i don't take ethical issue with individual instances of digital piracy, but it is like kind of obviously freeloader behavior so i find it a bit baffling when people act like it gives them like. a moral high ground

it depends on the product. pirating indie games is bad unless you're really poor, because indie game authors are poor. pirating DAWs is morally neutral – nobody in the world has ever paid for a DAW, and Big Ableton knows this and designs their business model accordingly. and it's wrong in all cases to pirate hollywood products, but not as wrong as paying for them
