like sam was somehow feeding and clothing himself while at stanford and he was pissy about the credit card scam thing so we can assume he was earning legitimate money in some capacity and that stream of revenue either stopped immediately or ran out quickly and thus sam had to comply w the credit card scams dean was running. and like i say fiscal control not in a restrictive way but like i do believe dean would find some id-like pleasure in providing for sam in such a material way. love to get a little wild imagining he got off on even being performative and grandiose about it like “no no sammy order another drink i got it no no sammy dw about how much these elaborate uniforms for our cover cost i have these credit cards rmbr sammy it’s literally ok that your past life is in shambles and left behind and everything you built is no longer yours to access you’re not gonna go hungry or cold i got it”. like it’s fraudulent money but i just feel in my bones dean loved that initial transition where sam was truly dependent on dean to provide. fucker probably liked how much sam detested the concept anyway not only because he’s weird about controlling sam but also because it meant it was entirely in his hands like sam wanted nothing to do with the scamming. the satisfaction probably waned as sam readjusted to the lifestyle and got more directly involved in such processes. in my heart of hearts ik dean wants to sugar sam a little. he’s taking care of his brother w outrageous pseudonyms and lots of plastic cards <3
