Seeing them on facing pages made my imagination go wild, so hereâs a little ficlet:
âPlenty of times Iâve seen you stuck in a book, love, but this has gotta be the first time itâs happened literally.â
âOh, very droll. How long have you been working on that one?â
âWhat dâyou mean?! Instant, that was. Because Iâm a comedy genius.â
âI shouldnât give up the day job, if I were you.â
âOi! I heard you laughing. Anyway, whatâs going on? Howâd we get in here?â
âI imagine it is due to some kind of enchantment, though I confess, my memory is rather hazy.â
âWell, we were a bit distracted, werenât we? Gonna need to work out how to break it before we get stuck in here for good, mind.â
âPerhaps. However, I cannot say that I object to the view.â
âEdwin Payne, are you flirting with me? At a time like this?â
âThis from the boy who decided it was a good idea to begin kissing me in an enchanted stationery shop?â
âCouldnât help it, could I? You were just stood there, looking all. You know. With your eyes. And your mouth. And yourââ
âYes, yes, thereâs no need to go on about it. I suspect that shelf we knocked into has something to do with our current predicament. We ought to have been more careful.â
âYeah, probably wasnât a good sign when all those books fell onto us. But you canât blame a bloke. Anyway. Maybe thereâs no rush.â
âWhat? What happened to âbefore we get stuck in here for goodâ?â
âWell, that was before I thought about where Iâm gonna end up when this book closes. Reckon thatâll be an even better view, if you catch my drift.â
âWhat?! Bet youâre thinking it too.â
âIâŚmay have been making some deductions on that score, yes.â
âHah! Knew there had to be something behind all that blushing and hiding in your notebook.â
âPresumably similar to the thing thatâs making you incapable of meeting my eye.â
âGot me there, love. There. That better?â
âMuch. You really are very handsome, you know.â
âFlatterer. Knew there was a reason Iâm so drawn to youââ
âI shanât dignify that with a response.â
ââbecause youâre pretty as a pictureââ
ââalways thought I was an open book as far as youâre concernedââ
ââCharles, honestly, you willâOh.â
âThatâs done it. Hello, love.âÂ
âHello, dearest. Welcome back.â
âBrills to be on the same page again, so to speak.â
âIndeed. Come here.âÂ
âThatâsâŚmmm, thatâs nice. Yeah. Still wondering about getting out of here?â
âEventually. But for now, letâs make the most of being in our favourite place.â
âOh yeah? Whereâs that, then?â
