca, siblings, cousins + cousins in-law) have a side chat which is where the good stuff happens, aka the gossip and shit talking (lovingly).
Will absolutely play on your intramural baseball team, thank you for asking
Loves the ocean, but once tried to learn surfing and ended up breaking his toe so he and surfboards are mortal enemies forever

"Hey, it's always better to go for it than not--even without lessons." She grins for a moment, then gets a mock serious tone. "I mean, unless it's, like... Something actually dangerous. Then absolutely get the lessons. Don't go, like... swimming with sharks or skydiving or whatever on a whim." A smirk tugs her lips.
"Absolutely," she says with a nod, then gives a wistful sigh. "You know most bars don't even do 'ladies' night' or '$2 shot night' and all those other fun discounts anymore. So lame..." Her voice gets playfully quiet in a whisper tone. "I'm told they get high," she offers with a brief Cheshire Cat smile, "Which is... legal, so... I guess not that weird." A shrug. She laughs at his admission. "What? You don't want to dance wildly and talk loudly over mediocre DJing surrounded by sweaty, obnoxious drunks while completely sober? Crazy..."
Her smile is genuine and warm. "You, too." At the question, she gives a wary glance to her bouquet, it still looking a bit chaotic and sad, but not entirely terrible. "I think I have to be," she says. "You know how sometimes with art you just... keep adding more paint or whatever and it eventually becomes just... chaotic garbage? I worry if I add more flowers I'm gonna hit that point. So... This is it." She holds up the bouquet with a smirk, a couple of the flowers flopping outward as if giving up. "My Mona Lisa, if you will." She pushes the bouquet toward him, fighting a grin. "I think you should have them. You know, for being my muse through this journey, and all."
@lucacochrane
"I appreciate that you think I look like I would go swimming with sharks," he could only smirk too, because they had turned the corner to a bit absurd but it was entirely entertaining.
"It sounds like $2 shot night might have to come back to the Rock & Bowl occasionally, like old times." People did seem to love a theme, and that certainly was one - for those who could remember them. "I think I've blocked out any of those nights that were sober on those sticky dance floors. But the shots probably helped," he admitted, glad that they seemed to have the same memories - or parts of them - from similar experiences.
"I could never, after all your hard work!" She had gotten it pretty full though and an almost chaotic burst of colors - though in controlled chaos. "Might need to get a fancy vase to keep all that in, so you can have it in sight for as long as they end up sticking around." Cut flowers were hard, at least in his experience, to have longevity but the thought counted. Zoe seemed the type to at least have an idea of what she was doing in his mind, based purely on vibes. "I'll take being a behind the scenes muse though," he laughed. "Do you have a spot in mind to show this thing off?"
Addison looks at the leash, not realizing it's what she needs for the board to not float away. In new territory she discovers that her brain doesn't compute as well with things she is used too. The leash makes sense, securing it to the ankle that moves first before she eventually takes the leap to get onto the board.
Surprisingly it's sturdy under her. The thick foam keeps her afloat as she takes a minute to gather her bearings, fingers gliding against the board as she settles into a more sitting position. It's almost too late as she looks over at the paddle in her previous spot. A quick reach that almost has her falling into the waters is able to pick it up before the gentle waves push her out into the open waters.
"I think sitting is okay for now. I didn't imagine this to be as sturdy even though it looks big enough for two. How did you get into paddle boarding?"
"Yeah, you got it," he wanted to encourage her since it was nothing but a process. "Sitting is a good way to sort of get a feel for it. You can also like kind of lean most of your weight onto your knees, though that makes mine hurt after awhile," he admitted, using the paddle to get a little momentum going before the waves took over and they were further out than they planned too quickly.
"It's pretty recent, though it's fun!" Luca hoped she'd have fun at least, maybe once it was a little bit more familiar. "I tried the whole surfing thing, figured it made sense living in Southern California full time, you know? But I did some gnarly work to my foot that I won't give you all the details for, so then figured swimming would be it. But my sister actually recommended this as kind of like the between I guess?" That felt like a bit of a dump of information, trying to keep the two of them just about even, even this close to the shoreline.
"But enough about me!" This was meant to be a team effort and not just him rambling. "What made you want to explore it? And how's it feeling so far, you alright?"
"Well, the graphics are really great in it and the story is pretty fun. There's a lot of games that have really good sequels to them. I really enjoyed the second Uncharted over the first." Rohan played a lot of games to pass time and he really tried to give every game an equal chance even if it was a second game.
"That's fair. I wouldn't say I go to bed super late myself, though I do try and make an hour or two for gaming a day. I'd say that gaming is probably part of work for me." Even if his store was for comics, Rohan kept up with video games too and tried to talk to clients about the different new releases from both comics and video games and movies or television shows related to comics and video games. "Not that far. Like a few hours or so."
"You know, maybe it's not a bad idea. I already pretty much just rot on my phone before going to bed, at least this would be something fun?," he considered aloud. Though then the opposite thought was also true - what if it was too engaging that limiting it to only an hour or so would be a hardship of its own?
It was going to be something he'd likely be back and forth on for awhile, but at least he knew who to reach out to if he eventually decided one way or another. "Not too bad, you've got plenty to go! Maybe you should see if you can do some kind of game night at your place, people might love to browse and play at the same time?"

