They were expecting to be raptured. Lotta videos of sad people crying because they gotta get ready for work tomorrow. I'm not gonna lie I watched maybe four or five before I started feeling bad.

It can be hard to tell, and vary from person to person. "Grifting" can be a misleading term here because the people who gain fame and notoriety from this often want it to be true themselves. I would describe it as a charismatic exercise. An attempt to trigger the rapture by simply believing that it will happen hard enough. I think of it like a stress response.
