On Saturday I said to my partner, as I have said for months, "A ten thousand dollar a year raise would solve so many of my problems."
As of this morning I was reluctantly looking for jobs because I love my job and don't want to leave it, but see: $10k raise problem solver.
As of noon today this was no longer an issue, because my boss called me with the news that I was getting a $10K merit raise.
I feel like a huge weight has been lifted off my shoulders. This is roughly $200 extra per paycheck. Enough to pay off debt faster, rebuild my savings, and spend a weekend a month in Milwaukee getting obscenely laid. The sex I'm going to have on $200 extra per paycheck. You can't even.
May all of you get the $10K raise your soul has yearned for. And whatever level of sex you can be satisfied with for $200.

So this really has no purpose except angst for angst's sake but;
Idea that Rumi had a dog growing up, a puppy that she found dumped on the side of the road and begged and pleaded with Celine to keep until Celine gave in and agreed that the puppy could live with them.
"You're going to be taking care of it, Rumi-ya," Celine says, already knowing that she's going to be the one feeding and watering the mangy, skinny thing.
Runi grows older, the dog grows older.
And the life of a touring pop star really isn't the best life to give to an aging dog so Rumi decides that it's really for the best if the dog stays with Celine on Jeju, where it's quieter and slower.
(The dog misses Rumi very much)
And what no one tells Rumi, what Rumi has to learn from getting older, is that the years pass quick. And they pass especially quick when one is an artist busy with tours and interviews and marketing and slaying demons.
("When did his muzzle go gray?" She asks, one Chuseok, on one of the precious few days she's able to make it to Jeju.
"Oh, it's been getting that way for a while," Celine says, pushing up her new reading glasses. "We're both senior citizens now.")
(And Rumi had rolled her eyes because Celine wasn't even fifty yet.)
By the time the Idol Awards came around again and Rumi's secret was revealed, she hadn't been back to Jeju for... a while. Her patterns were spreading and she could feel her time running out.
When Rumi arrives on Jeju, she arrives at the hanok first.
And the dog, waiting at the front door (where it had been waiting a long time), raises its head, recognizing Rumi's scent.
Rumi, not wanting to greet her dog like this, shooes it away. Promising that she would be back and walks up the steps to the tree and Celine.
And the dog, watching Rumi go, having waited and lingered until Rumi returned home, lays it's head down a final time.
I've seen a bunch of "fandom etiquette" posts on my dash today and I'm going to say something that is maybe going to be unpopular but;
The absolutely pervasive mentality that unwanted criticism or critique shouldn't be given and should be ignored is why fans of color don't stay in fan spaces.
And I am not going to mince words here:
A lot of you are racist. A lot of your fan works are racist.
That might have been difficult to hear. And if it was, you should probably reflect on why that was.
"Fandom etiquette" has created a space where fans of color either bite our tongues and eventually leave or say something, get dogged on, and then eventually leave.
So much of "fandom etiquette" seems to be about insulating creatives from Feeling Bad and hostility to any kind of negative feedback is a pretty big contributor to why bigotry festers in these spaces.
I think I realized why the way the fandom treats Celine bothers me so much. Like I always thought she was an interesting character and the hate train has died down quite a bit since the movie premiered, but there's still somethings I see every now and then. And the thing that kills me is that in blaming her, it completely takes away the agency of the other characters, the ones who actually had screen time in the movie.
When the movie aired, there was so much demonization of Celine as a character, which not all of it is undeserved. Regardless of her good intentions, she laid a foundation for Rumi to hate her patterns and cause her to have weird swings with her self worth. No one, even the most diehard Celine fans are going to deny that. But the thing is, Celine did not cause the plot of the movie to happen. Sure she helped it happen, but everything that happened was the fault of the characters in the movie.
Celine has less than 5 minutes of screen time, a good chuck of which is exposition and flashbacks, she helped shape the story, but it is the main characters that make things happen. But the parts of the fandom that hate and condemn Celine use her as something to blame because it's easier than holding their favorite character accountable for their actions.
There are 4 main characters in KPDH, their actions are what cause things to break in the movie and should be allowed to keep their agency as characters without blaming other factors. They are all adults, young adults arguably since they are in their 20's or frozen in their 20's but adults all the same. they are not 17 year olds in their first year of debut or something, they are adults and their actions should be considered their own. Yes, the way they were raised shaped them, but as adults they are responsible for their own actions and choices.
