So I was thinking what if Shane had this Snoopy plush as a kid that came with a detachable Woodstock plush and he brought them everywhere with him. At some point he runs into Irina and he tells her he’s going to be in the MHL one day, and she tells him she has a son who wants to go pro too and maybe one day they’d meet.

Shane can’t understand why she looks so sad when she says this and is like if he’s anything like you I think we’d be great friends! But then his little kid brain gets concerned, like how will I know it’s him? And has the brilliant idea to give Irina the Woodstock plush. His initials are written on a foot on both Snoopy and Woodstock in case he lost them. Asks Irina to tell him her son’s name and he’d write his initials on Snoopy’s other foot. Then if they ever met again they’d be able to recognize each other because they’d have the other half of the plushie pair.

Irina thinks Shane is adorable and gives him IR, of course not actually believing anything will come of it, but what could the harm be? She writes IR on Woodstock’s other foot before giving the plush to Ilya, and after telling him to keep the toy hidden away from his father and brother, tells him about the boy she met who seemed to love hockey even more than he did.

Ilya of course keeps the toy throughout the years, holding it even more dear along with her necklace after she dies. He keeps the plush hidden away in a box of everything he’d managed to keep from his mom, and while he doesn’t forget how his mom got the plush, he does end up forgetting the plush had initials on its foot of the boy his mom told him he might meet one day.

It isn’t until Ilya is unpacking his stuff in Ottawa with Shane helping him when he goes through his stuff again and finds Woodstock. Finds the SH and IR written in permanent marker on its feet and shows Shane joking how coincidental it was for his initials to be the same. Ilya gets a little concerned when Shane’s face fills with shock instead of laughing with him.

Meanwhile Shane lowkey freaked out like what are the chances? He himself barely remembers the pair of initials he had written on Snoopy’s other foot and tells Ilya he needs to do something real quick and goes back to his parents house trying to find his snoopy plush again to try and confirm. Eventually he manages to dig it out from the back of a closet or something and sees the SH on one foot and IR on the other.
