idk i would personally rather give up access to certain products seasonally or locally than have people enslaved to give me the ability to have any product any place any time. i think i can go without tomatoes in january.
Every night at Camp Malaprop we would stay up late sitting around the campfire telling spooky goat stories
I was really scared by the one where the calls were coming from inside the horse
I like the one about the man with a hawk for a hand
I still can't sleep because I'm too freaked out about Bloody Manny.
It's the one about the babysitter and the clone in the corner that gets me.
I'm too easily scared, I still freak out when someone flashes their high beans at me while driving.
Possibly my spiciest take is that it's actually good to have people you respect and like that have some dogshit takes.
I think part of what is making young people lonelier, in discussing why they're increasingly isolated, is that they're so afraid of meeting someone who doesn't hold their same beliefs, and instead of being just core beliefs it is kinda ancillary shit.
It's actually okay to disagree even on social topics! Even on some political ones! But I mean, online you can start with "i love this mutual but they have a really bad/uninformed opinion about x media"
I know this is IMMEDIATELY going to be taken in bad faith, and yes babygirl, you are so right, I DO want you to go make best friends with both the KKK grand wizard AND your nearest nazi leader.
But seriously, as someone who has spent two decades doing community organization: finding ways to connect with different people is so so so important. There are people i follow here who ate 80% smart and their brain falls out of their head 20% of the time and that is GOOD FOR MY MENTAL ECOSYSTEM AND GOOD FOR LEARNING HOW TO BE A PERSON
LET'S ALL GO PISS ON THE POOR
Itâs also good to assume you probably are the friend whose brain falls out 20% of the time.
We all have blind spots, assumptions, and dogshit take from time to time. They canât all be winners.

Hegseth says he is authorising hormone screening to ensure US troops "operate at your absolute best".
You cannot make this shit up
TESTOSTERONE MANLY grunts the man who won't wash his hands.
They Live (1988)
The other day my wife told me about this influencer who said she needed to go on ozempic so she could go from 130 lbs down to 115 and I really cannot stress the degree to which we have so COMPLETELY lost the plot with this glp1 shit. Like not only are people are going on this shit for purely cosmetic purposes, the cosmetic purposes are delusional. This is the kind of mindset that gives people eating disorders but now because you can get a prescription instead of having to starve yourself or enduce vomiting a big swath of the general public seems eager to go along with it. Body Positivity did not go fucking far enough because I am being so real when I say that fatphobia is more of a public health crisis than obesity has ever been
People making a choice feminism argument for Ariana Grande looking skeletal have me feeling like this
the USA has always known it is the chief producer of war criminals, so it has always railed against the ICC, which is why the Hague invasion act exists:
It's just that now that nothing matters anymore, and the fascists/zionists in charge have realized that international law and your liberal credentials and even international standing as a country are completely fake and worthless, they are openly saying they are dismantling the institutions of international law. because they know they are war criminals.
A shockingly inefficient trillion-dollar project
The problem with generative AI, in the industryâs own jargon, is that it does not scale. The cost of growing from, say, a thousand users to a million is a key factor that venture capitalists examine when they evaluate start-ups. They want to see that the cost of adding each new user decreases over time, so that the company can support millions of users and make increasing profits. This is achieved partly through the careful engineering of computer systems that can efficiently handle more users who want to post photos, hail Ubers, or stream music.
With generative AI, the work of building efficient, scalable systems has not been done. And the problem is exacerbated by the ever-larger generative-AI models, which have grown from 175 billion parameters in 2020 to more than 1 trillion today, according to independent estimates (the actual sizes of the models powering products such as Claude and ChatGPT are secret). The large in large language model should not be a selling point. But the industryâs observation that bigger models tend to outperform smaller ones has given rise to a totemic belief in âscaling lawsâ that suggest any problem can be solved by simply making models bigger. âMaybe with 10 gigawatts of compute, AI can figure out how to cure cancer,â OpenAI CEO Sam Altman wrote on his blog in September.
Unpaywalled here.
People who unironically use âcomputeâ as a noun make me nauseous.
Altman, btw, is the same jackass who said he doesnât know how to monetize AI effectively, so weâll just keep building bigger and bigger systems so that one day we can ask it how!

This yearâs Solarpunk Cambodia project aims to ârethink resilienceâ
Cambodian artists, engineers and other creative practitioners are being invited to work across disciplines to imagine greener and more equitable futures, as Solarpunk Cambodia launches its 2026 initiative, ahead of Septemberâs Clean Energy Week. Returning for its second year, Solarpunk Cambodia is expanding its art programme with collaborative art-making sessions, an artist residency and a regional exhibition, with a stronger focus on pairing people with different creative and technical skills to produce new work. At the centre of this yearâs programme is a question organisers say has become increasingly urgent in uncertain times: How can society reset and reframe what resilience means?

yo mama so crummy shes pail of water
yo mama so pokemon creatures you could be fetching her
one time I went over to a friend's house and their housemate was making paper in the living room, and we saw this big tub full of water they were using to dissolve old scrap paper into a slurry, and everyone was immediately like "oh, you need scrap paper?" and started turning out their jacket pockets and producing expired coupons and bus tickets and crumpled receipts and old shopping lists and whatever else they'd been carrying round with them for no good reason, and passing it all to the paper-making housemate to make sure it was suitable before it got torn up and dropped into the tub, while people took turns stirring the slurry with a big wooden stick. it was strangely ritualistic, like presenting an offering to some kind of temple elder for inspection before placing it in a watery shrine to be devoured and reformed. pulp for the pulp god.

the fertility collapse is because people think you only become an adult at 30. the loneliness crisis is because governments have adopted the policy position that it's a problem when people have friends. and because everyone who matters moves all the time (like how nobles had to spend half the year in versailles to stop them from building regional power bases that would be inconvenient for the king) and diversity erodes social trust (like how whole foods is aware of which properties to optimize for in its workforce to minimize the risk of unionization). why else would governments take it as a problem when people have friends? well, a friend is someone you can break the law with
