A Bloodbag A Day...
Hi I'm uploading this here because I'm determined to recruit people into my fandom for cosmIX because I love them and they've sparked more creativity in me in a week than a lot of other stuff has in like 4 years
This particular story involves Professor Yun, Jaewon and Jinah and is literally the first thing ive written about them so
Warning for Omegaverse stuff and whatever happens during a dr visit anyways enjoy
"...And the pharmacy will have your prescription ready in about an hour. If I could make a suggestion, the cafe at the end of the hall has some delightful fruit sandwiches today!"
A mumbled thanks followed the elderly woman out of the room, leaving the tall, dark-haired man in his room alone. With a heavy, though contented, sigh, he smoothed out his coat before starting the process of turning over the room for the next patient.
"Sweet Ms Thompson..." He chuckled to the empty room, tearing the wrinkled paper cover off the patient's chair to replace it with new, smooth paper. "Ah, but she's still looking so healthy! No need to worry about her, she doesn't yet jump at my jokes! It's the younger ones we need to worry about, after all. They're so jumpy in this day and age."
Once he was finished tossing the used paper away, the instruments he used to examine the patient's throat were placed in the nearby sink filled with ripping hot water. Soap- rather, disinfectant- was poured in afterwards and left to soak.
"One would think being surrounded by those...jumpscare videos would make them less scared of harmless little jokes. But no, no, they seem to have the opposite effect, making the youth so easily spooked. The elders are so used to it though, there's little fun in trying to spook them." Pulling the mask he wore down his face, he began to pull his gloves off, finger by finger, pale skin fading to black as the gloves themselves on his fingers. "Though I think it'd be rude to do it too often, I couldn't possibly make it a habit to scare-"
"Your patients too often?" A deep voice rumbled from behind him.
Though a shiver crawled up his spine, the pale man turned coolly towards the doorway, eyes crinkling into slits as he beheld the pair awaiting him.
"H-hello, Professor Yun..." The second voice, soft and delicate, came from the short feminine human standing next to the admittedly taller feline thyrin. A delicate wave followed the greeting.
"Just finishing cleaning up, my darlings! And I've told you, please call me Insu." The man smiled brightly, sharp fangs flashing. "As far as I know, you'll be my last for the day!"
"Yes, because-" The thyrin began, only for Insu to take a step forward and hold a finger up to his face.
"And that's because you, Tamino- Jaewon- collapsed on stage yesterday." Insu's voice lost it's jovial tone, darkening considerably.
"No-"
"Yes."
The pair spoke in unison, the tail of the thyrin, Jaewon, puffing up in defensiveness. The other, human, covered her mouth, hair falling into her face.
"Tch...It's not as bad as you think it was. I wasn't laid out..." Jaewon crossed his arms as his deep voice trailed off.
"He wasn't laid out on the stage but...Proff-" The girl started, only to be interrupted.
"Ah-HEM?!" Insu cleared his throat abruptly, fist to his mouth.
"...I-Insu, after the concert he-"
"He doesn't need to know that, Jinah." Jaewon growled, causing the girl, Jin-ah to shrink a bit into herself.
"Yes. I do." Insu huffed, standing up straight and crossing his arms over his chest, mirroring Jaewon's own posture. "I am your physician, Jaewon. I need to know as much as possible to ensure that you'll be able to continue performing at peak efficiency, lest Jiwon need to be told his best dancer will need to be replaced sooner rather than later."
At those words, Jaewon seemed to lose his bluster, shoulders sagging and eyes flicking to the sink full of soaking instruments in order to avoid the doctor's gaze. As he shriveled, Jinah placed a hand on his lower back in a show of silent support while also nodding at the doctor in agreement.
"He just needs an electrolyte boost, I think." she suggested, an attempt to speed the process up. "I swear, Pro- Insu, he was actually drinking water before, during, and after the performance. I swear. He swears." She emphasized by gently rubbing her friend's back.
