I can compose, I can draw, I can write poems and stories and I can do anything I put my mind too

Some notes:

1) Posting will occur between August 7th and August 9th!

2) If you want your piece to be queued earlier than that, send it to me via the ask box! I recommend that you keep your descriptions short and simple, that way we can focus on your hard work!

3) If you want your work to be front and center (instead of constricted to my asks, completely valid), you can always post it yourself and then just send it to me/tag me! If you still want your piece to queued, then I ask that you at least wait until the week of the event, and then send it so I can queue it.

4) if you want to write a story! That's fine! Same rules apply- ideally, put it under a readmore, or give us a link and a summary. You know, let the story entice us some lmao.

5) yes, any form of art counts (gifs, yarn items, dolls, whatever) as long as the character involved is 1) Black, Black-coded, or a Black edit and 2) it's respectfully done. That's all!

"The hat is customizable," he said, struggling with the velcro patch on the front. "If I need it, I have an ICE one too. I pick based off the business i walk into."

"Customizable is an important hat descriptor," I said. "what can I get you?"

"You wouldn't believe how offended people get these days," he said. "And I'm supposed to do something about it if you're offended? You chose to be offended!"

"We all have hundreds of thousands of decisions everyday," I said. I thickened my accent. "That's what my stepdad always said. But I can make one easier - we have a delicious Ethiopian roast available."

"Like if I told you you have a bull ring," he said, "because bulls have rings in their noses. Is that offensive?"

I laughed. "I've heard that before."

"It's a joke, but people get offended. Maybe you're offended."

I looked at him. I smiled. "You aren't trying to offend me though, right?"

Of course he was. I was being friendly and the friendlier I was, the faster he switched topics. He was saying anything inflammatory he could think of to see if I'd take the bait. After about 20 minutes of my redirecting and deescalating, he settled into a more normal interaction. He took up too much of my time showing me a product I'd feigned mild interest in to get him to stop talking about getting accused of inappropriate behavior at work. When we finally disengaged, he spent 10 minutes trying to catch my eye again. When he failed, he left.

There's this new breed of customer who insists on trying to incite political conversation through their clothing and, when that doesnt work, their snide little comments. If I owned my own business, maybe I would have given the guy the fight he wanted. But I work for a corporation and I love paying my bills so I deescalated.

SO, I do think the distinct art styles in the background of the animated scene is important.

Because a lot of that is clearly inspired by M.C. Escher's art. Is that not very interesting?

If Escher was not only a convenient alias briefly donned, but perhaps an actual segment (a person who notably is still alive, albeit with amnesia)? The mysterious 55 who had a voiceline in the erasure event but was never seen in the flashbacks, perhaps? Or 45, who conspicuously wasn't shown among the erased segments in the "funeral" talk scene?

The other art style seems to be Soviet constructivism. Not sure about the symbolism of that yet, aside from the general Snezhnaya vibes. I guess I have to go read up on art movements now. 😐

Either way, the choice to put those art styles in there is clearly very deliberate. If nothing else, I'm guessing this extraoirdinary genius wasn't just a canonical scientist, philosopher and musician, but an artist as well.

vs how my poor mutuals probably see me

Escher and the constructivism movement are pretty contemporary with each other, which would hint that the Snezhnaya we're about to see draws heavy inspiration from our real world's Russia and central Europe in the years 1920-1940. Heavily influenced by the World Wars and the Russian revolution and early Soviet era.

The founder of the constructivism movement, Wassily Kandinsky, is definitely another artist I suspect Hoyo used as inspiration for Dottore as we now know him post 6.6, viewing art as both science and an expression of higher truth. He also played the piano.

Interestingly, both Escher and Kandinsky had to flee the encroaching rise of nazism/facism. The latter's works were deemed "degenerate" and confiscated and destroyed by the nazis.

So yeah.

Very interesting to use these particular artists/art movements as another foundational inspiration for Dottore.