🌶 Pepper - Do they like spicy food? How good are they at tolerating spice?
"I like it, within reason I guess? Like as part of the receipe or like a good sauce or something to go with it? A-ok with me. But spice just for the sake of it, like eating a straight up habanero or something to prove you can do it? Not for me."
Does your muse like to cook? Would they cook with another?
"I love to cook! The more the merrier, that's how I learned even if I probably didn't retain as much as I should have. And like a cooking date which I think this is what this is asking about? Sure, count me in."

Zoe makes a show of looking down at his legs as if to check them out, smirking. "Oh, no, you absolutely could rock them. I don't doubt it for a second." Her amusement only grows as he describes his foray into high heels, Zoe's eyes practically lighting up. She has to fight a laugh when he mentions clomping around. "See, you needed a teacher to help you learn how to walk gracefully. Heel-toe, heel-toe, heel-toe..." As she says this, she demonstrates, miming wearing shoes at the same time, then laughs as she almost trips herself, just barely saving her bouquet in the process. "OK, OK... it's... way easier to do this when I'm actually wearing heels..."
Her smile grows with those inclusive words and she nods quickly. "Oh, they were. By the end of the night, I didn't even know I had feet half the time." Here she pauses, scrunching her face just a little with her next admission. "Granted, that was also probably because there were so many questionably-named and crazy-sweet shots being passed around... but, you know." A shrug, and then she adds. "I heard Gen-Z also doesn't actually drink as much as millennials. I kind of believe that."
"Yeah, I mean... The stores definitely still do the whole... prom spread in spring so I imagine it's still a money-maker?" She offers. "And ohhh my gosh I totally did. Just, like... a couple, including a hideous pair of leopard print heels that pink bows that were a near-exact match for this very... short and ruffled and dated pink and leopard print dress." She rolls her eyes, fighting a smile, "I wore it with one of those... bolero type crop jackets. I fucking loved that outfit." She lets out a nostalgic sigh, then laughs off her own words before continuing. "Zoe, by the way."
@lucacochrane
"See these are the types of lessons I needed back then, instead of just going for it." It was good memories though, a likely simpler time when just going for a laugh was more than enough. Her reenactment was making him full on laugh though, trying to picture said shoes instead of the air beneath the sharp angles of her feet. At least she was also having an equally good time with it, apparently.
"I think the drinks were the main point so that way the shoes were just forgotten about." At least that's what he had heard from his circle of friends for whom they were a regular accessory. "I heard that too. So what do they do? Just vape I guess?" Maybe he'd have to ask some of his Gen Z employees or his regular patrons. "Or are they too good for that and just stay sober?" His forehead wrinkled in deep thought. "I can't imagine that for every party though."
"Oh, duh!" Why hadn't he thought of that? "I'm Luca, amazing to meet you," he greeted Zoe with another smile. Or it had just brightened up again, because this conversation had had him pretty joyful throughout. "Think you've finally finished your masterpiece there?" he motioned to her very full bouquet. "Or still have more to add?"
"No, I suppose they're not," Juniper smiled. There were days that she missed home more than anything. "Do you miss it? San Francisco, I mean?" Sometimes she missed home so much that she didn't think coming here had been a good idea at all. And then she had a breakthrough with a student and remembered why she came here in the first place. "Yes, at the university." Juniper knew teaching had been her calling when she was younger, despite her small time at the publishing house. "British Literature. I think it's fitting. Mostly Shakespeare, medieval poetry, and some post-WWI." She'd always loved the stories she'd grown up on.
"Not in particular. Daisies remind me of my sister, so maybe some of those. I loved going to visit all sorts of botanical gardens in England. What about you? Are you in the market for anything specific."
"Eh yes and no?" he considered with a shrug of his shoulders. "I'm lucky I've been able to still get up there from time to time. And I used to come to Aurora Bay in the summers to stay with family as a kid so it's somewhere I've been used to." Of course, it had changed a ton over the years, but it had always had a special connection to his family. "Does teaching all of that make you miss home at all?" It surely had to be a reminder of home at least, and she had come a much longer distance that he had.
"Not really anything in mind. I only know a couple of them by name but usually just go with the ones that look nice. I'll probably end up with my sister judging anyway, so should pick something that she would probably like. I think she's into those peony things?" That sounded familiar at least, so he figured he'd probably just end up asking. "Are you close to your sister?"
🍺 Beer - If they are old enough to drink alcohol, how often do they drink it? And are they a lightweight, heavyweight, or something in between?
"How often? Honestly probably too much even still but I've tried to cut back. Like twice-ish a week? But within limits, I'm not an animal! Probably not a heavyweight but I can handle myself. So somewhere in between."

“ yeah I don’t think any of them have a choice. They’re all gonna look pretty different. Except that guy “ Gabe noted as he pointed to a guy who was color for color copying someone else’s design. “What would be the more garden them though. “
“ At least the view would be nice if I sulk in a garden ?” Gabe mused with a smirk as he glanced back at what he was trying to paint. He really needs to take an art class or something because how do he get older and have a harder time coloring in the lines. “ I just kind of got stuck in a spot and felt I was stagnant. Like no personal life, no friends really. It was uneventful” @lucacochrane
"Okay that's just showing someone has absolutely no creativity." And kind of weird, like no one was winning an award for painting a gnome at the town flower fest. Luca thought he probably had more paint on his fingers than on some parts of the little guy, from moving it around to try to get to all of the detailed pieces like the hands and facial hair. At least it was all meant to be washable.
"Makes sense, I know what you mean. I've been there too at times. Sounds like things have turned the corner for you though?"