"We swear." Jaewon agreed, sheepishly looking back at the doctor.
"Hmmmm..." Insu flicked his eyes over the pair, as if looking for a clue that the two were lying. They weren't, he knew that, but there was no way he could take their word for it quickly. He'd made that mistake in the early days of the band, and now one of the members was slightly more troublesome than the others when it came to getting him to admit his symptoms. Then again, Gav didn't have a Jinah to get him to the clinic whenever something happened. Maybe he should prescribe Gav a girlfriend. Oh, wait, right- Jaewon and Jinah were just friends. Yeah, gotta remember that's what they called each other.
The thought was enough to cause a fond smile to cross his face, breaking his carefully constructed mask of disappointment. He couldn't stay mad at the two of them for long, and even as he shook his head, he laughed and gestured to the patient chair. "Alright, alright. C'mon and sit down, let's get you hooked up for a bit. I can only assume Kryos forgot to bring the pedialyte?" Insu asked gently, jovial persona back in place.
"Yeah." Jaewon answered, uncrossing his arms finally to walk over and flop defeatedly in the chair. Jinah followed, pulling a chair with her to sit beside him. "Can't blame him, Prowl harassed him into taking a trip to get coffee like...ten minutes before the show started."
"Ah. So typical Eunjae being Eunjae, the spoiled brat." Insu nodded, pulling on a new pair of gloves and pulling his facemask back up to rummage around in a cabinet. "And what about Jiwon? Was he aware?"
"Only after the fact, when Kryos arrived with a literal armful of cups." Jinah spoke up, leaning on the arm of the chair and watching the doctor shuffle around with great interest. "Like...Prowl was nice enough to tell him to get everyone one, but..."
"Well, I'll have to have a talk with Jiwon, then." Insu sighed, turning to his patient with IV bag in one hand, the other expertly attaching a needle to the line. "I'm surprised the others didn't come shambling in here like zombies, dehydrated and caffeinated to hell and back."
"They still might." Jaewon chuckled, holding his arm out as Insu approached with a strip of rubber and the IV needle. "I think I got the worst of it, though I don't know if..." He trailed off turning to look at Jinah, tilting his head. "You see the others before we left, Bunny?"
There it was. Insu couldn't help smiling behind his face mask as he slid the needle into the surprisingly cooperative vein. It was easy for him, and others, to tell Jaewon's mood when Jinah was around. She was his Tokki, his Bunny, and if Jaewon called her otherwise, he was stressed, angry, or otherwise in a mood that one wouldn't want to be around him for long in. On the flip-side, Jinah had a calming effect on the feline thyrin...and admittedly, on him as well. The girl was a breath of fresh air, and as a doctor he needed that once in a while. It also didn't help that she had yet to present properly, and though the band- Jaewon mostly- insisted she was a Beta, he wasn't so sure. Just like he wasn't so sure the girl was human, despite the insistence of her guardians and Kryos.
His silence had allowed the pair to converse between themselves for a good amount of time, and, multitasker that he was, Insu was able to garner several things from the conversation;
Jaewon was the hardest hit by the dehydration, since he had not only chugged the coffee, but was currently on rut suppressants as he suspected he was approaching the yearly mark. Coupled with the fact that he had performed five sets where he had main dancer position, it made sense that he had collapsed at some point. Sean was just as bad, but had refused to come because he had an interview alongside Talon and Atrax, both of whom seemed to be relatively alright. In which case, Insu wasn't worried as Talon knew how to take care of the entire band nearly as well as Insu could. Siyun had complained about headaches, but had already taken steps to up his electrolytes, as had Gav. The pair of them were the most athletic-minded of the nine members, so no doubt had electrolyte-rich reserves to dig into. Taemin and Jiwon notoriously disliked coffee, so were the least affected, but he still made a note to send them some e-mails about a checkup in the near future. Prowl, according to Jaewon, was the dumb idiot who made things worse for them, but because his bloodstream was apparently filled with black nitro coldbrew, was perfectly fine.
