most of the metric system is great and all but honestly fuck celsius
lemme explain smthn: farenheit is human-centered.
in celsius, you have to use the dumb fucking scale of ā0 = ???, 40 = hot as shitā like damn thatās some exponential curve stuff
but with farenheit itās simple af. 0 is v cold. 100 is v hot. the end.
celsius makes sense for water, but am i water? no, im human.
stop being smug for using a shit temperature system.
everyone uses celsius but americans and it saves you from having to make shitty conversions for physics/chemistry equations. get over yourselves.Ā
To be quite honest, if youāre one of those āI donāt owe you an explanation, use googleā queers/sjw, I canāt help but wonder if you realize how fucking privileged you are.
How privileged do you have to be to be able to afford telling a potential ally (or at least less bigoted) to go fuck themselves when they ask you a question.
And thereās a H U G E difference between telling an obvious sealioner to crawl up their own ass and tearing down someone asking a genuine question.
Can they use google? Yes. But for whatever reason theyāve decided to ask you. Maybe its out of convenience, maybe they want your specific opinion/perspective, maybe theyāre just too lazy or donāt really care enough to do their own research.
Either way, you are being presented the opportunity to teach someone something important, and youāre throwing that away. Youāre telling them, and anyone who sees your comment, that you donāt actually care about changing anyoneās opinion on queer folk.
Whether you like it or not, aggression chases off allies. Because āopen mindedā people become 'non bigotedā people become shitty allies become kinda ok allies and so on and so forth. And frankly, Iād rather have a shitty ally whoās support is conditional who can maybe learn to be less shitty, than a douche bag thatās decided to continue being a douchebag forever because some trans person couldnāt be fucked to decline politely.
You donāt have to educate every single person that asks you a question. But donāt shut them down and tell them to use google.
A simple āIām not up for explaining it right now, maybe later/maybe someone else can explain itā will suffice.
āGo use google I donāt owe you shit šššā isnāt gonna get you anywhere and its such a shitty, privileged response.
If the other person isnāt be rude, its fucking childish to respond to them with that kind of attitude.
If youāre actively putting out posts about queerness and putting yourself in the public eye as a queer activist-
If you self identify. As a queer activist. And then refuse to offer education to cishets. Youāre not an activist, youāre just an angry minority.
That being said, I totally get it if sometimes people just really donāt want to be the worldās queer encyclopedia. It can be tiring. I get tired of it. Itās precisely why Iām not open about being trans on my main blog (well, that and I donāt really like how the Tumblr community at large treats transmen but thatās a whole other can of worms). It can feel very othering. So I guess the takeaway from my addition is: youāre not obligated to educate everyone around you, but still donāt be a dick about it. That just alienates you even more.Ā
hey! i saw ur comment on my gifset wondering if it was a joke caption by a fan. and yes yes it is! omg i didn't mean for it to be so confuse and i sincerely apologize. i was just bitter and wanted to prove that sterek fans know what's going on. we're not stupid. i hope that clears up any misunderstanding!
I thought that was the case!! I Iām sorry to have worried you! I donāt usually comment on reblogs outside of tags, but thank you for letting me know. I really liked the gifset and it didnāt seem to me like something Teen Wolf would actually touch, given their track record. @pornosophical itās all good
are we⦠really treating queerbait as a fun joke?
Sometimes you have to laugh at things cynically because the alternative is crying or getting pissed off and that takes way too much energy.
fandom, particularly queer fandom, laughing about this is one thing, but the Show doing it is another entirely
especially with their track record on queer issues and their queer characters
I thought it was a joke caption by a fan? (I haven't watched the trailer because I dropped tw like it was hot after 3b and I've been doing other shit today) Is that the actual dialogue?

DANICA ROEM SERVIN UP A SLICE OF KARMA FOR THAT ASS GO BABY
I hate that we live in a world where my first thought upon seeing this was, "please, god, don't let anyone hurt this woman."
