As for the updating, well...I have been writing since last Nanowrimo and this year’s April Camp Nano. Honestly, I am just never satisfied with what I am writing, especially the next chapter, because I having a problem deciding from whose perspective I want to tell the story and how. I have rewritten it several times but then I go back and think it’s either dumb or cliched for one thing or another. Also, the content gets really dark with R-rated content at some points and I am trying to figure out if it is the glorification of violence or it’s justified because of the setting. The cast of minor characters keeps getting bigger and I am trying to not get carried away. Sometimes, it brings life and character to Ephedia, but then it looks like the story is meandering and it feels like a runaway train.

So I saw these at IGA. Stella and Flora are there to make the egg stand up.

If Valtor’s coming back, I do not want him to embark on a season-long quest for vengeance against the Winx Club. It’s boring and vague. It’s one of the Trix’ main motivations and a pretty awful one because it’s just a carte blanche reason for them do anything they want.

I want Valtor to go after something more tangible than having all the power in the world, looking for vengeance, looking for world domination, etc.

I’m excited for season 8, I really am, but at the time, my expectations are low. I’m glad to hear Valtor, Riven and enchantix are back but I am also preparing myself for major disappointment or that final betrayal that Winx Club is no longer what it used to be. It sounds like season 8 might be going back to its season 3 roots and I sincerely hope that we see more worldbuilding and character development but I also do not expect Rainbow to do any of that because the last two seasons have shown me that there is lack of continuity or oversight.

Selina’s (and Eldora’s) presence alone in season six just totally negates the idea that Roxy was the last fairy of Earth. The return of the Trix in season 7 was such as asspull after they were trapped in the Legendarium. Since season 5, the villains have been weak. Tritannus could have been great if they had explored more about it motivations, but all we got was that he was “not cool.” I think it would have been interesting if he had gone evil because he had been under Valtor’s spell in season three. (Remember when Valtor turned all the mermaids into mutants?)

Darkar had been an interesting villain because he brought out the darkness in Bloom, even though we barely got to see it and she was more like a puppet. Valtor because he knew about what happened to Bloom’s parents and also because he had been conniving.

The thing that I do not want to happen in season 8 yet I know will probably happen is all the romantic couples drama crap that will inevitably come around and cause tension between them. There will probably be something between Riven and Musa (*sigh* just once I would like things to be alright between them and I thought season five was getting to stage where they were stable), something between Sky and Bloom (and probably Diaspro), and something between Helia and Flora (it seems like they are the newest victim to the writers’ ill-conceived attempts to artificially inject drama). I’m not against romantic drama--I’m actually all for it, but Rainbow, stop doing stupid shit and think about your characters as actual people! Helia is not that stupid to not know how to spritz a plant with water, especially since we know his girlfriend of many seasons has a green thumb (hint, we’ve known this since season one) and she is the literal fairy of nature and that probably his friend Krystal is the Princess of Lynphea and probably another type of nature fairy.

And let’s stop introducing characters for the sake of having a love triangle in relationships that had been established for years (in-universe time and IRL). In season five, Krystal’s introduction shows just how incapable Helia and Flora were of communicating to each other. Why were they even in a relationship in the first place? The goddamn sovereigns council drama with Bloom/Diaspro/Sky is so fucking problematic because Diaspro kept bringing up good points about putting your duty to your kingdom first but the show obviously sides with Bloom because she is the main character. Sure, Diaspro was being a total hardass but catching Sky trying to sneak out. What the hell, Sky? You’re not a fifteen-year-old who can go sneak out to see his girlfriend play in a volleyball tournament. You’re a fucking prince/king with duties, obligations and responsibilities! Someone else said this about World of Winx and I forget who but this show has a “protagonist-centric morality” that it is completely blind to the actual moral problem at hand. Then show fucks over Diaspro and makes her have a tantrum in front of all the royals and haves her trip into an indoor pond. Like what the fuck, Rainbow? I thought that Diaspro was going to be redeemed after the whole season three love potion engagement debacle but NOOOO! Let’s make her this one-dimension villainess who pines for a prince that does not love her or whose sole purpose in the plot is to be a nuisance to Bloom and Sky.

I guess I’ll get to my final point that has been an irritating problem since season five: stop treating the specialists (and all male characters in general) like this cringey male “boys will be boys” and “perfect accessory boyfriends” stereotype. I grind my teeth whenever the specialists are on screen because the way they act is so cringey for the sake of the plot. Like when they were trying to round up the fairy animals in season 7 for the party. Helia (I think?) trying to push Amarok from under a table that he’s stuck in? Just lift the table! Like what the hell? All of you can fly dragons, have fought and tamed magical creatures as a part of your specialist training, and one of you owns a dog.

By the way, did everyone just completely forget that the specialist has some form of telepathy with their dragons from season one? It’s never explicitly said but hell if I know what Sky as struggling to do if not to use telepathy to control his dragon. At least 4kids went out and said outright to give us an idea of what the hell was going on. (Let’s be honest, the original 2004 Cinelume dub is awkward in some instances.)
