“mild autism” kind of suggests that autism is a bad thing… autism is a difference, not an illness; in our current society it’s very often a handicap, for instance because of sensory differences (hypersensibility to lights, noise, etc). some autistic peeps have more difficulties in their daily lives then others, but the labels “high-fonctioning”, “mild/severe” do not help. the very same person could alternatively be labeled high-fonctioning or low-functioning depending on what you put on the forefront. “high-fonctioning” allows people to silence our issues and force us to count ourselves lucky. it also encourages a feeling of superiority in some people (cf Aspie supremacists and their unsufferable condescendance). the label “low-functioning” allows for people to infantilise and otherize autistic people. people with “severe autism” are treated like robots or zoo animals; their parents are pitied and in some cases shown understanding when they murder their autistic kid (i’m not making this up, research it). some autistic people are wrapped in wet cold blankets in an attempt to make them neurotypical. the very common ABA therapy for autistic people is abusive. when autistic people advocate for neurodiversity and talk of not needing a cure it doesn’t pop out of the blue, there is context and it’s important.

by all means shut up people who minimise the struggle of schizophrenic people. but don’t make shortcuts about autism while doing so. some autistic people who are also traumatised can be misdiagnosed with a personality disorder (talking from experience here), so pretending “mildly autistic” people are safe from psychophobia is a very gross misunderstanding.

let’s not ignore how class plays into this, too. a very wealthy white person with a supportive family who has a personality disorder (bipolar disorder for instance) is arguably less likely to suffer severe medical mistreatment than an isolated, autistic poc from a poor background with C-PTSD. and for sure some autistic people are relatively sheltered from some issues that can plague a lot of us because of wealth and privilege.

You know Shane and Ryan have said that people shipping them makes them uncomfortable right? And you know that it’s weird and creepy to ship real life people, yeah?

Because… they AREN’T characters. You CAN’T just headcanon them as gay. Speaking from personal experience, when someone told me I would “be cute” with a close friend, I stopped showing him as much friendly physical affection because I wasn’t interested in dating him and I was concerned I could be sending mixed signals.

Now think about that. Think about how people, real actual people, might feel if they realize that people are writing about them as a couple, initially without their knowledge and definitely without their consent. Think about what it would feel like to realize hundreds of people are writing and/or reading graphic fanfiction about you and a close friend having sex.

When you have headcanons for characters or ship characters that’s okay because they’re not real people, they will never see what’s being written about them, they don’t have any actual free will, nothing will actually hurt them because they don’t exist, they’re fictional. When you ship and headcanon celebrities, that’s a whole ass human person who you don’t even know who never gave you permission to take their own personal life and fictionalize it.

THEN, he couldn’t decide which one he wanted to date more, so he kept dating Julie and didn’t tell Rachel anything about his decision after they had kissed

THEN he made a pros and cons list to decide whether or not to dump Julie so he could date Rachel and he wrote shit like: Too ditzy, too spoiled, too into her looks, not much in common since she’s just a waitress, and she has fat ankles

THEN, after he finally decided to dump Julie and be with Rachel, he tried to hide the list from her but she found it anyway and got rightfully pissed off

THEN he tried to make all sorts of excuses for the list without actually apologizing

THEN he ignored Rachel’s choice to be alone by CLIMBING UP THE SIDE OF THEIR BUILDING INTO THEIR FUCKING BALCONY to try and force her to listen to him read her “Pro-list”

THEN he gets his other friends to let him into the house after Rachel makes it clear that she doesn’t want to see him by going into her room

THEN Rachel tries to explain to him why she’s so hurt by the list by telling him that all the things he wrote on the list were things she actually hates about herself and it sucks he not only agrees with her but actually uses those things as reasons not to be with her

THEN he CONTINUES to try and make excuses for himself and even try to make her feel bad about being mad at him by turning the situation around by saying “If things were the other way around, there’s nothing you could write about me that would make me not want to be with you”

THEN, after Rachel makes it clear that she’s not interested in talking to him, he calls Monica and asks her to turn on the radio since he made a song request for her so he’s basically forcing Rachel to listen to him

SO IN CONCLUSION: He didn’t apologize ONE TIME for the list, he tried to manipulate Rachel into forgiving him by saying she’s overreacting, AND proceeded to ignore Rachel’s wishes for a little bit of space continuously
