BIOGRAPHY !
When Catherine Edwards was nineteen years old, she entered a whirlwind romance with Liam Baker, an twenty five year old man who she met at a dinner party of a mutual friend. The two of them immediately hit it off and started dating, but the relationship fizzled out only two years later, as Catherine was heading off to graduate school at Oxford. Not long after arriving at Oxford did Catherine find out she was pregnant. Although she knew it would make graduate school tougher, she decided to keep the baby. Catherine's parents moved to Oxford to help her take care of Juniper so she could keep going to school, concerned that if Catherine didn't have help, she'd drop out. Catherine kept in touch with Liam after she had the baby, but he didn't seem to have an opinion on how his daughter was raised, so he became a distant figure in Catherine's life; although Liam made an effort with Juniper.
By the time Catherine was ready to graduate, she'd met another man, Oliver Fitzgeorge. The two fell in love and while Oliver's parents didn't approve of Catherine already having a child, the two of them got married when June was three. The family moved to London where Oliver's career took him. By then, Catherine had an offer to work in an art museum library archive. The little family flourished in their new life in London. Two years later, when little June was five, they welcomed Audrey and Arthur into the world. June was enthralled by her new siblings, helping her mother care for them where she could. She dressed them both up in cute outfits, read stories to them every night, helped her mother pick out toys for them. Even for a young age, June loved growing up caring for her two siblings. They grew up close to each other, June protective of the two of them.
Juniper's relationship with her birth father was an interesting one. He tried his best to keep in touch, but since his job kept him traveling most of the year, she didn't see a lot of Liam. By the age of nine, June had started to consider Oliver her father. After all, it was Oliver that was there when she first walked, when she cried over her first relationship, when she got caught shoplifting mascara from the corner store. Although her relationship with her birth father was solid, June realized she would rather put effort into a relationship that mattered to her. Her mother didn't pressure her to stop talking to her father at any point, knowing that it wasn't her place to make that decision for June. She ended up seeing him as often as his job would allow him to drop by, but she also didn't put extra effort into meeting up with him. To June, that was for the best because she did care about Oliver.
Like her mother, Juniper loved school. From a very young age, she enjoyed getting to go to class and learn. At first, June's mother wanted her in a public school, but that quickly changed with the arrival of the twins and Oliver's instance on the three of them going to a private school. June didn't care where she got to learn as long as she got to go to class every day. She was the type that even when she wasn't feeling well, she'd try to fake that she was fine in order to go to class—it never worked. After graduating from primary school, June knew she wanted to go to college at Oxford, like her mother. She got a degree in English Literature and got a job at a publishing company in Oxford while she worked on getting her master's degree. By the time Juniper was twenty six, she had her two degrees and a promising degree in publishing, but she knew the career wouldn't keep her happy long term.
It was her mother that pushed her to make the change. At twenty nine, June moved to London to get a master's degree so she could teach. A year and a half into her program, Juniper met Autumn Thorne on campus. The young woman was charismatic to a fault and June found herself falling in love. June and Autumn finished their respective programs, moved in together, and knew they wanted to spend the rest of their lives together. Autumn proposed on a vacation in Paris—maybe a little too on the nose for June, but she was happy so she didn't care. After a careful amount of time debating, she let Oliver walk her down the aisle. June found herself happy in her new life, teaching English Literature to university students, watching her wife succeed as a litigator, the promise of a bright future. She was happy.
However, something soured in their relationship. June and Autumn had always planned on starting a family. They made a plan for everything: who would carry the baby (June because Autumn couldn't), names, how many children they wanted, how far apart they'd like them to be. But what they didn't plan for was the heartbreak that came along the way. June struggled with through three pregnancies before she knew she couldn't go on. To her credit, Autumn didn't pressure her to keep trying, but it changed something in their relationship. They hadn't discussed the possibility of adoption, June was too fragile to think about it. When June turned thirty five, her mother passed away and it took an even bigger toll on her mental health. Autumn became distant and when they were together, fights seemed to start up for no reason. June let the fights go on for a lot longer than she should have, but finally filed for divorce when she was thirty eight.
After the divorce, she tried to get a routine going with her life but struggled. She moved in with her sister Audrey for a couple of months, but felt like she was in the way of her sister's life. Then she back in with Oliver who was happy to take care of her, though June still felt like she was a burden on his life. She considered reaching out to Liam to try and rekindle a relationship that had lapsed over the years. In the end, she realized needed a big change. Seeing an open position in a college in America, June decided to take the position. While it meant moving away from her dad, she was happy to finally feel somewhat free of all the negative emotions she felt like had been building up. So far, her first eight months in Aurora Bay have been a wonderful breath of fresh air.

