Hehe so when I was picking out Riven's name, I wanted a name that seemed to have sort of water-based vibe to it since he's an aquatic hybrid! If I remember correctly, I actually had this name either already saved in my "potential names" pinterest board, or I came across it while looking for name ideas! I saw that Riven meant "to split" or "torn apart" and since I already had some ideas for Riven's role in the story, so it actually ended up being very fitting for him, and I liked how it sounded similar to the word "river" so it has water vibes! :3

As for how old he is, Riv is Literal Child. He's twelve! He's very baby and considering he's not super educated and very curious, he can be mistaken for younger. Though despite being rather naive, he's also very perceptive and can pick up on things people might not expect.

And hehe the answer to the last question is a fun one because the short answer is that he spends most of the time out of the water. BUT, Riv is half siren, 1/4 human, 1/4 naiad, so he's 3/4 aquatic actually, though his naiad part is more adaptable. When he was born and growing up with his mother, he lived almost completely under water with his mother's siren pod, but after he was captured by the Hunter's Guild, he's kept mostly out of the water unless he's really dehydrated because he's easier to manage that way.

Riv has both lungs and gills, but neither are super effective on their own so he's basically asthmatic both underwater and on land. He breathes the best when he's partially submerged in water but still has access to fresh air to breathe simultaneously, so that partial-submersion option you mentioned is best for him! :3

Here's a little bit of info about how they met and here's another lil blurb about their dynamic! :3

Hehe so as I've said, Quinan is the youngest son of a high-ranking Guildmaster in the Hunter's Guild, and Riven is the prized pet of Guildmaster Dorian Blackwood, a mid-ranking but still highly respected member of the Guild.

After the gang rescued Riv, he quickly latched onto Quinan because 1, Quin was the first human he saw and being human he was able to get close enough to Riv to free him.

Riv only knows what Dorian has taught him about humans, so to him, Quinan became his new master in his eyes. He's not really sure why he's with them because he doesn't think he was treated all that badly by Dorian, but he's also a little confused because Dorian never told him that he was going away. He was taught not to question people though so he just goes with it!

With Quin being his "new master", Riv has taken it upon himself to make sure that he serves Quin well. However, Quin hasn't given Riv any real instructions so Riv just does his best by bringing Quin gifts and food and helping him with things and following him around like a lost but eager puppy.

Quin initially doesn't realize at all what Riv is doing, and he likes the kid so he gives him little treats and lets him hang around just to be friendly.

Later, however, someone sees the group and makes a comment on Quinan's "pet". Quin vehemently denies it, saying Riv isn't his pet, but Riven gets confused and hurt like "O^O?? What did I do wrong?? Is he rejecting me?? Does my new master not like me anymore????"
