Mobei Jun adores his Qinghua. He would not say Shang Qinghua is the center of his world, not when he is the king of the Northern Desert and Shang Qinghua is busy as lord of An Ding, but he is the one that Mobei Jun will always choose, and the one that brings the most joy into his life. Long years working together as partners has only deepened that devotion. Watching Shang Qinghua lay out a plan to help improve the Northern Desert, or curled up in bed and watching all the stress drain off the human sends soft shivers of pleasure through him. Shang Qinghua chose him. Finally, he had Shang Qinghua as his forever.

The twenty year anniversary of their marriage was coming up. Mobei Jun knew exactly what he wanted to do for it. Something special, that they so rarely got to do. It wasn't the extravagant banquets that Junshang insisted on throwing every year for his empress. Shang Qinghua was still complaining about how difficult picking out a present for the last time they went down had been. Mobei Jun did not understand Junshang's fascination with Shen Qingqiu. Shang Qinghua was a far superior man in his mind. Shang Qinghua's connection with Shen Qingqiu made even less sense. He tolerated it though. Shen Qingqiu was one of the few humans Shang Qinghua actively reached out to.

When Mobei Jun had informed Shang Qinghua of his plans his queen had agreed with cheer. Satisfied that his plans would not disrupt what his Qinghua was working on and that he would get his full attention to celebrate just them, Mobei Jun set to work preparing. This was by no means going to be an easy plan to execute. He needed to talk carefully with the staff of the Ice Palace and ensure that when the time came everything was ready.

He woke up early that day to find Qinghua already escaping their bed. "What is Qinghua doing?" Mobei Jun asked.

"Sorry to wake you, my king," Shang Qinghua said quietly. "I just wanted to get an early start on orders for today."

Mobei Jun stared for a moment before realizing. Qinghua had forgotten. In all the bustle of their life Qinghua had forgotten what they had planned, and was going about his day as if it was just another ordinary one in their life, and not a special date.

An amused chuckle bubbled up from the ice demon. He sat up and grabbed Qinghua dragging him back into bed. Shang Qinghua immediately started squawking in protest. "My king! I have to go! I don't have time for this today!"

"Qinghua does have time," Mobei Jun rumbled. He bit at Qinghua's neck drawing a gasp from his queen before he kissed it. "My Qinghua has forgotten, but this king has not."

"Forgotten?" Shang Qinghua glanced back at him in bewilderment. "Forgotten what?"

"It is our anniversary," Mobei Jun said smugly.

Shang Qinghua paled. Mobei Jun could read the panic over forgetting the date crossing his face. Mobei Jun leaned in and kissed him until Shang Qinghua had nothing in his mind but how Mobei Jun's lips felt against his.

"Qinghua does not have to think," Mobei Jun rumbled. "This king has planned everything." He paused. "This Odbayar has planned everything. There is no work today, Qinghua. I have arranged for the Ice Palace to handle us being gone for the next three days."

"What?" Shang Qinghua blinked. "What-is that why my workload has been heavy for the past while?"

"Mm," Mobei Jun agreed. "Preparing for when we leave." He kissed Shang Qinghua again.

"My king, my king," Qinghua panted. "Odbayar. Holy s---, three days!"

"Three days," Mobei Jun agreed. He opened a portal and carried Shang Qinghua through to a hunting cabin. A nice isolated area that Shang Qinghua would have to put work into if he wanted to do any work. He couldn't make an excuse of something taking just a moment, or it being too urgent to put off.

Shang Qinghua wrapped tightly around Mobei Jun kissing him urgently. "This is so hot," he told him.

Mobei Jun rumbled. Yes, this was a special gift for both of them. Time to just be Odbayar and Qinghua. Time to just focus on each other. Later Shang Qinghua would panic again about having forgotten, but Mobei Jun didn't care. He knew how busy his Qinghua's mind was. Qinghua focusing on him right here and now was all the gift he needed.

"I can explain!" Shang Qinghua blurted out.

Yue Qingyuan looked at him with the same mild smile that he always wore, but there was a heavy sense of disappointment in it. If Shang Qinghua wasn't fully aware that he was selling the entire sect out to save his own skin he would be crushed under it. He was still squirming under this gaze, actually.

"What explanation could excuse colluding with demons?" Shen Qingqiu demanded. His eyes gleamed with triumph. Finally, the traitor was caught!

"This isn't betrayal! It's love!"

"What," Qi Qingqi asked.

"Yeah! I ran into Mobei Jun dying when I was a disciple, and saved him, and we fell in love," Shang Qinghua babbled. This was absolutely humiliating, but he was going to do his best to sell this and hope that his king didn't absolutely skewer him for these outrageous claims. Mobei Jun had to be aware that they couldn't fight all the peak lords and win. A little bit of wild lying had to be acceptable.

Mobei Jun dipped his head respectfully, ice blue eyes fixed on Shang Qinghua. "This king has been courting Shang Qinghua for a long time," he agreed.

"What," Qi Qingqi repeated.

"I'm not betraying the sect, I just didn't know how to explain it. Mobei Jun wouldn't hurt us," Shang Qinghua continued to explain in a rush. "He helps me get a lot of the supplies we use from the demon realm, actually. It's a huge benefit! Did I mention we're terribly in love?"

"You're in love," Mu Qingfang said in shock.

"This is a joke," Liu Qingge demanded.

"This king is honest in his pursuit of his Qinghua," Mobei Jun said firmly. "This king will make Qinghua his queen."

"Yeah, he's gonna-what?" Shang Qinghua whipped around to stare at Mobei Jun and gave off a nervous giggle. "What was that last part?"

Mobei Jun stared down at Shang Qinghua. "This king will only have a queen he trusts at his side."

Shang Qinghua gulped and nodded. Okay, this was more intense than he expected. Still, surely this would help them get away with this!

"And what do you have to prove that we should accept this alliance?" Yue Qingyuan asked. His gaze had softened. He was buying it, good!

Mobei Jun reached through the shadows and began to bring out a large bounty of treasures. "This king has many gifts for my Qinghua's sect."

Shang Qinghua gave off another nervous giggle. Okay, that was way more than he expected. He was going to have so much work to make up for this loss.

"He's still a demon," Liu Qingge growled.

"He should be thrown out," Shen Qingqiu agreed.

"This king will take his Qinghua if you throw him aside," Mobei Jun declared boldly. He scooped Shang Qinghua into his arms. He stepped back into the shadows and through to the Ice Palace.

Shang Qinghua shivered. Great, they got away! Shang Qinghua could never go back, but they got away alive!

Mobei Jun nuzzled Shang Qinghua. "My Qinghua," he rumbled.

Shang Qinghua laughed nervously. "You don't have to keep acting, my king."

"This king is not acting."

What?

Liu Qingge: It wasn't just an apology, he also has tried to be civil with me. That's why I am trying to be civil with him.

Shen Yuan: You really do just copy how people act towards you, don't you? I thought the phrase was 'Treat people the way you want to be treated' not the other way around.

Liu Qingge: I want to be treated with brute honesty, but turns out people don't like that. But everyone else understands it, so if they treat me the way they want to be treated, I know how to treat them, and I won't mess up as much. People have made talking to others unnecessarily complicated, but I have found a way to win at social interaction.

Shen Yuan: You would have loved an autism diagnosis.
