hes so baby here i cant stand it
Action Comics (1938) #594
βοΈπ€ if i have to go through uni so does he
itβs so special to me that so much of fan culture is textual analysis for the love of the game. like thank god there are people in my phone who are also thinking about this thing i love so much that they are writing transformative fiction as character studies and setting clips of the show to music with theme-relevant lyrics and writing long text posts analyzing every line of dialogue like!! yay!!!
i keep seeing the βtalia twisted jasonβs mindβ take, so, reminder that talia saved jasonβs lifeβliterally, not just by restoring his mindβbecause if she hadnβt taken him from the streets when she did (~2 years after he died), the clench would have almost certainly killed him during the outbreak in gotham a couple of months later, and if not the clench, then the quake wouldβve 100% done him in.
jason was a severely brain damaged and dissociated teenager on the streets with no shelter, supervision, or support. heβd be dead if she hadnβt taken him!!! no talia did not manipulate him into hating bruce; no jason does not hate her. she did a good thing and gave that little boy a life to live. quit villainizing her for that just to prop up your favorite white boys!!!

Love love love Jason's "fight or flight" reaction here.... Of course his first reaction would be to snap and fight because NO ONE could stay calm after that, but at the end he just ran away.... he ran away because he had to, because he can't stay.... Bruce told him "I'm still standing, Jason," provoking he to hit him again, and he just looked at Bruce, the man that he is, the man that Jason want to see and then he just ran away... he just wanted to ran far away from that place.... driving the car as fast as he can while tears running down his face.... ran far far far away because he can't stay at the place where he died any longer or facing Bruce any longer.... everytime Bruce hurt him he hit back but eventually he just ran away.... *incoherent and painful screaming*
I've grown up with a parent who would make my own hardships and suffering about themself, so whenever I happen to end up in fics where the focus of Jason's death is on Bruce and Bruce's feelings about it instead of Jason and Jason's feelings I just find it ironic and distasteful.
Jason was murdered, but he's criticized for his anger after it. Jason was murdered, but his feelings are exaggerated. Jason was murdered, but his pain is disregarded. Jason was murdered, and somehow, his adoptive father is the one "most affected", his feelings more "important", his pain and anger more "justified".
It's a morbidly fascinating phenomenon, though, considering Tumblr and the internet at large is full of people traumatized by their parent(s), you would think it would be easier to find more interest/understanding towards the feelings and point of view of the character(s) subjected to abusive/neglectful/irresponsible parenting.
theyβre still stuck on whether or not god exists in the first place (x)
Thinking a lot about Bruce's fervent desire for Jason to settle down with a wife and kids the way he doesn't feel he never can and how that impacts Jason's queer coding. Like of all Bruce's kids Jason is the one he most wants to have that traditional domestic life. That's his dream for Jason. A thing Jason has literally never once showed interest in!! Yes Jason is fond of kids and prone to taking them in but the white picket fence life with a wife and biological children? Never something we really see him shoot for. Because its NOT what he wants. He doesn't want to bring kids into this life, he only takes in kids who are already involved. His one mainline civilian girlfriend had to pursue him and then they broke up because she got possessed by his ex a week later. Jason has no civilian identity and hasn't expressed a desire for one. Bruce literally lobotomized him so he could go live the life Bruce chose not to pursue and keeps making the choice to not pursue. Bruce thinks there is only one way for himself (and therefore also Jason) to be truly happy but he won't give up Batman because he perceives Batman as valuable and necessary but he barely sees Jason as a person so he has no qualms about enforcing his perception of what would make Jason happy (based on precisely zero evidence) to the degree of denying Jason personal choice and autonomy. The only version of Jason he loves totally and unconditionally is the made up trad husband version in his head that looks suspiciously like Bruce's own almost-happily ever after if HE hadn't sabotaged his relationship with Talia for the sake of Batman.
Not to keep reanimating the discourse but like. "Jason wouldn't have been in danger at all if he listened to Bruce" is such an insane take. It makes the mistake that majority of these takes seem to, which is ignoring Sheila. Sheila, who had a gun pointed at Jason as soon as he stepped through the warehouse door. Implying that it was on or very near her person the whole time. Sheila could have shot him at any time. He was at the mercy of a stranger and her kindness the minute Bruce, Jason's legal guardian and the World's Greatest Detective, left him alone with her. He was never safe. He was always at risk of harm or death.
It also ignores that *Jason didn't know Joker was in the warehouse*. Sheila specifically said that he left and told him to follow her. As far as Jason knows, The Joker could be ANYWHERE at this point. He has no reason to believe that he's inherently safer staying where he is. In fact, if the Joker were lurking around monitoring Sheila to make sure she's doing his bidding, discussing the situation out in the open would have been a bad idea!
Jasons fatal flaw was not recklessness or anger or some deep seeded evil - it was trust. He trusted his mom. His mom told him to follow her somewhere safe to discuss the situation and he did. Because he trusted his mom. Because Bruce left him alone with her. Like I'm sorry you can't even argue stranger danger because 1. It's His MOM and 2. It would still be more Bruce's fault than Jason's because whose the adult legally responsible for this child he is leaving unattended with a stranger??? If Jason is at fault for his death for trusting his mom, Bruce is EXTRA at fault.

Bruce Wayne's favourite children:
The nostaligia-fueled version of Robin Dick that exists in his head
Jason Todd's corpse
Cass
in a better world, the big batman poll that everybody knows about would have been over blue batman outfit vs black batman outfit and not killing off a major character
also neat to see how well-liked jason & nocturna's scene was as well as some seeds of the adoption later to come!

The idea that I'm gonna go start spending the big bucks on comic books because they took down readcomiconline is like assuming that revoking my driver's license would convince me to finally purchase a helicopter.
rose you are so dear to me
part 1
I'm not a Bruce Wayne hater because, well, I don't hate him; that being said, I do feel very, "I'm not mad, just disappointed," about his post-90s characterization
