This oneās for theĀ āautismās not a disability because Iām autistic and not disabled!ā crowd.
Hereās the thing: you can have a disabilityā¦and not be disabled. Sounds wild, I know, so let me elaborate with examples. I have an older sister who has asthma, which is a disability. But she doesnāt have to take medicine for it, it only bothers her sometimes when the weather changes and itās never really that annoying, she just has it.Ā
One of my other sisterāsĀ also has asthma and she canāt really run, has to take medicine regularly, gets attacks and cannot be around smoke of any kind. She is disabled. My other sister is not.
Disability as an identity isnāt just important for the obvious reasons many assume, which is accommodations but for community as well. And when you claim autism isnāt a disability because you personally arenāt disabled by it, maybe you think youāre outsmarting our oppressors. Maybe you think youāre helping yourself, separating yourself from theĀ ādumbā autistics.Ā
But youāre not. And youāre not.Ā
Because when you try to un-tether a disability from the disabled community, youāre just isolating us more than we are already and youāre directly harming our goddamn community. Youāre trying to prove youāre one of the good ones and shoving down and shutting up the ones of us who DONāT fit those qualifications.
So if your autism isnāt a disability,Ā then you need to shut the fuck up and listen to the other people in your community because so many of you are harming us even though youāre some of the few people who are supposed to give a fuck and Iām sick of it.

I mean, she did explicitly want children. She was just determined to never have them because she didnāt feel it was fair to have kids who might be forced to enter the Hunger Games and after her involvement in the games she feared kids would be used against her. Her having children at the end means she thinks they can have a future.
Edit: The Hunger Games are about a world where violent revolution was nessecary and justified but the war was not glorious and caused pain and trauma to people involved. In having children the epilogue tells us that Katniss believes the revolution made things better even though she will always be scarred from the experience.
Reblogging this vers bc ppl in the notes have the coldest fucking takes the ending of mockingjay was Susan Collins realizing what you, the reader, needed to see was the fact Katnissā trauma doesnt just magically heal or go away Katniss doesnāt just get the perfect life with a husband and two kids but rather her and Peeta spend years healing and working through their traumas and helping each other recover in a very realistic way and then she chooses to have kids because she finally feels like not only will her and Peeta have futures but that their kids wont be in danger merely from existing. Hunger Games has such a good and realistic portrayal of heavy topics and shows a great deal about handling depression, anxiety, and PTSD and the ppl in the notes somehow missed these fact the end knows you donāt want to just see everything be magically okay. Like if you want a shitty epilogue that doesnāt acknowledge that recovering from something like this isnt perfect and takes time just go read Deathly Hollows again lol

there are like five rules to life and those rules are
1. eat 3 meals a day
2. always have a non alcoholic drink with you

Now do you want to stick to your āweāll fight them off!ā plan or do you want to START PACKING AND GET OFF THIS ROCK BEFORE THE ANGRY ALIENS MAKE IT RAIN LASERS AND ANTIMATTER BOMBS?ā and the colonists are like āwell when you put it that wayā¦ Maybe we should get ready to move.ā
Meanwhile Picard is playing some 4D diplomatic chess so theyāll have time to get the colonists off the planet, and he pulls it off brilliantly. The Sheliak are deadset on colonizing in 4 days and if they find any humans on that rock, theyāre killing then. Itāll take weeks to evacuate them. Picard is looking through every line of the treaty, looking for loopholes, and finding nothing. The Sheliak are a race of lawyers. They donāt make mistakes. But Picard thinks outside the box.
He calls up the Sheliak. āhey, weāre having a disagreement, right? We want you to delay a few weeks, you want to colonize this planet, we canāt reach an agreement. Well the treaty says that we can get a third party to arbitrate this problem, can we do that?ā
The Sheliak are like āyeah sure but theyāre gonna rule in our favor, that contract is perfect.ā
And Picard smiles his ass off and goes āOK GREAT for the third party Iām picking the Grizzelas.ā
And the Sheliak lose their shit. The Grizzelas are a race that hibernate. Theyāre gonna be in hibernation for SIX MORE MONTHS. But according to the treaty, Picard gets to pick who will arbitrate the disagreement.
Picardās like āI see youāre not happy about my choice. How about I agree to skip arbitration for a small favor? How aboutā¦ Three weeks to evacuate that colony?ā
And the Sheliak are like āOK FINE YOU WIN, SHINY-HEAD. YOU GET YOUR THREE DAMN WEEKS.ā
I just love the episode. Data saves the day by realizing that sometimes debate isnāt enough and you need violence. Picard saves the day by rules-lawyering a race of lawyers and avoiding violence.
Ensigns of Command really is damn good on a number of levels. In addition to all the stuff stated above, we also get: -In an era of technobabble solutions to problems, Geordi was ordered to try to find a way to bypass the radiation that was preventing them from transporting the colonists up. After Picard resolves the situation, at first it implies heās found the solutionā¦ aaand then expectations are subverted when he admitsĀ āYeah, no, this is impossible weāre not going to tech our way out of it.ā -The leader of the colony, upon admitting defeat, somberly admits to Data that he really was willing to fight and die to protect what theyād built, but Data sums up an important message that can apply to a lot of stuff in life:Ā āThis is just a thing. Things can be replaced. Lives cannot.ā -First proper attempt at a Data romance. Obviously not going to go anywhere with the love interest of the week, but rather cute regardless.

We donāt say this often enough (though I think most of us know it) but men who canāt write women are bad writers.
