Non-spicy ways to show Intimacy
Intimacy isn't always just the spicy stuff! Here's a few ways to show it through your characters in a few, simple ways...
Kissing their S/O's hand, knuckles, wrist...bonus points for eye contact!
Speaking of which...eyes. Glances across the room, prolonged eye contact, staring at each other
Tending to the other's wounds/ injuries
Knowing the other's tiny habits
Reaching out to the other when in pain, trouble, ect
Whispering jokes to each other
Carefully wiping off a stain from their clothes or face
Taking care of each other when sick or hurt
Hand over the heart/ ear over the heart just to hear it beat
Pressing their thumb over the pulse point for the same thing
Tracing scars, tattoos, birth marks, freckles
Giving the other something tiny that means a lot, a picture, a shiny rock, a flower
In fantasy settings, helping the other put on/ take off armor...trusting the other to know where daggers, knives, poisons are hidden
Telling each other secrets/ thoughts they've told nobody before
Tucking back the other's hair
Putting a piece of jewelry on the other or letting them borrow clothes
Keeping each other warm in the cold
In cases with chronic illness, letting the other care for/ know symptoms
Brushing, braiding hair, applying skincare, etc.
Nightmare comfort
Wiping away tears
Proximity- sitting near each other, sticking close, standing beside each other while doing a task such as cooking, laundry, painting...
Sharing a book, sitting close enough to read it together
I would argue that the two most perfect critiques of Harry Potter come from a pair of 4chan posts, which take opposite approaches to their critique but reach equally damning conclusions
I found a guide for a no tape, easy to unwrap wrapping tutorial to make Christmas a little more accessible, wish I just found it sooner
Could i not have seen that before Christmas? Anyway, queueing this for next december to save a life.
This is how they wrap surgical sets before sterilizing them (in a cloth not paper...god I wosh the cloth is a pain in the ass) except when they tuck the last bit in, they fold it over so the end is poking out of the box (like a pull tab).
Tips for Writing Injuries
⧠Broken ribs suck. You donât just âwalk it off.â Breathing hurts. Laughing hurts. Existing hurts. Characters with rib injuries wonât be doing heroic sprints.
⧠Concussions arenât instant naps. Dazed vision, nausea, dizziness, maybe even personality changes, but theyâre not going to collapse neatly like in the movies.
⧠Blood loss is sneaky. Itâs not just about dramatic pools of blood. Itâs dizziness, confusion, and the body getting cold as circulation tanks.
⧠Adrenaline lies. Someone can take a serious injury and not feel it until the fightâs over. That âI didnât realize I was bleeding until laterâ trope? Very real.
⧠Twisted ankles are brutal. One bad step and suddenly running is off the table. Even walking hurts like hell. Perfect way to ground a chase scene.
⧠Burns linger. Even small burns hurt more than most people expect. Blisters, infection risk, constant pain, itâs not just a cool scar later.
⧠Dislocated shoulders = useless arm. Characters canât keep swinging a sword or firing a gun. Theyâre basically fighting one-armed until itâs fixed.
⧠Shock is a thing. Pale skin, trembling, rapid heartbeat, and eventually disorientation. A character might not even realize how bad their wound is.
⧠Stitches arenât magic. Getting sewn up is painful and recovery takes time. Theyâre not instantly battle-ready after a needle and thread.
⧠Scars tell stories. Some fade, some donât. Some stay sensitive forever. Donât forget the aftermath when the wound becomes part of the character.

Quick tips for writing kisses
â° the pause. THE PAUSE. like âare we doing this? oh god weâre doing this.â
â° looking at each otherâs mouths like itâs a life-or-death decision
â° someone whispering âcan I?â or âjust onceâ before going for it and RUINING ME EMOTIONALLY
â° hands. gripping shirts. cupping faces. hovering like âdo I touch?? I WANNA TOUCHâ
â° breath hitching?? yes. shakiness?? absolutely.
â° that stupid moment where one of them pulls back a few inches like âwait are you sureâ and the other just goes for it again
â° kissing like theyâre scared itâll be the last time
â° kissing like theyâve been waiting ten goddamn years
â° teeth clashing awkwardly and both laughing about it but STILL FEELING IT
Ⱐone of them freezing for a second mid-kiss because the feelings just hit
â° the post-kiss moment of âuh. so. yeah.â where neither knows what the hell just happened
â° OR the post-kiss forehead touch. destroy me.
Ways I Show a Character is Emotionally Burned Out (Before They Even Realize It Themselves)
I love writing characters who think theyâre fine but are actually walking emotional house fires with bad coping mechanisms.
They stop doing the things they used to love and donât even notice. Their guitar gathers dust. Their favorite podcast becomes background noise. Their hobbies feel like homework now.
They pick the path of least resistance every time, even when it hurts them. No, they donât want to go to that thing. No, they donât want to talk to that person. But whateverâs easier. Thatâs the motto now.
Theyâre tired but canât sleep. Or they sleep but wake up more tired. Classic burnout move: lying in bed with their brain racing like a toddler on espresso.
They give other people emotional advice they refuse to take themselves. âYou have to set boundaries!â they sayâwhile ignoring 8 texts from someone they shouldâve cut off three emotional breakdowns ago.
They cry at something stupidly small. Like spilling soup. Or a dog in a commercial. Or losing their pen. The soup is never just soup.
They say âIâm just tiredâ like itâs a personality trait now. And not likeâŚÂ emotionally drained to the bone but afraid to admit it out loud.
They ghost people they love, not out of malice, but because even replying feels like too much. Social battery? Absolutely obliterated. Texting back feels like filing taxes.
They stop reacting to big things. Catastrophes get a blank stare. Disasters feel like âjust another Tuesday.â The well of feeling is running dry.
They avoid being alone with their own thoughts. Constant noise. TV always on. Music blasting. Because silence = reckoning, and reckoning is terrifying.
They start hoping something will force them to stop. An accident. A missed deadline. Someone else finally telling them, âYou need a break.â Because asking for help? Unthinkable.
Showing 'Excitement' in Writing
Eyes sparkling with anticipation.
Bouncing on the balls of their feet.
Clapping hands together in delight.
Speaking in a high-pitched, rapid tone.
Grinning from ear to ear.
Jumping up and down with joy.
Hugging others spontaneously.
Cheeks flushed with enthusiasm.
Widening eyes and raised eyebrows.
Waving hands animatedly while talking.
Giggling or laughing uncontrollably.
Unable to sit still, shifting in their seat.
Heart racing with exhilaration.
Feet tapping or legs jiggling.
Practically vibrating with energy.
Exclaiming, "I can't believe it!" repeatedly.
Reaching out to touch or grab someoneâs hand.
Dancing or spinning around.
Clutching their chest as if to contain the excitement.
Practicing or rehearsing what theyâll say or do.
Electricity situation got better so now I need to practice self restraint to not read all the "don't exaggerate, it's just a war in Ukraine, not a genocide" comments
More than 20000 Ukrainian children were stolen, their names changed into russian ones, mentions of them being Ukrainians erased, even age changed to make it harder to track them down. Then they're adopted by russian families and raised as russians. This is genocide. They are doing everything they can to erase Ukrainian identity.

