i was working at a little cafe where I could deny service over bad behavior, harassment etc. & mask mandates had just ended a week before & already people were being weird about me still wearing mine—an N95, the kind shaped kinda like a duckbill.

so this man walked in, looked at me sooo scathingly, laughed at me, and said “damn. never known a woman to choose…practicality over looks.”

And I just said, “oh. you can go, you’re not getting a drink.” And he said, “what???”

I said, “sir, you just walked in at 6 am & called women impractical and me ugly in one sentence.”

There is a finite amount of memory on any given device.

No matter how good your game is, players will want memory for other things on their devices.

How many times did he analyze the encroaching dead zone before he realized he needed something else to do to fill the time with? Gathering books, rocks, odd looking things, and materials to carve and create and entertain himself with.

Did he run out of essence at any point because he refused to take breaks? Got stuck passed out by himself until it regenerated little by little?

Did he rely solely on detecting Huey's essence or would he occasionally check the window, wait outside by the door, wander around the woods hoping he would bump into him?

Did he meet people on occasion? Did any passing traveler that might listen to him try to change his mind? Perhaps Garu? Did Aster and Morvay ever check on him while they themselves looked for Huey? Did they bother telling him he didn't have to wait after all? What about Quincy? What about Kuya? Did they all assume since he was just an e-droid it would be ok in the end? That's just what he is like, that's just what he does.

Did he feel or think anything as the dead zone eroded everything around him? His essence behaved differently after he got out of the dead zone because of how used to it he was, but he probably just noted every difference to report to Huey whenever they did meet again, regardless of what change it had on him. Did he ever worry if the effects of the dead zone would stop him from completing his mission at some point? Feel relief when he managed to live there just fine after a while?

Did he ever think about what finishing that mission would be like? Daydream about it? What would happen once Huey came back? Did he have any desire for praise for following orders to the letter or was it something that would just be done and over? Was there more he wanted to tell Huey aside of dead zone observations? Everything he found and did over the span of 23 years? Did he want to know what Huey had been up to too? Did he wonder if they would start traveling together again? Did he hope for it?

Did he perhaps feel disheartened as the environment died around him with every passing year? As everything turned grey and animals left and died and monsters arrived? And as he developed further, acquiring likes and dislikes, learning about his own desires, did the temptation of leaving that place ever cross his mind? Either to just go look for Huey himself, or to look for anything that might make his life more worthwhile than staying any longer in a dying monotonous place? Did he ever have to shake those thoughts off and convince himself to continue following orders? Or did that other notion just come naturally to him, "I'll continue waiting for Huey again today".
