Yeah that makes sense considering everything, and i feel like 2021 was a big year for a lot of people in the space. Neither was foolish, as he was living with his parents still.

true, and tbh i don’t even really care that they don’t optimize and stuff bc it doesn’t really seem like they want to get much bigger (apart from the natural boost that comes from events/servers). like they are both doing well financially and im sure they aren’t particularly interested in dealing some of the things their bigger friends do. i think they’d maybe want a couple thousand more viewers per stream consistently, but they obviously don’t want it enough to do much of anything about it so it’s whatever ig (unless they complain at any point, in which case i’ll be annoyed bc theyre too lazy to complain lmaoo)

eh overall I don't care, but part of me is annoyed because I don't think it would be that hard for them. They could easily hire people to do these things for them, it wouldn't even be that much effort (tho I think there is some value in them attempting to do it themselves at least for a bit but I digress)

No seriously lmaoo, i watched lud's class and the advice he gave made a lot of sense and was very realistic, but it is literally the opposite of tina and foolish in almost every way lool. And in the few ways one of them is doing something right (according to lud lol), the other one is doing the exact thing he said not to do.

yea I think it goes to show how lucky they are. Foolish in particular is not tapped in at all to twitch in general. In makes sense, since he streamed on yt before dsmp, but at no point has he made an effort to correct that. Like I can't see him getting big without that boost

There are fanfics I read as a teen that I still think about. Hell, there are fanfics through twt threads that I was more invested in than the og book the characters are from.

I get why people that know nothing about fanfictions and publishing would initially see fanfics as something less worthy than novels. Anyone can upload their fanfic, most of them aren't edited/proofread by another person before posting and the characters (+ often locations) aren't originals but someone else's work.

But then you actually start reading and consuming book content. There are so many horrible published books straight from someone's ass. There are so many novels that make you wonder if they accidentally printed the first draft. There are so many stories that are just fanfictions with changed names to avoid trouble. The only reason fanfictions get a worse reputation than books is because it's more available, both to read and to write, so there is a bigger quantity of trashy fics. But also a bigger quantity of wonderful stories you wish you could print out and bind into a book yourself.

Tho, unfortunately, reading is one of those hobbies that still has a lot of elitism, so I guess it comes as no surprise that many are blind to the amount of authors that got picked up and were able to traditionally publish their stories because they got known through their fanfictions 😮‍💨

(Side note, that's why I hate when ccs praise artworks, but then only acknowledge fanfictions when it's to point and laugh at them. Everyone should read more.)

Yeah, agreed, it's annoying to see a whole medium be degraded.

And I don't doubt it had to do with the fact that fanfic is seen as a "girl thing". Even traditionally published books written by women get the same treatment sometimes :/ And when men do engage in fanfic, there's this idea that it's different (not romance-focused, to explore the plot deeper, as part of a class, etc.)

(Side note, that's why I hate when ccs praise artworks, but then only acknowledge fanfictions when it's to point and laugh at them. Everyone should read more.)
