i fucking hate skincare ads, especially acne ads. ālook hereās emily, she looked disgusting and didnāt leave the house but with the help of proactolodermistshit nows shes not cripplingly ashamed of herself!ā its such a terrible way of advertising products by making consumers feel like such shit that they feel obligated to spend hundreds of dollars trying to fix something that happens to everyone! because its just a natural human thing! profiting off of the insecurity caused by beauty standards that the makeup/skincare industry sets for people, especially women is so twisted and i.hate.capitalism.
depression meal: standing in the kitchen for 15 minutes debating if i have the energy to cook then leaving after eating raw bread
You know what? Iām sick of this *digs three blocks down and closes myself in with a dirt block*
ālet women get plastic surgery!ā is such a cold take like please think critically for once and stop trying to turn it into an empowerment movement for women. growing up arab, i have several cousins who were pressured into getting a nose job since itās so normalized in my culture and iām constantly shamed by my family members for not considering it. itās hurtful and awful especially now with facetune and snapchat filters making your nose look more narrowĀ
i didnāt realize this morning rant gathered some notes until now so iāll add on to this. plastic surgery companies capitalize on the insecurities of women of color and itās based on racist beauty standards it should never be glorified
people in activist movements are constantly getting these concepts confused.Ā āletās not jugde a person for doing thisā is not the same asĀ āthis is empoweringāĀ

beauty is part biological programming, part social construct. like flushed lips, wide hips, general athleticism, etc is biological, and eye makeup, being underweight, defined eyebrows, etc is mostly social. most women would say they dont wear makeup for men - thats fair. that removes your biological motivation. but all that remains is a social motivation. there is no innate Beauty, it is simply something human society constructed, like grammar or philosophy.
basically, if putting on makeup makes you happy, that doesnt mean youre doing it for yourself. it means you were raised in a society that has hammered in a positive reaction and a pursuance of conventional ābeautyā. dont worry, i do it to - im literally about to put on a face mask, im not saying everyone who pursues beauty is hypocritical and empty, because *everyone* pursues beauty. but i AM saying that this whole message of āi wear it for myselfā is frankly false, by merely living in society you CANNOT separate āmyselfā and āsocietyā - its impossible.
tldr id just like everyone to think more deeply before sweeping things under the carpet and not worrying about their own insecurities

This has been said a thousand times and articulated better than I could ever hope to, but Iām so tired of yts and nb pocs using aave. yāall abuse, misuse, and take credit for language created by black folks (esp black women and black gay men) and then toss it aside when itās no longer cool and trendy.
So many black ppl grow up feeling alienated from their own language, having parents, teachers, and peers that scold and make fun of them for sounding āuneducatedā and now the same people that teased us have taken claim of language that black people had to eliminate from our lexicon just to be taken seriously.
So no, nonblack El Be Gee Tees, you did not coin letās get this bread, wig, shade, or tea. It was uneducated blacks that you look down your nose at that did.
And honestly I just have to laugh when yāall complain about cishets misusing bottom and top or whatever. Because when we ask for not to do the same thing, yāall give us the same ole, āwell no one owns a languageā or āitās just slang anyway.ā Itās tired and pathetic.
Yāall are no better than your cishet counterparts.
White people and nonblack pocs can reblog just keep your thoughts to yourself
I seen several people in the tags say āx is aave? i wonāt use it anymoreā And like,
1. Thatās a lie. Even if you stop for couple weeks, youāll definitely start again when you see the next cool, new āinternet slangā (i.e. aave) that stan/gay twitter ācame up with.ā So saying you wonāt do it anymore is just an empty platitude to make you feel better about yourself.
2. That isnāt the point. Whatever, keep using letās get this bread or wig, like I said, yāall arenāt going to stop anyway. I want you to become conscious and hyperaware that youāre doing it. Every time one of those words/phrases crosses your lips I want you to think, āWhat would be the reaction if a black person said this? Would they treated the same way as me? Or would others (and myself) view them as lesser and uneducated? Why is that I donāt face scrutiny for using these words and they do?ā And think long and hard about the answers to those questions because you already know what they are.
Be aware of your privilege, yāall. And be better allies to black folk.

STOP HAVING WHITE VOICE ACTORS PLAYING NON-WHITE ROLES
stop depriving non-white actors opportunities to act and get recognized!
Voice actors often donāt know who theyāre reading for or what franchise theyāre in (thatās what the strike was recently about, so theyād know whether they were in a small first time game or the 4th installment of a major franchise, if they were replacing a beloved voice actor, etc.) so please donāt harass the actors, until recently they legally didnāt have the right to know who they were reading for and were usually not told until months or even years later.Ā
Definitely go after casting, directors, and studios executives. Those are the people making the decisions.Ā
Example of a VA not knowing (and getting screwed on top of it).
They still donāt have the right to know. They got fucking nothing out of that strike. They can know the code name (which might be a serial number or whatever) and if itās a sequel. Thatās it. Thatās the extent of the ātransparencyā they won from the strike.
As a perfect example of this controversy, if you havenāt looked up interviews surrounding Laura Bailey as Nadine Ross, itās worth it.
Laura Bailey herself explained that when she auditioned for the role, she was given no information about what the character looked like. It was only after she was hired and arrived for recording that she was shown concept art and discovered the character was a WOC. She was uncomfortable about the situation.
Meanwhile, Neil Druckmann revealed that they were already working on concept art of the character when they hired Laura Bailey. They finalized the characterās design as a WOC after theyād hired a white voice actress, so that was a conscious decision. He was also very flippant about the situation as a whole.
Like people above have said: Yes, whitewashed casting is a legitimate and real issue. But unlike actors in film and stage, voice actors are often totally blind to what theyāre auditioning for. They get fucked by NDAs and legal red tape bullshit. Go after the casting directors and execs and high-position game devs that knowingly make these decisions.Ā
Reblogging for that info
Call out the studios making these decisions, but leave the actors alone. Thereās nothing they can do about it short of breaching the contract and paying thousands in fines to the company that put them in that shitty position in the first place. Game companies are horrendously exploitative of performers and artists and need to be called out.
Headcanoning a character thatās written to be gay as bi or straight is homophobic. headcanoning a character thatās written to be bi as gay or straight is biphobic. Thatse it
Headcanoning a character thatās written to be straight as gay or bi is heterophobic and also an EXCELLENT thing to do
i doodled a zombie tenko
i now remember why i donāt spend more than 2 minutes in the same room as my parents
You either hate Nazis or youāre on their side itās easy as that you canāt be morally grey on this
You canāt even say something like āIām not into politicsā or even the #woke version āIām not educated enough on this matter to have a sideā or something because even children know Nazis Are, like, Bad
If you arent willing to Oppose them you have chosen to enable them. They will continue to act regardless of if youāre ānot into politicsā or if you hate Nazis but think they deserve to talk. If you are not in opposition to fascism, you are enabling it, even if you may hate it. It is not enough to not be a fascist, you must be anti-fascist.