ive found that partially treated mental illness can sometimes look to uninvolved onlookers like faked mental illness.
"someone who really has pOCD would be disgusted and horrified at their intrusive thoughts" or maybe i'm in therapy & am going by the books, being radically ambivalent to my intrusive thoughts instead of wasting energy mentally washing my paws of sin. i'm not going to perform my rock bottom for you for the sake of being believed.
"I won't perform my rock bottom for you for the sake of being believed" is going straight into my permanent storage holy shit

Attract Those Readers: When to Post on Ao3
Miraculous Fanworks Guide: When to post and when not to post on Ao3
Do you struggle to attract readers to your Ao3 fanfictions? Looking to boost your numbers on a fic?
Then youâve come to the right place!
When to post to get those eyeballs on your piece:
Using a script they coded themselves, Olcalhoun conducted a year-long study of Ao3â˛s posting times tracking four things:
How many users were online.
How many new stories were posted in the last 10 minutes.
How many stories were added to the feature box in the last 10 minutes.
How many stories were in both the ânewâ and 'featuredâ boxes.
Olcalhoun collected over 50,000 data points, and found that the best times to post on Ao3 were Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday, from 12pm to 5pm PST.
Itâs science!
When not to post:
However, if thereâs a good time to post, when is the worst time to post? The answer, provided in this post by jenroses, is anytime between 5pm and 10pm PST. The worst day to post overall is Friday.
But why?
Turns out thereâs a bug in Ao3â˛s system. If you post during that time, your story will have a manually-set publication date.
What this means is if you post between 5pm and 10pm PST, your story will not appear on the top of the new stories in the tag.Â
Your story will appear âearlierâ than those storiesâlower on the front page than stories posted hours before.
So now you know:Â
do post on Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday from 12pm to 5pm PST
do not post on Friday, or from 5pm to 10pm anydayÂ
Happy writing!
-Cass

The Welsh Viking is pretty cool!Â
Heâs going to run 5 kilometres in his viking armour on May 9th to raise money for Stonewall!
Oh my goodness this is getting a lot of notes! Since I see posts on tumblr about how a lot of people seem to think all historians and archaeologists are crusty old bigots Iâd just like to add that this guy is an archaeologist. A very vocally anti-racist archaeologist who goes out of his way to be as inclusive as possible to queer people.
Reblogging to watch later!
Always get your historical facts from anti-racist archeologists.
Wait, howâd the run go!?
Oh gosh I forgot to update on that! It went well, he was sore and tired but no injuries, and he raised over 1700 pounds!Â
Not to completely derail this post, but Iâd also like to recommend Miniminuteman to anyone interested in history and archeology from a non bigoted source. Heâs absolutely fantastic, his tiktok is essentially him just debunking bs conspiracy videos and he recently started making a youtube series called Awful Archaeology and there are only three episodes so far but they own my entire heart, itâs great.
Also Bernadette Banner, who is a edwardian/victorian fashion historian who does everything from reconstruction work, educational videos and debunking historical fashion myths, to more fun stuff like rating historical drama costumes or recreating Wheel of Time outfits.
And these are just the two Iâm most familiar with right now, there are SO many great historians and archeologists and anthropologists out there who have a passion for their field and want to share that knowledge while ALSO being great, humble people who stand up against bigotry, racism, and all the historical lies that come with. Iâm falling deeper and deeper into the rabbit hole of historical content every week, and Iâm loving every minute of it.
This post got me to watch Jimmyâs channel, and I ADORE it AND him, and Iâm very thankful.Â
I also want to recommend Tasting History with Max Miller, who is a food historian and excellent at pointing out when things in the past were racist or classist. He even had a recent Da Vinci video talking about checking sources and the importance of acknowledging when you get information wrong.
Also the Townsends, are reenactors that talk about food and culture and lifestyle of the 16-1700s of the colonial USA. They make a point of bringing in women and people of color regularly to talk about what those days were like for more than just white guys!
Someone in the notes might have added her but also check out NotYourMommasHistory aka Cheyney McKnight. Sheâs a Black reenactor who has made a few videos on what a day was like in the lives of enslaved people or free black people, as well as historical racism in general. She also has a website where you can book her for a lecture!
