Coyotes and raccoons learned to survive on our scraps, squirrels figured out how to turn our backyards into homes, cockroaches managed to survive in sewers and trash heaps that are so far from their actual natural habitats.

I’ll concede on the first point, although I do think it’s worth pointing out that it’s also noted in the first article that he has insisted queer people are welcome in the church, which is at the very least an improvement.

However, the second link you provided says clearly that that decision was made by the council of bishops, not the pope, so it’s a fair bit less compelling of a source on this specific topic.

The church has been teetering on the brink of another schism recently, if he were to openly go against the council that would almost certainly push things over the edge, and if that were to happen he would no longer have any influence over the conservative side of the church. Instead, by choosing not to alienate the conservatives, he has been able to work to turn them against things such as the American republican party. Directly through Leo’s actions a large number of conservative christians in America have turned against Donald Trump, and since Trump and his politics have become some deeply intertwined with the Republican party as a whole, against the party too.

Pope Leo has done and said bad things, but those actions allowed him to simultaneously accomplish far more than your blind anger ever will.

I am deeply skeptical the pope's milquetoast words have done more to sway conservatives against Trump than high gas prices, so you will simply have to forgive me for not thinking that makes up for allowing his church to ban trans healthcare in like a third of my countries hospitals.

I’m so tired of seeing people say this without really understanding the actual implication of what he’s done.

Take his decision not to change official doctrine on gay marriage. By choosing not to do this, he also chose not to alienate conservative catholics, unlike Francis before him. By not alienating them and then getting in to the conflict he had with Donald Trump, he’s managed to actually turn away a fair number of catholics from Trump, and since Trump has become so intrinsically tied with the republican party in the past few years, the entire republican party.

Does being the head of an organization that has made the world an infinitely more terrible place raise a lot of questions about someone’s moral character? Yes, but it is also important to remember that he is not the one who committed those atrocities.

If people really care about justice and fairness they would do better to judge him by his actions instead of those of his predecessors. He has worked to unify the catholic church instead of divide it further, and bring people together across party lines is something we desperately need more of in the modern political climate.

Wow it’s been a bit since I saw someone deliberately misinterpret something this aggressively. They literally never said that it wasn’t about trans women they said “it was never ONLY about trans women.” This person is trying to create solidarity between us and other groups by showing that we’re only the beginning of the bigots warpath and you’re too caught up in your self centered narratives to realize it.

Trans women are far outnumbered by transphobes and if we want any chance at changing the legal landscape to be more favorable to us who will stand by us and you’re hear telling people who are on our side to eat the curb or be jettisoned into outer space.

People like you are the reason our community is so isolated, which is exactly what gives the bigots free rein to do the horrible things they do to us.