My favorite thing from the internet today.
this gem needs to be documented too
gotta say, i really hate jokes like the ones that were made by the commentators here, because theĀ āpunchlineā hinges on the expectation of violence. i aināt saying theyāre terrible people for making these jokes, but i definitely think that these types of jokes are in poor taste

wtf are bathroom passes
In American schools, if students move from one classroom to another during the day, which is the norm in middle and high schools (roughly age 11 to completion of school), the whole school does so at the same set times during the day. Ā Being in the hallways at these times is Passing Classes, which is fine; being in the hallways at any other time is Roaming the Halls. Ā A student who is Roaming the Halls is presumed to be Up To Something, and may be stopped and interrogated by any member of staff who witnesses said Roaming.
Of course, it does occasionally happen that a student has a legitimate reason to be in the hallways outside of designated passing times. Ā In those situations, the student carries a pass (āhall passā) which can be presented to any member of staff who stops and interrogates said student. Ā Usually, the pass is written on a form that is signed by the teacher who authorized the studentās presence in the halls: Ā at my school, the form had spaces for studentās name, date, time, where the student is going, and from whence the student is leaving. Ā
Filling out the entire form every time a student wants to go to the toilet is a pain in the ass, so some teachers use some other form of pass. Ā In my day, it was either just a regular pass that was pre-filled and laminated, or a block of wood with the classroom number andĀ āBathroomā written on it. Ā Apparently nowadays, using some cumbersome and humorous object as the bathroom pass is A Thing. Ā
This is all regarded as completely normal, so much so that I have explained it in what may be a tedious amount of detail, because Iām unsure what part of it strikes you as unusual. Ā How is this situation handled where you went to school?
By raising your hand, saying you need to use the bathroom, teacher saying okay and you going. Nothing else.
So if another teacher sees you on your way there, they justā¦mind their own business? Ā
That would never work here. Ā
Would it never work there because of actual logistical issues, or do you mean people would not accept it as a safe solution?
Over here if a teacher sees you (theyāre all in class anyway too so itās unlikely anyone would be in the hallway during class unless they have a reason) they mind their own business, unless youāre dicking around or actually doing something troublesome or loud, or if they know you and know youāre supposed to be somewhere else, and youāre clearly not going to the bathroom. Or if theyāre in a shitty mood and wanna yell at you for sitting on the windowsill which was forbidden in my school but nobody cared anyway.
Otherwise, no, no oneās gonna care. Not in high school, anyway- but in lower grades yeah because the kids are younger, but elementary schools will usually have a custodian walking around the halls. Theyāre still not gonna question kids going to the loo.
Would it never work there because of actual logistical issues, or do you mean people would not accept it as a safe solution?
Short answer is, the second one. Ā Long answer is, the American school system is permeated with a sense that teenagers are this chaotic force that must be contained at all costs. Ā (Iām right now having this very clear sense-memory of a hall monitor * sayingĀ āYou canāt just roam the halls any time you feel like it!ā**Ā in the same sort of tone in which one might say,Ā āYou canāt just stab peopleĀ any time you feel like it!ā) Ā Itās not even so much a matter of what you might do while out in the halls unsupervised; the very idea of teenagers Roaming the Halls (of a school, which is full of both teenagers and halls) is understood as being inherently contradictory to the purpose of a school. Ā It isnāt even that you might go somewhere youāre not supposed to be; itās that at any given time, there is only one place any given student is supposed to be. Ā A hall pass creates a temporary change in your prescribed location, without undercutting the fundamental principle that your location should always be prescribed. Ā
(*My school had professional hall monitorsāgrown adults who were paid a salary to keep order in the halls.)
