My favorite scenes in the LotR books are the ones where Legolas has vital information and just decides it's not important to share.
Like when Gandalf spent literal PAGES trying to figure out why the vibes were off in Moria and Legolas chimes in with just "it's a balrog :) that shit's evil :) we're so fucked :)" like what do you MEAN you knew already and just didn't tell him??
Or at the beginning of Two Towers when Aragorn thinks there's something nearby so he puts his ear to the ground to listen, and then like 10 minutes later is like "hmmm i hear horses" and Legolas is just like "mm yep. there are 105 blond bitches with spears" like you just let your friend put his face in the dirt and you can SEE them??
Legolas please gain a sense of urgency
It's because legolas hasn't spent enough time with non-elves to remember that they don't know what he knows.
gandalf is scratching his head in moria, and legolas is thinking "oh man, the wizard noticed something off *besides* the obvious balrog that we all are aware of??"
"I wonder what aragorn is listening for? must be hard to hear, what with all of the horses. How many horses are there, actually? 1... 2... 3..."
"What do your elvish eyes see?" is Aragorn saying, as politely as possible, "Because the REST OF US are at a significant disadvantage, Prince Dipshit."
we need to have a conversation about how the "everyone is 12" theory of politics now doesn't only apply to conservative men who want to kick the bad guys' asses and then go home and eat a steak their bangmommy made just for them (NO VEGGIES!!!) but also to adult women who are literally afraid of other people having sex and being sexy. it's like there's been this massive regression among women in their 20s where we've gotten rid of feminism and replaced it with a new form of purity politics that requires never saying anything bad about another women unless you find a new and creative way to call her a whore. the misuse of "she caters to the male gaze" as a new form of enlightened slut shaming, labeling any woman who wears a short skirt or has sex with a man as "not a girls' girl" and "a pick me," the intense overreaction to celebrity affairs or even just shit like the summer house mess where a woman is now dating another woman's ex even though there was no overlap and the "relationship" was just kind of a situationship that fizzled but now these little girls are online demanding both people involved in the new relationship lose their jobs and not get any brand deals, the panic over mildly sexual content in literally any capacity like ads or an instagram post in a crop top, the compulsion to link everything back to the epstein files, the monthly meltdown over sex scenes on tv and in movies. everyone is 12 and AFRAID of sabrina carpenter.
a helpful guide
and yeah i don't think it's a mistake that there are basically two ages a woman can be, which is a literal child whose brain isn't developed yet so nothing she does is ever her fault bc she is constantly in some state of being groomed by malevolent ((forces)) so she needs to be told what to do by an authority figure who knows better, or a disgusting monstrous crone (over 30) who wasted her fertile years being a girlboss so she should just pack up her dusty vagina and move into a home bc nobody will ever want her again and it's embarrassing for her to still be out there enjoying her life. it's just pathetic that so many women who consider themselves progressive and even feminist have internalized this dichotomy which is indistinguishable from the way right-wing men view them

"lock in" is probably one of the most important phrases to enter the public lexicon in the 2020s
period cramps gender dysphoria on the iron throne was so on the nose but it was good so i dont even care. what if your body physically recoiled at the seat you've placed it upon. what if the literal site where your body touches the throne is soaked in blood. what if you wanted to bring the symbolic phallic sword. what if you didnt because its not who you are. what if you started bleeding the moment you put it aside. how romantic it must be to be locked away in a castle and made to squeeze out heirs. how romantic it must be to be locked away in a castle and finally sit on the iron throne! what if it was uncomfortable. what if you werent made for this because no one is made for this. what if your womb was a grave. what if it was reminding you right now. what if the thing that you have resented as your defining feature your entire life decided to torture you during the moment you've waited your entire life for. your father bled on this throne too when he pricked his fingers on its sharp edges. is that blood any different? your two eldest sons are dead would you like a bodily reminder that you can have more targaryen heirs? isn't that what its all about? more targaryen heirs? more and more and more targaryen heirs? dont you want to give birth again dont you want to live in this castle and squeeze out more targaryen heirs? dont you wish you were your father your uncle your half-brother dont you wish you were literally anyone else. do you think you would have started bleeding if you just brought the sword. do you think you would have started bleeding if you were just someone else. dont forget your father bled too
ok lestat I understand you

on a small break at work and my dash is dead so imma drop some thoughts on p'aof's shows under the cut so i won't be sniped out of the fandom
i think i realized why pâaofâs works donât quite work on me anymore, and i think itâs because thereâs a certain level of..'compliance' to them that iâve started to question
when i watched bad buddy for the first time, i thought the line 'we canât change the world, but the world canât change us either' was incredibly powerful. but now i keep wondering why all of pâaofâs characters seem so fundamentally helpless against society. they donât challenge the structures that hurt them, they adapt to them
pat and pran keep pretending to hate each other instead of confronting the absurdity of their familiesâ feud. tian has to leave and study abroad. day has to regain his sight, and mork has to find a more ârespectableâ job before they can have their happy ending. tanrak still has to hold onto his faith. over and over, the resolution isnât that society changes or becomes more accepting, itâs that the characters figure out how to fit themselves into it
itâs like the underlying message is: you can be queer, but only if you find a place for yourself within the existing system. you can survive it, negotiate with it, make compromises with it, but you canât imagine changing it. the system itself is treated as immovable, almost natural. what stands out to me even more is that the system itself is rarely held accountable for the harm it causes. the families, institutions, economic realities, or social expectations that create the conflict are usually presented as facts of life rather than things that deserve scrutiny or criticism. the emotional work of resolving that harm falls almost entirely on the characters themselves. they have to forgive, mature, compromise, move away, become more employable, become more resilient. the burden of adaptation almost always belongs to the people who were hurt
and i think thatâs what doesnât resonate with me anymore. i used to read those endings as hopeful because they insisted that love could endure despite the world, which is great and all, but now they feel almost defeatist. the characters win by accommodating the world, not by transforming it. even when they refuse to let society define who they are, they still end up reorganizing their lives around societyâs limits
maybe thatâs intentional. maybe pâaof is interested in telling stories about survival rather than resistance, and thereâs value in that. maybe his worldview is that the world is difficult, institutions are bigger than individuals, and maturity means learning how to preserve your capacity to love within those constraints, which don't get me wrong..it's still pretty revolutionary. but i think iâve reached a point where im more interested in stories that ask âwhy should the characters be the ones doing all the adapting?â instead of accepting that the world simply cannot be changed
i open and close tumblr like it's a fridge

iwtv is not, contrary to popular belief, about sex or vampires or yaoi or interviews or the nature of celebrity, but parents crying and sobbing and beating their chests over the death of their daughter. the story does not kill claudia to highlight the destruction of vampirism. the story is about vampires because claudia dies and that pain is longer than a human lifetime.
u guys omfg can we try feminism again. can we breathe life back into feminism's wounded and perishing body like OMFG she's dying...