"I have a really good bullshit detector from all the years listening to students give me stupid excuses for why they haven't finished an assignment. I think I'm a pretty attractive woman. I don't know, I love a lot of qualities about myself. The only thing I dislike is probably that I'm short."
"This is going to sound nerdy... an audiobook is more likely to relax me than music. Don't get me wrong, I love a good music. The stuff I listen to makes me want to get up in dance, finish cleaning my house, or grade papers. Classical music is nice to relax to, I guess, except I'd rather be listening to a book instead."
"I guess London and San Francisco aren't all that different then," he shrugged. He had never really thought about it, and had only traveled to London in his early 20s so it had been quite awhile. He knew the stereotype though that London was always expected to be rainy so likely it made sense that they'd have similar seasonal patterns. "Oh you teach?" He raised a brow, since that was an interesting tidbit. "Do you have a specific subject or grade you focus on?"
"Oh nice, that would be awesome to bring one home! Do you have any favorite flowers you'll be keeping an eye out for?"
"No, I suppose they're not," Juniper smiled. There were days that she missed home more than anything. "Do you miss it? San Francisco, I mean?" Sometimes she missed home so much that she didn't think coming here had been a good idea at all. And then she had a breakthrough with a student and remembered why she came here in the first place. "Yes, at the university." Juniper knew teaching had been her calling when she was younger, despite her small time at the publishing house. "British Literature. I think it's fitting. Mostly Shakespeare, medieval poetry, and some post-WWI." She'd always loved the stories she'd grown up on.
"Not in particular. Daisies remind me of my sister, so maybe some of those. I loved going to visit all sorts of botanical gardens in England. What about you? Are you in the market for anything specific."
"Not too soon at all, I don't think. I plan on visiting home for a couple of weeks and then teaching a class this summer. Well, I say going home, but I think the family is going to be at the vacation home."

"I hope so too. There's going to be other festivals and stuff too throughout the year as I'm sure you'll hear all about. I think this one is among the most popular though." Not only were there plenty of their fellow residents milling about, but it felt like the secret was out a bit with the continually growing number of visitors that seemed to be making the trek from around other parts of southern California at the very least.
"Mine? Hmm," he had to think about it, sucking a bit on his lower lip. "I think I like fall the absolute best, mainly because of the holidays in it. This is mainly in theory though. I didn't get a ton of variation where I grew up either, it was pretty much like wet season or dry but foggy season," he conceded. "Are you going to pick up any flowers while you're here? I think there's a make your own bouquet thing and all that."
"That's amazing. London always had something going on, but that's London, so it's expected." She never attended anything because most of the time she was busy, but it was nice to think about doing something in this town. "I'll have to look out for the different events. I'm sure my students will talk about them too." She was kind of excited.
"That makes sense." She was a fan of winter. Summers were too hot most of the time and she liked curling up with a fire going and a good book. However, she knew that was not going to be the case here. This past winter was so mild, so warm it was unusual. "I can see how annoying that would be," Juniper nodded. "Probably. I'd love a nice bouquet for my dining room table."
"British Literature?" Jase's eyes seem to light up. "Nice, nice. I was on a Yeats and T.S. Eliot kick back when I was in college, actually... And, I mean... Who doesn't love Shakespeare? Assuming you're teaching Shakespeare..." His smile stays as she continues and he gives a light laugh. "Oh, absolutely. I think everybody and their grandmother was watching Bridgerton. And Great British Bake Off, of course..." Jase is actually not engaged enough with recent television to recall more off the top of his head.
His gaze stays on her and he nods along with her words, soft smile staying on his lips. There's a rhythm to her speech pattern he can't help but enjoy. His brows furrow slightly at the mention of the ex being set in her ways. Jase enjoys routine, sure, but there's something interesting about the unexpected. He fights a laugh, nodding. "Really, I'm probably being generous saying it'd be the second half for me. But I'm good at being useful, so I figure I won't get outright sacrificed or double-crossed early in the plot, hopefully?"
"Straight into the mouth." He laughs, shaking his head. "You know, I think I've had that stuff two, maybe three times my whole life," he admits, smile staying. "Just never really appealed to me. And... Chemicals. 100% chemicals, I'm sure. Not a drop of actual cheese or milk in it I bet. Chemicals and preservatives." Another laugh, and then he straightens. "Don't get me wrong. I absolutely love junk food, too. Like... I could go to town on a tube of Pringles... Just apparently not spray cheese." Jase shrugs.
"That's fair," he says with a smile. Then again, did that mean he was just perceiving himself that way? He kind of wants to know what some of his buddies would think of him as, but that's probably an odd question to ask friends. His smile grows again at her response. "Nice, and classic, too. I like that. So then I assume shaken, not stirred?"
