John was grunting and grumbling dreadfully. "Stop it." Joan chided him lightly. "I get boys making less fuss."

"Because it hurts." John moaned.

Just then, Martha burst in. "Is he alright?" she asked worriedly.

"Excuse me, Martha. It's hardly good form to enter a master's study without knocking." Joan said haughtily.

"She's with me," Aeris said as she entered the room behind Martha, "so she's fine." She turned to John. "What happened, John? Jenny told us you fell down the stairs."

"Yes, it's just a tumble, that's all." John answered, not wanting to worry her.

"Have you checked for concussion?" Martha asked Joan, her medical background instinctivly kicking in.

"I have, and I daresay I know a lot more about it than you." Joan replied stiffly.

"She was only asking, matron. There's no cause to be rude." Aeris defended her friend.

"Now, now, ladies." John intervened, not wanting an argument to break out between Aeris and Joan.

"I won't tolerate rudeness to my friends, John. You know that." Aeris told him.

"It's fine, Mrs Smith." Martha spoke up, trying to defuse things. ""I'll just tidy up." She moved to the desk and began tidying it up.

"Energy deficit." the Doctor remarked, making their presence known.

"Always happens with this kind of process."

"You speak as if you see this every day," Lazarus remarked, "Mr…?

"Doctor." the Time Lord corrected. "And well, no, not every day, but I have some experience of this kind of transformation."

"That's not possible. No one else is capable of doing what I've done tonight."

"Oh, it was very impressive, I'm not denying it." the Doctor said. "Very impressive. Using hyper-sonic sound waves to create a state of resonance? That's inspired."

"You understand the theory, then?"

"Enough to know that you couldn't possibly have allowed for all the variables." the Doctor warned.

"No experiment is entirely without risk." Lazarus waved him off.

"That contraption nearly exploded, Professor." Aeris said seriously. "You nearly killed yourself and everyone here tonight."

"You're not qualified to comment, young lady." Lady Thaw cut in haughtily, then turned to the Doctor. "Your intervention could've ruined the whole process."

"The process was over. The machine wouldn't power down. If I hadn't have stopped it, it would have exploded." the Doctor retorted.

"Then I thank you, Doctor." Lazarus said nonchalantely. "But that's a simple engineering problem. What happened inside the capsule was exactly what was supposed to happen. No more, no less."

"You've no way of knowing that until you've run proper tests." Martha told him.

Lazarus laughed. "Look at me! You can see what happened. I'm all the proof you need."

"The device will be properly certified before we start to operate commercially." Lady Thaw added.

"Commercially?!" Martha spluttered, not believing what she'd just heard. "You are joking! That'll cause chaos!"

"Not chaos, change." Lazarus corrected. "A chance for Humanity to evolve, improve."

"In other words, this is all about you and your wealthy clients living a little longer." Aeris said knowingly.

Suddenly, Happy Days are Here Again began playing from somewhere nearby and everyone stopped, wandering where the music was coming from. "What is that sound?" Sec demanded.

The Doctor came out of hiding, a wireless radio in his hands. "That would be me." he said, putting the radio down on a workbench. "Hello. Surprise. Boo. Etc."

"Doctor!" Sec snarled.

"The enemy of the Daleks!" Dalek Caan roared.

"Exterminate!" Dalek Jast shrieked, aiming it's weapon at the Time Lord.

"Don't even think about it!" Aeris snapped, coming out of hiding.

"You!" Sec glared.

"Yes, me." Aeris retorted. "Remember me? The girl who destroyed the Emperor."