"And you?" Jaewon grumbled, once Insu had finally gotten the IV bag onto the clamp pole and stood back a bit out of the thyrin's personal bubble. Both men's gaze settles on Jinah, and the girl seemed to shrink into herself further.
"...Me?" She asked quietly, looking between the two of them. "...What do you mean? What do I have- He's not my- Professor, You're not-"
"I may not be your primary physician, Jinah, but you too have a tendency to commit some atrocious health crimes." Insu kept his gaze on her, raising an eyebrow. "You're not on stage, but I know people at concerts tend to refuse to drink so as to not need to make bathroom visits if possible."
"Well, true, but-" Jinah attempted to defend herself, but quickly shrunk back as she was interrupted quickly.
"Not to mention your normal decision to not bring an umbrella on top of refusing to use sunscreen, which could lead to heat stroke on top of dehydration on top of-"
"No, no!" Now she was the one interrupting, holding her hands up in self defense. "Not this time!" She insisted, shaking her head vigorously. "I actually did, uh, no crimes! I had water, I used sunscreen, I even had an umbrella!"
"She did." Jaewon chimed in, nodding to Insu. "She left it in the waiting room, and she did put sunscreen on. I can't corroborate about the water though."
Narrowing his eyes, Insu turned over the possibilities in his head. Jinah did seem alright, wasn't complaining about a headache, and he could usually trust her word. And with Jaewon defending her, it was entirely possible she was fine.
But...
"...I at least want you to have a drink." He sighed, walking over to the fridge in the back corner of the room to fetch a small bottle of orange-colored liquid, cracking the cap's seal before handing it over to the girl. "I know you're aware, but just water won't do...Especially with those who are anemic." Watching her shy take the bottle and seemingly embarrasedly take a sip, he chuckled and placed a comforting hand on the top of her head. "It's not that I don't believe you, Jinah, but I know that you know that prevention is the best medi--"
He stuttered slightly, one ear twitching as he heard a growl come from the other man in the room. A quick side glance, and he was so very glad his facemask was on.
Jaewon's gaze was on his hand, still atop Jinah's head. The thyrin had become stiff, jaw clenched, ears pinned back and his grip on the arms of the chair was strong enough to strain the metal. The growl was coming from his chest, and it was entirely possible the reaction was entirely involuntary.
What had been said? That the feline was on his rut suppressants? Strange, since as far as Insu knew, he wasn't due to experience that for another few months. And his charts were immaculate, as well as accurate. Well, he had another hunch to investigate later, but for now, he had to have fun in some way, right?
Giving Jinah one final pat, earning a slightly louder growl from his primary patient, Insu stepped away to remove himself from the hit zone. "-cine. So getting you a small boost of hydration will do no harm."
"Thank you, Professor Yun, I--" Jinah started after taking a good few chugs of the drink, noticing Jaewon's...everything and pausing. "...You okay, Jae?" She asked, tilting her head in confusion.
"...Yeah. Just...needle shifted a bit." Jaewon mumbled, settling back in the chair and seemingly trying his best to get his bristled fur to settle. "Hurt."
"My apologies." Insu couldn't hide the laughter in his voice, moving back over and making a show of making sure the IV was in it's proper place. "My apologies for causing you such an inconvenience."
He knew better of course, but he wasn't going to call anything out. Not in the moment at least. For now, he'd focus on making sure both patients got the hydration they needed, and make mental notes to contact the rest of the band later. After he'd had a good nap, of course. And once he made his point to the pair in his room. "I will request that the both of you come back next week at the same time for a check-up. I'll need to make sure you at least have proper hydration before-"
"Before they head to South America." Jinah finished for him, sighing as she continued to nurse the drink.
"Correct." Insu nodded, as Jaewon huffed softly and looked away towards the wall covered in charts. "It's not just you though, I'll need to be calling the rest in along the same time, as well."
