So. In a world where death is broken and pretty much anyone who dies has a decent chance of coming back in some form, a lot of different practices have evolved in order to handle this. Cremation, culling, ghoul burials, tossing the body somewhere far away and spinning it around 13 times so it can't find it's way back...so on and so forth. One such method is based on gratification: the belief that if the undead are simply given what they want, they'll be able to move on. Hungry ghost theory. And this is largely true! The benign dead are simple, often only seeming to crave the most basic pleasures of life: Warmth, food, and companionship. Of course it's never that clean cut or pristine, and the second-living often crave physical attention even more than the living, so attendants provide that too. Which doesn't always go over well with...well most people. In settlements this is practiced attendants are typically living somewhere fairly removed from the general populace and required to mark themselves in some way, so that other citizens may react to them appropriately when in the same space. This semi-seclusion and self identification can make them some of the first people to be made examples of in the event of a culture clash wherein the other party sees the practice as intolerable. On the the more fun side, these sects are often in charge of hosting festivals and bringing in everyone's long tall grandmas for tea and cakes and music, so it's a real mixed bag. And then there's the mummies. Mummies are sort of an odd case in this world; where most second-living lose a notable chunk of their complexities upon resurrection, a mummy's personality is often just as preserved as its body, and is therefore much harder to please than the average wraith. Hell, some even come back with a job, and will not be happy to be removed from that job. Yuli's friends here are likely temporary visitors- Bogs in particular was a public nuisance who is currently being housed while they work on them being less of a pest and drinking all the beer at the local inns. Mummies are very thirsty, as you might imagine.
