SPOILERS FOR BSD, STORMBRINGER AND BEAST
Yk that trend where character A would sacrifice themselves for the world while character B would sacrifice the world for you? It's something I think about a lot in case of soukoku. I DO get where the idea of Chuuya being A and Dazai being B comes from, but I don't entirely agree.
I personally think it's the opposite. Time and time again we're being constantly reminded that a huge part of Chuuya's character is his undying loyalty. In stormbringer it was stated directly that Chuuya will always help his loved ones regardless of whether they've betrayed him in the past. And yeah, I do get that he sacrificed a lot for the Sheep, and put his life at risk several times for the Port Mafia. So that WOULD make one think he'd die for you. And yes, he would. And while that's true, I still don't agree with it.
Remember Beast? In both the novel and manga, his involvement in the au was very minor (still made me go crazy tho) compared to the actual main characters. I was VERY interested in his involvement in Dazai's plan though, and just about soukoku's overall relationship in this timeline. The movie was an entirely different case. Chuuya had scenes, ACTUAL scenes especially near the end (I crashed out hard, trust me). And what happened there? He went on a rampage on the ADA after Dazai's death and got captured and contained by the government. (I cried) I know he was sort of unstable in the beast movie, but I think it shows how deep his loyalty and ruthlessness runs.
That's why I always thought that Chuuya is too loyal a person to care about the ENTIRE world. I'm not saying he wouldn't save it like he did in dead apple and stormbringer, but I always had a gut feeling that yes, Chuuya WOULD sacrifice the world for his loved ones. It just fits his entire nature and his core trait of loyalty.
Think about the main anime/manga itself. It's genuinely hilarious that Chuuya is constantly doing the bare minimum when it comes to dealing with something outside of the Mafia. The ADA? He does NOT gaf. In season 4 he saved the agency members on orders from Mori himself. When Kunikida straight up JUMPED from the helicopter, my man didn't bat a single eye despite having FULL capability of jumping out and rescuing him unharmed.
My point? Chuuya would give it all for the ones he's loyal to, not at all limited to sacrificing himself only. And yes, he would absolutely set the world on fire for them. Anyway, I think that trend is pretty flexible for skk because both of them fit both A and B to some extent. It just leads to a lot of mischaracterization, something I personally hate, so I wanted to share my own opinion on Chuuya, who the fandom loves to dumb down and mischaracterize for some reason. I see people making him too nice and I just wanna scream. He certainly isn't a bad person and is better than a lot of PM members, but he certainly isn't an innocent angel either.
Again this is just my opinion. I get that Chuuya isn't a major character in the main manga, so there are a lot of interpretations on him. I really just want more people to view him for his amazing, multidimensional character, not his relationship with that mf Dazai or something. My baby deserves the world <333