(**At one point one teacher issued me a Permanent Hall Pass, for Reasons, essentially licensing me to roam the halls whenever I felt like it. Ā I forget how long that lasted, but eventually a hall monitor stopped me with it and was, naturally, convinced it was fake. Ā They hauled me to the office and were like,Ā āWeāre going to call down TeacherName and show her this,ā and I was like,Ā āPlease do.ā Ā So finally they did, and she was like yes, thatās my signature, yes, I wrote that; what are we doing here?ā Ā I ended up getting detention anyway,Ā ābecause the policy is that if a hall monitor brings you to the office, you get detention.ā Ā The teacher was also instructed to never issue an open-ended hall pass again.)
Todayās question: is the USA actually a giant prison?
??????????????????????????????????????????????
WHAT THE HELL????????? What if you have no class in the middle of the day? Weād just hang out in the halls. Not everybody went to the library or sth. I probably spent a year of my life in the halls. It was actually kind of a way to socialise with people.
Yeah, thereās even a stock phrase as Gaeilige which is about the first thing you learn in school (my dad taught it to me before I started Big School, i.e. age of five) asking for permission to go to the bathroom.
If a teacher sees a kid hanging around the corridors instead of being in class, they may ask them what theyāre doing and wait to see if they head off to where they say theyāre going (the usual dodge isĀ āMiss/Sir, I have to get my books out of my lockerā) but thereās no Hall Pass or any of the rest of this.
Dear America, why is your education system so strange? Ā
Well for one, thereās never supposed to be a period where kids arenātĀ in class. Thereās no study hall period, no free period, and youāre carefully monitored when you go to and from class as well as to and from lunch period. The idea is that, if kids are free-roaming, theyāre going To Do Something like leave school (truancy) or cause some sort of problem.Ā
But really, its more about training children for future jobs where their employers will treat them exactly the same way. If you are not in class/working, then you are doing something wrong.Ā
Youāve also got to understand that, in American schools, not only is there a serious lack of trust between teachers and students, but also that the school systems will try to cram AS MUCH CLASSES into one day at a time to āmaximize learning.ā This includes having extremely short lunch breaks and hall passing times (I swear lunch breaks in my elementary school were like ten minutes long, which contributed to how fast I wolf down my food to this day. I also distinctly remember passing time being only three minutes at my middle school and having a panic attack on the third day of school because i couldnāt get my locker open and I was that afraid of being caught skipping class). Oh, and by the way, we watched a documentary in high school that took place in a prison once, and I was shocked at how much the prison in question actually DID look like a high school.
Okay, kinda hate to jump in here, but the school staff arenāt completely bonkers, up their ass in rules. The reason it is so important they know where you are at all times is because during school hours the faculty are liable for your well-being. If you leave school grounds without permission or wander without supervision and you get hurt, the faculty are considered at fault. They remedy this by placing people under constant supervision. Iām not arguing for this as a *good* solution, nor am I denying the prison-like qualities of schools. But I feel it was important to explain the other side
Yeah but thatās the same here. The school is liable. But we didnāt have the need for halpasses. You asked the teach if you could go to the bathroom. They said yes and you went. Walking in the halls during classes was something else alltogether. It was silent because everyone was in class.
You had a free period? You were either lounging outside (smoking) and crapping on your friends. Or you walked to the local fast-food joint to annoy the people there. You were simply not allowed in the halls near classrooms if you were loud. If you were silent or quiet thereās no one to tell you to go away. But the main halls, Stairwells, canteen, and other halls were fair game.
A hallmonitor? Really? People whoās sole Job is to ask you not to roam the halls or run?
This is so foreign. If our teachers happened to see you run theyād tell you not to. Simple.
As for leaving school grounds. We were actually allowed to leave school grounds during a free period or lunch. If you were absent or late youād be reported and your parents would get a call.
The US is by my knowledge the only country who does the hallpass and monitor thing.
In elementary school we werenāt allowed to go to the bathroom alone because it was too dangerous - our school found a strange dude there more than once who turned out to be a known pedophile. So we had to go in pairs. And with permission. And you were NOT to leave the grounds during the day. (By grade 8, 13 yrs old, I figured out how to jump the lowest fence and weād sneak away to walk to Dairy Queen at lunch. But once a couple people got caught and suspended.)