Everytime I see a 'it's Celine's fault rumi broke down because she made her hide her patterns,' or 'It's Celine's fault for teaching Mira and Zoey to hate demons and that's why they did x and y,' it just is a narrative parts of the fandom tell themselves to not have to hold the characters accountable for their actions. At the end of the day, Rumi chose to keep her secret and confide in Jinu instead of her friends. Zoey and Mira raised their weapons against Rumi and refused to let her explain. Jinu betrayed and had Rumi assaulted as he revealed her biggest secret to the world. that's not even counting all the bad stuff he did that didn't revolve around the main characters in and before the movie. these are all choices that the characters make to help doom the world and are just as important to them as the ones they make to save it.
again, no one is gonna pretend that Celine didn't fuck up, especially when she tried to get Rumi to hide her patterns after everything, but the honmoon was already breaking and hell was breaking lose. Everyone of them fucked up, but only one was used and is still used as the fandom's punching bag.
I dont' know I just needed to get this out, as someone who isn't the age demographic for the movie I do understand why people react to Celine as a character compared to the others. But as someone who wants to be a writer one day and is slightly older than a big part of fandoms in general, (Im 34 almost 35 that makes me old these days) I just can't help be bothered by the way fandoms will be bias even if I understand why.
Like going off of the movie (I know what the creators have said in interviews but I also don't think they remember their own timeline very well), Huntr/x is the five-time defending winner of the Idol Awards, looking for their sixth win in a row.
Which, to me, means that, at minimum, they have been professional performers for the last 6-7 years, if not longer.
Assuming Rumi debuted as an adult, that puts her solidly in her mid-twenties, probably around 24-25 if not older with Mira and Zoey not that far behind.
And at that point, they are just grown adults who are perfectly capable of reflecting on their own upbringing and challenging the beliefs they grew up with.
Like what gets me about the fandom is this refusal to just... let these characters be responsible for their beliefs and actions?

Celine has, over the years, done many stupid things. Since Miyeong’s death, it has often been a choice of doing something stupid or letting people die.
Now, back split open and adrenaline not doing nearly enough to kill the pain, she is certainly regretting tonight’s stupidity.
The fox wants to yowl. Celine, instead, clenches her teeth and lets one sword fall into the Honmoon, holding her bad arm close to her body and continuing on one-handed.
The horde clears. It always does. With Hyeonseo at her side, it always would.
Finally, she slows, vision swimming.
The fox manages to take their mouth back, but the noise that comes out is thin and warbling.
“Celine?” Hyeonseo asks.
Hm. She’s gotten very close.
“Stitches,” the fox declares.
Hyeonseo hisses, stripping off her jacket. Celine tightens her grip on her remaining sword as she knots it tight across her body, trying to hold some of the blood in.
The pain is nothing like Jeonghui’s blade was, but at least it hurts. At least Celine can suffer properly. Maybe if she used her axe?
“And why the hell would I do that?” Hyeonseo asks, half-picking her up with an arm under her shoulders, and Celine realizes she said that out loud. Whoops.
There's this idea (belief?) in certain areas of the fandom that Celine was somehow uniquely unqualified to raise Rumi which is just hmmm.
(Is the word I'm looking for hyperindividualistic?)
Like somehow Miyeong or Third or Their Mentors would be fine with Rumi; that they'd be able to move beyond their training and lived experience fighting demons and living through the 20th century as a South Korean woman to *truly accept* Rumi in a way that Celine is unable to;
As if Celine flaws are unique to her and is some personal ontological part of herself as opposed to the result of the time and life expeience she had.
Like, somehow, Celine's teachings sprung from nothing and if only she hadn't existed, then everything would be fine?
Star Twinkle PreCure came out in 2019, and features an alien girl who is bewildered by earth schools, because on her planet, nobody goes to school or has to learn anything because AI can just tell them anything.
I decided to cut some clips from an episode where she tries to go to earth school and struggles with relying on AI. Mostly posting on tumblr because it's the easiest way to share it(without youtube copyright checks)

Guys... Is it me or- I'm the only one uncomfortable with kdph collaborating with McDonalds???
