Man it's been so long since I watched/read Dungeon Meshi but I still think it is ridiculous how Shuro was written to show how due to culture differences miscommunications can build up create vastly different views of similar events/relationships and then proceeded to become one of the most, if not the most, hated characters because people didn't understand that his character relied on cultural differences. Also because it made them acknowledge that their favourite white man was capable of being racist but I think that feeds back into the original thought.

It is wild having a special interest in history/mythology/classics retellings but not much of a driving interest in the originals. Cause like, I'll buy a retelling book and be so excited and then realise that fuck I don't know anything about what it is retelling.

The longer I spend in online book spaces (I.e, booktok, booktube, etc), the more I realise that a lot of people just hate the idea of disabled people reading. You can't listen to audiobooks, you can't feel upset at font sizes, you can't find a way to read hands free, because people think that reading is one narrow experience and they don't like that disabled people are happier living outside that experience. They'll claim they don't hate disabled people of course, maybe even talk about the books they read with disabled characters, but it's obvious they prefer their disability as something you read about rather than an actual thing that real people have to deal with.

The greatest heartbreak I go through at least once a month as a reader with sensitive eyes is being really excited for a book, and then finding out it is the horrific mix of small text and packed pages. I just wanted to read Babel without my eyes hurting.

A lot of people's understanding of Rejection Sensitive Dysphoria goes no deeper than "I don't like to be told no" and no one talks about how even that simple level of refusal of learning is causing so much ablism.

I wish there was a way to marry your friends and have people see it as strictly platonic. As someone aromantic who sees himself more likely to spend his life with a friend than a romantic partner, if I find my ride or die bestie I would love to have a celebration for the love we hold for each other, one where people can see that we choose to live lives that are forever intertwined. It's such a shame that if you bring up the idea of marrying your best friend it will only ever be seen as something romantic or a tax benefits joke.

In Hakuoki, the idea of Chizuru making choices and forging her own path for what she wants in life rather than allowing her existence as a demon to define her feels like a prominent theme, which I feel flips her name on its head. A name that is based off a myth of having your wish granted versus Chizuru sticking close to reality and carving her own destiny despite how little agency she has in her story.

As an autistic person, I despise all these weird rules that society makes up with little to no reason for them with harsh punishments if I fail to meet them. Instead, I prefer all these weird rules that I made up with little to no reason for them, which I will be giving myself harsh punishments if I fail to meet them.

Learning I was agender was wild because it happened and then I tried to care about it and back away from calling myself a woman and she/her, but I am agender because I don't care about my gender so I eventually just decided it was too hard to change anything and just kept living as a woman but with the extra spice of knowing I don't give a shit if someone called me a man.