"Pfeh. Prowl's going to enjoy that, so much." Jaewon grumbled, unable to keep himself from smiling. "Hope you poke him like you did me and get to see how black his veins are."
"Mister Coffee-for-blood." Jinah giggled, holding out the now-empty bottle. "But this way you don't have to worry while they're away, right?"
"Correct again." Taking the bottle from the girl, Insu had a moment to think about his next course of action. Hundreds of years of life hadn't lessened his enjoyment of messing with others, even slightly. It was a joy in his life to press others' buttons, especially when he knew he was in little danger of retaliation.
But as he placed his hand upon Jinah's head and lightly ruffled her hair, he had a feeling that he may suffer some form of retaliation, even minuscule. The chair beside him creaked as the thyrin's grip increased once more, and the noise that escaped him wasn't a held-back growl- it was a snarl. Taking the chance to glance at him, Insu was once again glad for his mask as he beheld bared fang, pupils contracted into slits, ears pinned back and a visible furious aura. A button had indeed been pressed, and one that was just so big and shiny and red that the doctor was all to happy to keep going for a moment longer.
If not for Jinah's gasp.
"J-jae?" She stayed still, but had tensed up.
"I-- Needle." The thyrin mumbled, visibly trying to calm himself as soon as the doctor moved away from the girl to go and mess with the bag and needle once more.
"Well, seeing as the bag is nearly empty, I may as well remove it instead of trying to find a different spot." Insu chuckled. "Though I must insist you visit the pharmacy before you leave, grab a case of pedialyte. I'll write a prescription for both of you."
"Wh- But I'm not-" Jinah started as she stood up from the chair.
"Don't worry about it, I'll cover your cost as a friendly favor. Now, if you need to ask anyth-" Insu's thought died on his tongue as he turned from disposing of the bag and needle back to the pair. The sight did in fact render him speechless.
Jaewon had risen from his chair, stepped up against Jinah, and had draped himself over her, his cheek resting atop her head. Insu watched as the other man took a deep inhale, twitched his ears, and began to not-too-subtly nuzzle into the girl's hair. The Alpha's pheromones were noticeable now, and even a Beta less experienced could probably pick them up, which made Insu nervous to see the state of the waiting room. Jinah seemed to be unaffected by the pheromone increase, but had certainly noticed the nuzzling if the blush spreading across her face was any indication.
Goodness help him, the two were simply adorable.
"As always, I'm available at any point for questions, should you have them. I'll let Jiwon know that you both will be arriving with something for the whole team, and you should expect a text in a few days to confirm your next appointment." Pulling his gloves off, his mask down and leaning against the counter, Insu gave the two of them a smile. Honest and as warm as he could make it. "The heatwave should break tomorrow for a while, so it sould be easier to keep on top of hydration, hm?"
"Guess so." Jaewon shrugged, finally standing up straight, hands shoved into his pockets. "Appreciate you, Professor."
"Yes, thank you so much, Professor Yun!" Jinah exclaimed, now completely red in the face and fiddling with the sleeves of her hoodie. "We, um...We should head out and, um.."
"Go on, then." Insu nodded to them, gaze following as Jaewon all but dragged Jinah out by the same sleeve she had been worrying. "And don't forget your other payment option!"
The two were gone before he could finish speaking, and he sighed once more, fondly. The two of them in particular made working alongside cosmIX so much more entertaining, and as he moved to take a blood-filled pouch out of the fridge to sip on, he pondered.
Pondered if he was right in his hunch that Jinah as not human, nor that she would be a Beta. Pondered if Jaewon would be aware of his feelings sooner rather than later and risk his beloved childhood friend being snatched up by someone else. Pondered if the band would be able to survive their first world tour. The only thing he didn't have to ponder was if he was going to see them again, because of course he would.
They were silly little creatures, but they were his silly little creatures to take care of until they no longer walked the earth.
