Went to see the new He-Man movie. We'd heard mixed reviews, so we went in with the expectation that it would be quippy to a degree I'd find annoying and have some casting choices I'd severely disagree with (even outside of Leto, I mean), but would generally hang together pretty well. It was so bad we walked out at the 90-minute mark. This thing was so fucking bad that we beat feet before I learned the fate of favorite best boy Cringer, gang. This was a movie so terrified of letting the audience have a single genuine emotion that it had to undercut every moment with an off-brand Whedonism. We were about 2/3rds in and the movie had yet to bother itself with giving me a reason to care about the generally useless, unlikable band of heroes aside from the fact that Skeletor was worse. Hanging around for the end would have been pointless, because there was literally nothing this early-2000's patchwork cockatrice of a script could have pulled out of any orifice that would have persuaded me to give a damn. And that line about poets and soldiers? I suspect whoever wrote that knows jack and shit about either subject. So yeah, that was a waste of time. And I'm glad it's bombing at the box office, because that's probably be the nail in the coffin of a big budget Thundercats movie, and thank fuck if this is the level of quality we could expect.