@junefitzgeorge
"I love TS Eliot," Juniper smiled. She did study Shakespeare and taught aclass on him that were high level, but she also studied a lot of older literature too. "I teach a Shakespeare too, just one class. My expertise is older literature. Beowulf and epic poetry. And a little bit of WWI era literature." Juniper was used to people talking about what they liked about British culture when they spoke to her. "I love Bakeoff." She used to make a big deal of watching it with her mum. "I don't think I've seen the most recent season with moving and everything." Settling into a new place right before the semester started was tough.
"There was a lot about moving here that was a bit freeing honestly." Part of it was getting away from a situation that wasn't terrible. "Trust me, I don't think anyone could be as awful as some of the people in my life before." Not only her ex, but her exes friends too. All around her life hadn't been... ideal. Now she was in a much better place.
"I could never." Once she'd seen it didn't need to be refrigerated she was out. It seems pretty awful honestly." She did not want to knock the culture though. "It's less of the chemicals for me and more of the fact that it should not come from a can at all." She nodded. "I learned Pringles aren't even real potato chips. Kind of a genius way to get rid of potato scraps. They're also not gluten free which is weird. But the flavor is good. White pepper makes everything taste better." She used it in a lot of her cooking.
"I prefer gin martinis. I've never really been a huge fan of vodka." Although Juniper had her fair share of vodka over the years. "But you can't really go wrong with either of type, depending on the day."
Dorian isn't usually one to have a quiet streak but he finds himself falling quiet. There's so many questions going through his mind but he doesn't know where he should even begin. "This is weird," he admits finally, "I haven't got a clue as to what I'm meant to say right now. This is so unexpected and yet I sort of feel as though I've somehow waited my whole life for this moment? I'm not sure if I'm making any sense. Stop me if you must."
It was odd. Juniper knew there was always the possibility of her birth father having more children out there, but she'd never really thought about it too hard. Her parents had been so young when they had her and honestly after her mother remarried, she often thought that her life was complete. "Me either. I sort of thought... I don't know this could happen to me, but it's weird." Juniper scrunched her nose and shifted in her seat. "How did we both end up here?" Of all places, a tourist town in California was the strangest place to meet.
🕷️ SPIDER - what is their biggest fear? do they have any irrational / mundane fears?
"I think my fears are all mundane. About the future and never finding someone I love. That scares me more than anything irrational. Although, I am not a fan of elevators in Europe. A lot of them are terrifying."
"Weirdly no. I think my life has turned out the way it was supposed to. I have a great career. There are days where I wish I'd have adopted a child, but I don't think that was the best idea considering everything else that happened."

"It's been going as long as I've been back living here, and I think even before. So like decade and a half, give or take?" His left hand followed the question with a give or take type of gesture. "Someone else would probably know exactly how long, but seems like it's kept growing and bringing in people with each passing year."
"Definitely spring-like, which still makes me laugh a little that we don't have as clear delineation of seasons as other places might." It wasn't as all-in as say, the rest of the southwest, but it was pretty pleasant with some rises and falls as the months passed in his opinion. "But fun to celebrate anyway!" He tried to look on the positive side of it. "Do you have a favorite time of year you think there should be a festival for?"
"Huh. It's kind of nice." She didn't get to celebrate the spring back home. There were tons of things to do in London during the spring, but not necessarily spring festivals like this near her. "It's kind of nice that the town does this. It's nice. And hopefully it keeps growing." Juniper smiled.
"Neither did I back home," she laughed. "But I loved it regardless." She missed the rain at least. The way it rained back home at least. "I've always loved spring. Flowers and new possibilities. What about you?"
And yet here Delilah was, the same place she'd always been. Sometimes she couldn't help but wonder, what that would be like. To start over someplace completely new, where nobody knew your name, where nothing kept you tied to it.
"It's nice to meet you, Juniper." She smiled, shaking the other woman's hand. "How would you feel about another drink?"
"It was worth it, I think. I miss my family, but that was always going to happen." Oxford wasn't far enough away and she loved London too much.
She wasn't sure if it was the divorce or her mum that drove her to leave England, but it was one of them. Something drew her to this town out of all the places in the states. She had yet to figure it out though.
"Pleasure to meet you too, Delilah. I'd love another drink."
Dorian spots his half sister as she comes into the cafe, his heart racing with both nerves and excitement as he waves her over. "You're Juniper?" he asks, realizing that maybe he's been a bit presumptuous in thinking that she's the right person. They met once before, though he wasn't aware of who she was at the time. He stands up and pulls out the chair across from his, "here, erm... have a seat." Maybe he's being kind of weird. He doesn't really know how he's meant to act. "If you'd like, of course." @junefitzgeorge
When her mum married her dad, Juniper always hoped she'd get siblings and she was happy. She thought that was it. Didn't think much of any other siblings out there, even though her father clearly could have other children. "I am." She smiled softly. He wasn't quite a stranger. They'd met before, but she didn't know much about him. "Oh, um, right." She took a seat. She was used to awkward, but this was strange. "
“Oh hey!” While they didn’t know each other super well, Luca had seen her around the neighborhood pretty often and felt accustomed to always being a friendly face himself. “Is this your first Flower fest? It’s kind of …a lot but glad you were able to come!”
"Is this a thing this town does every year?" she asked, looking around at all the chaos. Juniper had long figured out that this town had a lot of events at them. She didn't mind. It was kind of nice, but exhausting. "Of course, this is kind of nice. It feels very spring."
"I spent my first Christmas by myself after my husband died. I didn't feel like being merry, but I didn't want anyone else to feel like they couldn't celebrate just because I was there. In retrospect, I kind of regret it, but I was doing what felt right to me at the time."
She's done a good chunk of therapy to realize she didn't have to apologize for the ways she had acted on her grief.
"It's weird how the world just keeps going, isn't it?"
Juniper nodded along with her. She was still getting used to the world post everything that happened and she knew that eventually the pain and strange feelings would die down. While she wanted to go home for every holiday, she knew that it was going to be different. And she was trying to start something new here away from the place that held a lot of memories.
"I get that." Juniper probably needed to go to therapy herself, but she was focused on other stuff first.
"It is. Being in a new place is a lot more helpful than I thought it would be. I'm not usually one to make rash decisions, but this was a good one, I think."

In all honesty, Colton had been paying more attention to his phone than the task at hand; grocery shopping. It wasn't something he did often by himself anyway so he was pretty out of it. He had been googling differences between brands really...
"Oh" he said when a woman, looking tiny next to his six-three, spoke to him. "Uuum, sure. Olive oil, you said?" he asked and followed her a few steps down to where it was. "This one?" he reached up and pulled a bottle. || @junefitzgeorge
It was situations like this where Juniper cursed herself for not paying someone extra to do her grocery shopping for her. Often she found it difficult to reach things on the top shelf. Her ex had been tall enough that it wasn't that big of a deal, but now she didn't have that anymore.
"Yeah," she nodded. She absolutely hated bothering people, though making a mess if she knocked a bottle or two over was not the best thing to do in a store she'd have to shop in again in the future. "That's the one," she nodded. "Thank you."
Despite becoming closer to his mom in the years leading up to leaving Scotland, he's felt quite a bit alone since his grandparents passed away. He's always seen his mom as mother of a distant aunt than a mother figure. As for his father, he's never known the man and his mom couldn't give him much information even if he had tried to inquire. They met at some bar, she might say. Not because she wants to gatekeep information from Dorian, but because that's genuinely all she knows. Having any siblings has been a distant thought on Dorian's mind for awhile. He just didn't think they'd be nearby.
Seated at a table within the coffee house, he nervously plays with a straw wrapper in front of him. Never mind that he hasn't ordered yet and it's not even his wrapper, it provides him some comfort anyway. Every time someone comes in, he looks up, hoping he might recognize his own features in someone else's face. Dorian's not really sure why he's anxious about meeting his sibling. It's not as though he didn't consider it might happen when he submitted his genetics. As a kid who grew up a bit lonely, though, he does think about what it may have been like to have siblings. Even with a slight age gap between them, it would have been worlds closer than anyone he befriended in his youth.
Juniper knew her father, he'd stayed in contact all her life, but their relationship was... interesting. Sort of strained and a bit of a mess, she'd always considered her mum's second husband her father because he'd been there longer. They lived together, unlike her mother and her birth father. Growing up with a family like hers she could have been made to feel like an outsider, Juniper knew her grandmother hated her mum and to some degree Juniper herself. But Oliver Fitzgeorge never made her feel like she didn't belong and stood up to his own mother when she was being terrible to Juniper and her mum. The twins never made her feel like an outsider either.
Finding out that she had another half sibling out there was... well, strange. She knew it was a possibility when did the genetics testing. Her relationship with her birth father wasn't close enough that she knew what he'd been up to with other relationships. She was however more shocked that there was a match so close. She'd just moved to Aurora Bay on somewhat of a whim, something drawing here there instead of any sort of other reason. But she was late to the meeting, a student keeping her late to ask some important questions about a text they were reading.
She opened the door to the coffee shop, looking around to find the table she was supposed to be looking for. She'd order something in a bit, hoping to get settled first.
