these are getting weird
I am running a marathon with a twisted ankle and it hurts but some pain is normal, right? Everyone says it's supposed to be hard. It is a marathon after all. I am running a marathon with a twisted ankle but honestly it could be worse, right? I heard someone once finished with a broken leg. The ankle is nothing compared to that. I am running a marathon with a twisted ankle but you can get used to pain, right? The body can endure almost anything. The problem is always the mind. I am running a marathon with a twisted ankle but I made it this far, that means I can keep going, right? Everyone says it's supposed to be hard. It is a marathon after all.
I know intellectually the point OP is trying to make, but I lowkey do still resonate with this kind of thought process. I know it isnât healthy for longevity, but if I want to do a really hard thing, Iâll suffer through whatever I need to in order to say that I did it. Like, some people will finish the marathon and have a much easier time than me, but I still want to do it too. And I donât want to feel like a hard thing is too easy; thatâs the whole point of doing a hard thing.
Up front: I don't think that I was trying to make one precise point. It's a deeply emotional poem, not a think piece, and I deliberately left things open for interpretation. What I would like to say to this specific point now, however: The marathon already is the "hard thing" without a twisted ankle. Even if you run a marathon uninjured, you are going to have sore muscles; you can get cramps, side stitches, wounds from chafing, lose a toenail, etc. It will always be hard, and some people will have it harder than others, e.g., based on genetics, how well their training went, what pace they aim for, how much sleep they got, and how well they ate. Regardless, it can absolutely be worth it to push through (and suffer until the finish line). That's why it can be so easy to ignore the ankle at first. The ankle will, however, get worse. And it will come to a point where you won't be able to push through simply with the power of will. Even with all the grit in the world, and no matter how much you are willing to suffer, the injury ultimately will at least slow you down (if not worse). You always can keep going unless you can't. I do not deny that there is some triumph in the pain after all; it feels like you are defying the odds (and if there is something we love to glorify, it is exactly that). But there is a reason people start breaking down at 36 km in. It's not because they are weak or not willing to suffer (if that was the case, they would not be at 36 km). It's because there is a point where the power of will is not enough anymore. Maybe that point never comes for you. In fact, I wish it won't. This is just a small warning. The fact that you made it this far on an injury does not mean you can and should keep going, and it does not make you exceptional. It just makes you lucky for now. Please get that ankle checked; please take care.

you all donât even try to hide your transmisogyny
This is an ancient tactic to handwave feminism in all forms since the beginning of time. "I wont take this feminism stuff seriously until a man tells me how it is." What makes this exceptionally transmysoginistic is that trans women are expected to engage with this criticism like its actually about inclusivity, and not just boring ass regular laughed-out-of-the-room misogyny.
this is what i mean when i type đ btw

if you comment some demanding shit like this on fanfic writersâ works, you donât deserve the privilege of getting to read fanfiction for free
Fun fact! Demanding updates is also likely to make authors delay them, either out of spite, or because you bring their mood too low to effectively write!
For me it causes both <3
james ortiz provided some of his own personal rocky backstory on the sag aftra podcast, transcribed by me because we all have to be miserable about it together.
link to the podcast, this section below is from timestamp 24.35
âandy weir provided a packet to the creature shop that was like a packet of eridian biology and stuff but there wasnât much about eridian culture or eridian sociology and i made a bunch of choices going in because i just needed to have like a âwho am i?â right?Â
[âŚ] and i made a decision that rockyâs species, that eridians are really social animals that in fact are like a beehive or a pod of dolphins - itâs a unique and really integrated ecosystem of everybody doing their [specific] part. and the fact that rocky had to fly that ship for about 45 years - longer than grace has been alive, i wanna point that out - heâs been alone on that ship, having to run that by himself and- ryan and i would talk about that, one day we sat down and he was like âso whatâs the movie from rockyâs perspective?â and i was like âoh itâs like âalienâ, [âŚ] like heâs in a âcontagionâ movie by himself and he has no idea whatâs going on.â
heâs basically in castaway by himself which of course ryan is too but like, one reason why we never cut to the past of rocky is like, i think it was really horrifying! i donât think rocky has slept in however many years and so a thing i was really struggling with is this idea of like ârocky must watch sleepâ because how do you make that a need as opposed to like, a cute idea? and i just had to make the decision that [âŚ] he has a lot of unprocessed trauma around the things that he doesnât understand and how much he is blaming himself because heâs the guy who fixes, heâs the guy who fixes and there was something really freeing about deciding that rocky was a deeply emotional, deeply anxious, deeply horrified person - being - that is trying to move through that in some way and how that affects the early scenes with him until thereâs a point in the story where you can see weâve physically softened rockyâs behaviour, because heâs finally feeling more safe and ok but all of that lore, all of that information [was essential].
i also decided, this is just a small nerdy thing, that there was actually some of his family, was on that ship too.â
You canât be talking like that White Petplayer⌠you canât be saying mutt like that White Petplayer⌠I know no ones ever called you a filthy mutt unless they were letting you hump their boot but letâs use some critical thinking, White PetplayerâŚ.
Yeah, don't be this guy.
Like this take may sound woke and seem to make sense to you, but apply any critical thinking and you'll realize this puts you in the same camp as the homophobes, transphobes, and all other bigots.
You don't get to police what other consenting adults do in their bedrooms. You don't get to make people feel ashamed of how they get off. No one does. No matter how much you dislike it. No matter how justified you feel about it. Those folks who want to genocide us for being queer and trans feel just as justified, they feel just as much that it makes sense, they feel just as much that it is their right to take their personal discomfort out on people who are different from them. Which is all this is just with a progressive veneer.
Lay off this shit.
Hi! The thesis of the above post was âif you are white, you should be practicing some critical thinking about how you use certain words in your play that are historically used as racial slurs when applied to people.â
I think it is interesting that there is an assumption here that my advice to practice critical thinking in regards to racial dynamics, one, has the goal of making people âfeel ashamedâ about their kink, and two, that it equates to a desire to police and enforce what people do in their bedroom. I think itâs interesting that white people, when told that they might be saying something racist or perpetuating harm out of ignorance, assume that the nonwhite person talking to them has the intention to shame and police them.
To be clear. I am a mixed race petplayer. I am both a pet and a handler. I have used the word mutt in my petplay in the past, and while itâs not my preferred term, I am very open to using it!
However, I have observed in the petplay community, a massive skew towards whiteness. Iâve talked to other racialized kinksters who tell me that they have avoided petplay, not because they have no interest in the pet dynamic, but because the way that the widely white participant base are so ignorant to the nuance and complexity involved when a bipoc person is compared to an animal when squared with our racial background.
White petplayers have an obligation to understand that when they say things like âfilthy muttâ all of the racialized people around them, especially the mixed race people, are going to have our hackles raised in a way that another white person might not. They have an obligation to consider how theyâre using words that are used as racial slurs around and directed at real people who come from real racial groups with real histories of oppression and violence rooted in calling us certain terms and comparing us to animals.
I also think it is in exceptionally poor taste to call upon the imagery of âpeople who want to genocide [white] queer peopleâ when you are talking to someone about a racial term that is literally related to genocide and âbettering the race.â This is, ironically, the very nuance that I said white petplayers people lack in their interactions. But thatâs beside the point.
