Au where the bats are a little bit more morally grey then usual
TW: torture, OCC, ethically dubious things ig, idk crazy people behavior, (aka Batman saved Gotham from future supervillains by turning them into heroes)
Like don’t get me wrong killing is still off the table, but I mean torture is such a quick way to get information, and Batman is nothing if not efficient. The strange part is that the JL don’t know about this side of Batman, they think he’s just the nice but spooky one that doesn’t kill!
However Batman does things efficiently, quickest way to do something and he does it, no matter how gruesome it might be. He does the job, makes sure the suspect won’t die and leaves them for the cops to find.
Oracle doesn’t interrogate, she finds, hacking into whatever is needed to find out where you have been hiding, as long as its online it’s hers
Nightwing likes to play with his victims a little bit more though, when he has the time too. You can’t tell me that he wouldn’t want a little bit of vengeance now and again, besides B is just so boring and never let him have any fun when he was a kid (cough killing his parents murderer) so he does what he wants now.
Black Bat doesn’t like to hurt others, but scaring them out of their minds is never off the table, besides what’s a little mental damage anyway in the grand scheme of things
Red Hood is the only bat that kills, but he’s also strangely the one with the strongest morals, he won’t torture a guy trying to feed his family, that’s just wrong, the scum that was trafficking though, well after the information was told, Hood reveals who the bullet in his gun is for.
Red Robin is a bit more like Oracle, he’s unsettling and using psychology to the max. However I can only imagine that he has the most ethically dubious plans, planting information to arrest someone ect ect, as long as you get to the end results right?
Spoiler is strangely energetic when interacting, hyper and guessing what the captive has to say, she more confirms the information that she knew then interrogates. The scary part is that it means that she does it more or less for fun
Signal doesn’t particularly like interrogating when he can just use his ghost vision to see what’s happening, besides while he’s skeleton shift for the daytime, it’s real busy keeping Gotham safe on your own.
Robin is done with that lifestyle now and would rather steal animals and other creatures to take care of, even if the animal is “nationally protected” or “illegal to have” and “they could get arrested”.
The teams of course know that the bats are a little crazy, you have to be to live in Gotham, but they never know the extent of crazy they can truly possess.

So I'm writing something that sits around the end of Y17/beginning of Y18, which is end of post-Crisis/beginning of N52 if you count that as one timeline, which I am because Convergence and also because I Want To.
So rn in canon, Cass is Batgirl, right? At the end of post-Crisis, Steph is Batgirl. Ik that rn they call Steph Batgirl sometimes, but ehhh...is she??? She dresses more like Spoiler. I do love the idea of Cass and Steph sharing the mantle, I just think Steph should have both titles.
Anyway! Not the point!
If Steph is Batgirl at the end of Y17 in this hypothetical timeline where Cass returns from Hong Kong instead of staying like in canon (before she got erased because Didio sucks as a human being), what name would she use? Would she be Batgirl, or would she be Black Bat?
The reason I'm asking is, I'm still digging into Cass's lore and learning more about her. It's fun, it's great, I just like reading physical for a lot of older stuff so it's...slow going. And I'd rather ask the actual experts on her character about this. Was Black Bat considered a good direction for her character? Did you guys like that name for her? Or was Batgirl better?
I'm personally leaning towards Batgirl, but idk, what does Cass nation think about this?
Digital redraw WIP of a Cass comic cover (I don't know which issue, but Dan Mora was the artist). Gotta work on the buildings now, and I really don't want to and then final touches. I also might redo her suit colors, it looked darker to me earlier than it does now.