In high school the rules are a bit more lax but still, very restrictive. Itās why so many kids in Canada fucking hate school.
And yeah, we didnāt have a āhall monitorā but any adult could stop you and basically interrogate you about where you were supposed to be, why you werenāt there, and āescortā you to the office if they didnāt think your answers satisfactory.
in some ways it comes down to the US (and apparently Canada) never really got over thatĀ āchildren arenāt people, theyāre propertyā thing in a way that most of Europe did.Ā
The fuck like the only time i was asked what i was doing in the hall was the one time i had classes late, so i was going to the bathroom and a friend who did had classes had to go to the bathroom to class and the teacher only asked what we were doing because we were too many. My friend explained the situation, and then she left us so we could support my other friend who had been triggered by someone.
Also every two hours we had ten minutes breaks and we didnāt had a lunch period because classes ended before lunch
In middle school our hall pass was a mini toilet plunger the teacher stuck to the wall when not in use
Passing between classes was usually 3 min, and I want to sa lunch was 20
We did have a study hall/free period where we had to sit in the cafeteria, couldnāt huddle together (had to sit at least a foot apart), and couldnāt talk
Canadian here, and none of my schools were like that. In elementary and middle school, teachers might question you if they see you in the hall during class, but in high school, they really didnāt give a shit unless you were being disruptive. Hell, I had a communications class in which our teacher just let us roam the halls and even go outside to film shit, and I remember that my favourite teacher had a prep period at the same time so sometimes I would literally just go talk to him about life. I do remember that we couldnāt leave school grounds until either 7th or 8th grade though, and then we needed parental permission with the staff.Ā

Barbie in the newest movie looks like if Elsa from Frozen was in Mass Effect
Donāt ask me why I know this.
i thought this was a constable frozen edit
Apparently the plot for this movie is that all the stars are dying and barbie needs to find a way to stop the universe succumbing to a cold dark end which is honestly more terrifying than a lot of actual scifi
Barbie and the heat death of the universe
So this is what happened to Mass Effectās writer after ME2Ā
i donāt want to read lgbtq fiction i want to read genre fiction with lgbtq protags
alright friends i was thinking about this earlier and so i put together a list of some good genre fiction with lgbt main characters:
LESBIAN
the abyss surrounds us by emily skrutskie (sci fi/dystopian, woc protag)
ascension by jacqueline koyanagi (sci fi/space opera, disabled woc protag)
serenity rose by aaron alexovich (paranormal graphic novel)
everything leads to you by nina lacour (contemporary, but notĀ āaboutā lgbt issues/coming out/anything like that)
afterworlds by scott westerfeld (contemporary/paranormal, woc protag)
beauty queens by libba bray (not sure on the genre; not sure how good this is, havenāt read it myself)
sword of the guardian by merry shannon (fantasy; warning for attempted rape scene)
huntress by malinda lo (fantasy, woc protag)
the dark wife by sarah diemer (fantasy)
seven by jennifer diemer (fantasy/fairy tale retelling)
bleeding earth by kaitlin ward (horror/fantasy; havenāt read this either, not sure how it is)
GAY

more than this by patrick ness (dystopian i guess? not sure how to describe the genre tbh)
the star host by ft lukens (sci fi, havenāt read)
hero by perry moore (superhero)
BISEXUAL

the left hand of darkness by ursula k le guin (fantasy; havenāt read this either, not sure how it is)
love in the time of global warming by libba bray (dystopian; havenāt read this one either yikes)
thatās all iāve got right now! iām a lesbian so the lesbian section has the most books in it lol, but if anyone else wants to add some more books for gbt people (especially trans because Yikes that section is small), that would be awesome!
Reblogging this again to add some. A lot of these are mixed groups, so Iāve left them loosely organized, genre in bold:
