in most islamic practices, both men and women are expected or highly encouraged to shave/trim both pubic and armpit hair in 40 days since it's considered part of their cleanliness and consideration for their partners so this discourse seems highly dependent on context

I understand that particular shaving is dictated for both genders but do Islamic women shave their legs? And/or do men shave theirs? If the expectation is truly the same for both of them, then yea what I'm saying doesn't apply.

idk ultimately i dont have anything substantial to add to the debate bc where im from this is such a non-existent issue ppl just do it for different reasons that very well can be for purely for themselves, its not always all shaving = bad & conforming to the patriarchy. i have friends who get lasered every month, i have others who dont never even trims, and one or the other never gets shamed for their choice. And i dont even know the source material that u were debating on loll maybe im just here commenting on something that im not woke enough about….

ok but do the men who live in your country also shave for the same reason? If a large portion of them do, then sure I suppose it can be for yourself, but most of the times it's only women

I don't think shaving is bad, I'm not trying to moralize it, but I do think it's conforming to the patriarchy when it is something that only one gender ever "does for themselves"

tbf ocd is different for everyone but even if it causes sensory issues with shaving, that doesn't mean you are doing it in a way that is for yourself.

and if i said that the reason why they have sensory issues is bc they started shaving so now the hair has a blunt edge and they can feel it now

yupp this is exactly the case. But then they just make up some other excuse when the root of it is, if no one had ever put the idea to shave in their mind, they would never have done it to begin with (and start the cycle of sensory issues)

One time i was just going to squirt the shampoo directly on my head and i forgot how to function and i stared straight at the bottle and just sent that shit directly into my eyes
