I mean, *looks at Anthony*, we know Utherâs going to die, so does that make it different than for say Merlin and Arthur who are obviously going to grow old together. Bradley: Do you mean Merlin and Arthur are going to grow old together, or Colin and Bradley? "During the first season, I didnât really get Colin and his sarcastic sense of humor. I think we were both wondering if we could get along. But then I discovered a really funny guy, with a very particular sense of humor, very different from my other friends, but a really good person. So we started joking around, a bit like Arthur and Merlin, and became inseparable on set." ~ Bradley James "Itâs great because you can go and have a bit of a laugh before your scenes, when thereâs humor and comedy involved, but equally when it comes to more dramatic ones, or ones that are a bit heavier. We also can tone it down and focus on it, as well. Weâre both challenged with the work, in that way. Because we get on so well, it never feels like work, which is great." ~ Colin Morgan âI think that if you have someone in your life you really get on with and you go through a series of quite extreme events with them, then you truly bond with that person.â ~ Bradley James "The two of them are â well, you know, theyâre inseparable." ~ Anthony Head "At first glance, you might not think that Merlin and Arthur have a lot in common, but you gradually see that they have a real connection. They both have lost a parent, and they share a past. Itâs lovely to see these little moments between them where there are clearly deeper things going on." ~ Colin Morgan "They fall out straight away when Merlin doesnât take too kindly to the way Arthur is treating a servant. Arthur tends to use brute force and ignorance to get what he wants. His privileged upbringing has an effect on his personality. When you grow up with people deferring to you it has an impact on the way you behave. But Merlin is a catalyst for a change in his behaviour. He sees in Merlin a lot more than he judges at first and it helps him realise the kind of man he could become." ~ Bradley James "Colin is a very good friend. I could not talk about his past, but from what I understand, he was raised in the Catholic tradition, and this is reflected in his opinions and attitude. So at this level we are quite opposite, and rightly, I think it works. Moreover, by working directly with people all day, we have the opportunity to learn, and as we work together all the time, I had the privilege of sharing many moments with him. It is very funny, we became very close, we laugh a lot. We spend very good moments on the set." ~ Bradley James âColin and Bradley together are hilarious. Theyâve got so many on-going jokes at six oâclock in the morning in the car, that you want to sleep but theyâre just going and firing it off at each other. And that type of relationship really shows again when theyâre playing their characters because they got such an ease between the two of themâŠitâs really nice to watch.â ~ Katie McGrath âUm. Myself and Colin have spent a lot of time together the last 2 years. And yesterday, uh, Colin was practically asleep, we got into London at like 7 - i dunno, something stupid - in the morning, and we were talking to somebody and I said a joke, and the person I was talking to didnât laugh, but Colin woke up and went hahahaha. And, itâs just-itâs just kind of, and I, you know, I find myself knowing - I donât know, just picking on this strange wavelength that weâve created, between the pair of us, and not being able to step away until, after, I go oh my god, weâre a pair of weirdos.â ~ Bradley James "Bradley and me get on really well, yeah uh.... He was actually, Bradley was the first person I met before we even started filming. It has been great fun on set when we've got scenes together. I think we've got a very similar kind of.... Sometimes I think we've got a very similar way of working, you know. We tend to focus very steadily on what we're doing and can have a bit of fun with it as well. So yeah, we're getting on well." ~ Colin Morgan "In Merlin, Arthur has a very loyal friend who keeps him on his toes. Arthur enjoys those challenges, and there is a lot of great banter between them. Meanwhile, in Arthur, Merlin has a friend he can really rely on. Merlin knows that when it comes the crunch Arthur will always do the right thing. Arthur is a great man to have by your side in a crisis. They also have a great rapport and enjoy each otherâs company â despite not admitting that! The fact that Arthur always brings Merlin along on the most dangerous missions without any chainmail shows how much he needs him. Merlin never says, âShouldnât I be wearing armour? Iâm completely ill-prepared for this mission.â He just accepts it, as he has been doing it for years. People really identify with their relationship. They think, âIf I had someone like that in my life, Iâd be very happy indeed.â" ~ Bradley James âWhen we first met Merlin, he was a young man and Arthur (Bradley James) was a young prince. In the past five seasons, my character has gone from being a poodle to an Irish wolfhound. Itâs been a big learning curve for him as well as Arthur. Theyâve grown up together, both as characters and in their friendship. Merlin and Arthur are essentially complete opposites, but have to work side-by-side towards the same goal.â ~ Colin Morgan âI find inspiration with Colin. We have a lot of fun working together. Iâve been very fortunate that weâve had such a great working relationship that itâs translated onto the screen. Because heâs been a big part of the show, weâve had to work together so much. Weâve had a lot of scenes to do, and itâs made them enjoyable, so inspiration comes from hanging out together âcause we have a laugh.â ~ Bradley James âIâve always thought the show should end with a long conversation between Arthur and Merlin. A face to face where they would say everything they have in heart and all their secrets would be revealed. Last episode is like that. Colin and I have been able to play all the different aspects of the relationship between these two men who are the best friends in the world, despite their differences. Those scenes are really emotional and for me, they were a way to say goodbye to Colin. I love this guy, even if on set I was constantly making fun of him or hitting him.â ~ Bradley James I'm Anne, Merlin lover since '09, living in suburban Philadelphia. I'd rather be in London.
