i wish i was pennsylvanian. i would go to abbott school and eat cheesesteak and cheer for the steelers. i would go to pabbys pub and drink with mac and charle and dennis and dee. i would work at the pitt and do surgeries with dr robby and steal opiods and be misogynist with langdon. i just wish i was pennsylvanian so bad

there's like a thousand posts about it on this site but it bears reiterating that the reason a lot of Americans will specify which state they come from rather than simply saying that they are from the US is simple. it's because, despite the relative physical proximity, someone from Massachusetts and someone from New York are basically two wholly different breeds of person. and neither is human.

One of my absolute favorite things about Porco Rosso is how strongly it evokes the feeling of the end of an era. There’s the subtle, Porco getting offered military grade weapons by his arms dealer, there’s the blatant, Porco constantly being pestered about enlisting, and there’s Porco himself. He feels so distinctly old-world, a stalwart who would rather die in a final blaze of freedom for a dying age than adapt to serve ideals he despises. It really assists the movie’s existence as a time-piece too, capturing the strange feelings of uneasy finality that the inter/war period evoked in Europe. There’s this sense that everything is just about to be change, and everyone is trying their best to live out their final days in a simpler world. “So long to freedom in the Adriatic and days of wild abandon….”

i know a lot of people think this after watching ghibli movies but it's so sad how it's widely consumed as mere pretty japanese aesthetics while the main point (a lot of the times it being about environmentalism and the preservation of traditional customs) just goes flying over people's heads and they just order capitalist ghibli figurines to own. and i know it's double edged because that's part of the way animations studios survive but regardless u can't help but feel defeated to see the message largely being ignored and treated as lofi beat japanese aesthetics
