Seattle Public Library is doing this awesome program called Books Unbanned that allows teens and young adults (ages 13-26) access to their collection of e-books and e-audiobooks from anywhere in the USA. All you need to do is fill out a simple form and you get their Books Unbanned card. Please share this information far and wide. I know they're not the only ones to have done this, but the more the merrier!
Can everyone who reads this PLEASE reblog it?!?!? Libraries literally saved my life as a child!
Being abused at home, bullied at school and lost in the world, the library and all the books I could escape to the most amazing worlds, kept me alive!
I would walk to the library, and spend all day, from 10 am to 9 pm reading there!! I got special awards for how many books I read, I wrote little blurbs on why i loved the books (probably why I love to BETA and do ARCs)
PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE Just hit the green arrows and the reblog!!!
As a 50 year old woman, the library offers me so much. Digital art pads to borrow, 3D printing, book clubs that are face to face (yeah, the introvert likes face to face because a moderator will stomp on anyone getting snarky)
New books in LARGE PRINT! I’m visually challenged and as much as I love my kindle, The feel of a real book in my hands will always be a beloved feeling!
Our library also has quarterly books sales of almost free books!! For 5$USD we get in a day early and can buy as many as we want. Anyone else has to wait and there is a limit for the first 2 days.
Also many, many libraries have inter library loan(it may be called something different). This means if they don’t have the item you want, they can get it for you. This may include photocopy/pdf of articles. This can also include along with books and DVDs, microfilm/fiche which is also a huge resource. Check around for libraries that are listed as depositories if you want to look at government documents.
Remember that many colleges and universities have open stacks for the public. You will likely have to pay a membership fee but you will get to stuff.
I love the library ☺
The library was one of my favorite places to go as a kid and I still live to go and just. Sit and read. Or do homework. The university I’m at has a massive 8-story one I love to just wonder around in~ Great places
Libraries are amazing places, we need to protect them to ensure their continued existence.
I used to wander about the fiction section in my local library, and choose books with the most interesting titles - I discovered two amazing authors that way
If you feel disconnected from your local community & want to find ways to get involved, seriously consider spending some time at the library. Go to some events! Organize a reading group!
We’ve all seen Matilda, right?

Well, you know, some bathroom graffiti offers insight.
Red marker handwriting on a bathroom wall. Text reads:
“Boss made a dollar Granddad made a dime But that was a poem From a simpler time.
Boss made a thousand Gave pa a cent But that penny paid the mortgage Or at least it paid the rent
Now Boss makes a million And gives us jack Smugly blames the workers For the labor that he lacks.”
And the words of the prophets are written on the subway walls and tenement halls.

“You never realize how much someone means to you, until you mean nothing to them.”
— William Chapaman (via quotemadness)
reminder to:
straighten your back
go pee goddAMN IT STOP HOLDING IT
go take your meds if you need to
drink some water
go get a snack if you havent eaten in a while
maybe wander around the house/stretch a little if you’ve been sat at the computer a while (artists especially: sTRETCH THOSE WRISTS)
reply to that text/message from earlier you’d forgotten about
maybe send a nice lil message to someone having a bad day?
I just would like to thank everyone who ever reblogs this so that it somehow ends up back on my dash because I usually need the reminder (especially the drinking water one)
Of all posts to see with a million notes, I’m glad it’s this one.
OC/canon and selfships are good y’all are just scared of having fun
“But it’s cringe” ok what if it is? What’re you gonna do about it? Call the cops? Are you some kind of cringe police? Huh? Suck my nuts. I have 30 bfs and gfs and I’m having fun while you sit in your sad little clown corner getting second-hand embarrassment from looking at people having a blast. Make a self-insert oc and maybe you’ll feel better

A friend of mine killed himself last week. I've not been able to talk about it really, other than with some close friends / family. I knew him only because he looked after my horse's feet. On paper I barely knew him but in practice whenever we met we *talked*. I knew things about him that I don't know about my closest friends. His stories were outrageous. His circle of friends was large. He was universally liked. Even the horses adored him.
I didn't know he was so depressed he would end it all, three months after being married. I had absolutely no idea how much he was struggling.
I don't know what to do with this. It's hit me so hard. I wish he had told me, told anyone. I'm so angry with him for not reaching out. And I understand. I'm familiar with depression and how it makes you isolate yourself. I know the absolute lies that your brain tells you. Nobody likes you. Nobody wants to hear your troubles. You are too much. Why can't you just get a grip. Right?
Wrong. So wrong. You are so important. You have no idea of the devastation your passing would cause. You don't understand the miriad of ways that you add to people's day. You hold a space in so many people's lives, and they won't tell you every day, but that doesn't mean it's not real.
Please. Talk to someone. Anyone. Talk to someone you trust, or talk to a friendly stranger. Tell them, please, how you feel. Tell one person, tell lots of people, whatever it takes. But please, please, please don't take yourself off to some pointless, lonely death. We love you. You deserve to be here.

JFC I got furloughed and contemplated driving my vehicle into a tree within the week. The only thing that kept me going was daily encouragement from a trusted friend. I've not been depressed like that for *years*.
