Related and interesting, but ultimately not canon, Will does say in Teen Talk (I don't have the clip on me but it's probably the ep. 47 one, I may retrieve it when it's not time for me to be hitting the hay lol this was a spur of the moment post) that, in his mind, Mercedes would have been the one thing keeping Henry tethered to his sons after Code Purple, and it is after her death that Henry would have finally cut the twins off and moved to Oakvale. While obviously further hammering in the point that who is and who isn't in Henry's life is primarily the result of his choices (he is, after all, a grown-ass adult who can make his own decisions), there is also the heavy implication that Henry would have abandoned Lark and Sparrow (and his grandkids) while they were in mourning. That last point is conjecture based off of something stated outside of canon, no argument there, but it does leave much to think about!

But the actual point of this post is what I've already said: it is blatantly dishonest to attempt to spin Henry's company and relationship to his blood relatives in the present of season 2 (be that his estrangement from his children, his absence from the lives of his grandchildren, or his acceptance of Bear Ry back into his life) as anything other than the natural consequences of his own will and his own decisions, whether you agree with his personal justifications for doing so being irrelevant to this particular discussion and besides the point. Surely all of this can also be found to follow naturally not only from Henry's feelings towards the twins (and especially Sparrow), but from his additional motivations in going to the world the Doodler was sent to; to summarize it poorly: to salvage what he could from the inside (rather than resolve what he could from the outside, or abandon things altogether).
