it's very frustrating seeing otherwise well-structured posts about media literacy and critical thinking bookended with statements about "nowadays", "nobody has literacy anymore", "this generation is so anti-intellectual", and the like, unquestioningly falling into better past fallacies.

You are handed an envelope. Within it is information about a not-especially-close friend. They would strongly prefer you not to know this information and would be quite upset if they learned you had opened it, though they won't know unless you tell them. The information is not in any way related to you or people you know personally other than this friend, and it does not contain information about them doing anything illegal. If it reveals information about them acting immorally, it is something noticeably not as bad as the worst thing you have ever done. The information will not benefit you personally in any way (it's not their bank account password, etc).
