WHAT DO

Animorphs is not something I generally recommend based on its prose. (I remember an interview with KA Applegate where she said something to the effect of she was writing from the POV of teenagers and trying to sound like teenagers think they sound--which I think she succeeded at!) But this whole passage is beautiful and that part in particular slays me. There is something so weird and wonderful about this book that is a tangentially related spinoff, arguably the weirdest chapter in an already weird series, having this in it. 40 or 50 books deep in this middle grade series you have this moment of distilled beauty and truth. It feels like a secret treasure to me. Who even read this?? Who appreciated this properly? Cathedrals everywhere for those with eyes to see. Damn.