Like- seriously... Am I the only? No hate to the food it's good but- the girls won't support what McDonalds support because they fight for peace and well... Idk
(for those who doesn't know, McDonalds is being boycotted because, they support Israel during the complications to Gaza... And stuff...)
told my girlfriend that if she proposes i want a secondhand wedding ring. i explained i don't want to contribute to a vanity-based industry like diamond mining, and that it would be important to me to continue marriage traditions in a way that causes minimal environmental and personal harm. she asked me if i was just trying to roll the dice on obtaining a haunted object, and i told her i can want two things.
Mira had always hated the idea of taking on her family's business. Mostly because she hated the idea of taking after her family in general.
Since she was old enough to understand, they had been trying to turn her into the perfect heir.
Despite the fact that her brother was older and actually, you know, wanted to eventually take on the family business, they decided that she...the problem child with no interest whatsoever in the family business, should be the one to take over.
She was forced to take extra classes for subjects she didn't care for, deal with tutors she didn't need and learn about stuff that bored her to death.
But she was good at it. Very good at it. She had the mind for it, a natural talent.
She hated it.
She hated that she could see herself enjoying it if it involved her own interests instead of theirs.
Her passions were elsewhere. Music. Dance. Fashion.
So she threw herself into them. Trying get as far away from that stifling expectation.
And it paid off.
She became an idol.
She was doing things she loved.
With the added bonus of the Demon Hunting on the side, that was a surprise for sure and sometimes she still wakes up wondering if that part of her life is just a fever dream.
Despite that though...she still finds herself thinking about what might have been had she not decided to take her own path.
If she took on the family business.
Or if she started her own. Used those skills that she was forced to hone and make something. Something she wanted. Something she loved.
She thinks about it...and loathe to admit when she does she see Celine.
Celine...who had built Sunlight Entertainment. From the ground up. An Empire. Who broke through the Idol Industry door with brute force and said 'I'm doing things my way. If you don't like it, Fuck off.'
Controversial and Successful.
That's what Mira remembers when she first looked into the company while searching for her own path to something great.
It chimed in her chest, making her heart beat faster with every piece of lore learned. She knew then what she wanted. What she strived for.
She wanted to be that shift.
So when that shift herself personally called out to her and offered her a place in a trio she basically said yes before the question was finished being asked.
From there it was just a mixture of so much stuff all at once. Demons. Demon Hunting. Demon Hunters. Honmoon. Gwi-ma.
That first year was rough.
Her seemingly one-sided rivalry with Rumi didn't help. She knew why.
Rumi was everything her parents wanted her to be. She looked at Rumi and saw what she could have been had she not left.
She hated her.
She envied her.
Because Rumi was the shift she wanted to be.
She didn't get it at first. Of course she didn't. She was too busy being a smart ass to recognize her own jealousy.
Too blind to realise that she wanted to be the one Celine would explain company policies to. Take her into meeting with the board, explain stats and strategies. How do deal with media, idols, markets, etc. Show her how everything and anything worked.
Stuff Mira mostly knew already. Had been taught in a different setting with different instructions but it was all the same in the end.
Rumi was a natural. She was professional. Polite. She was a great leader. She was perfect for job of eventually taking on the role of Head of Sunlight Entertainment.
So color Mira surprised when Celine offered her the position instead.
"But Rumi-"
"-is perfect for the role yes...but she isn't who I want. I don't want perfect. I want someone right for the job."
"But...why me?"
"I've seen you, Mira. I always have."
"I don't understand."
"I know, but you will. In time."
"I don't...know what to say."
"I know. I don't expect you to have everything figured out immediately. That would be unfair."
"I guess I did literally just find out."
"For now all you need to know is that I know, in time, you'll do right by my baby. Just as you did right by my baby girl."

Did you watch KPDH, see Celine, and immediately start frantically grabbing blender parts or something? Leave her alonneeeeeeeee!
I actually didn’t! I didn’t have strong feelings about Celine either way initially, I watched the movie and went “ah Rumi’s flawed but loving mom who shows up for two minutes”
And then I entered the ao3 tag and 98% of what I found wanted her dead
So I got protective
Hurting her is an act of love <3
