Okay one of my favorite things in media is Found Family and I was thinking about all the different and interesting dynamics that are found within that trope!! These are all the different types I could think of:
Found Family (True): We are a group of people that hang out together. As a whole we grow closer and learn to see eachother as a loving and supportive family. (EX: Black Clover)
Forced Family: Weve all found ourselves in a fucked up/unideal situation and in order to get through it we MUST bond together even if we hate eachother at first. (EX: James and the Giant Peach)
Find em All! Family: We are largely facilitated by One Guy collecting random people and adopting them into the family/randos adopting the collector whether anyone likes it or not. (EX: Campfire Cooking in Another World)
Fucked Family: We make eachother so much worse, actually! Its sort of fucked up what we have going on, and what we do to others, but we support one another nontheless. Its us against everyone else (and maybe eachother, sometimes) no matter what. (EX: Its Always Sunny in Philadelphia)
Flipped Family: We are actually a literal family, but because of the type of bullshit weve got going on, we've become strained/estranged. We are just now coming back together and learning to love/care for eachother and we may pick up a few others on our way. (EX: Schitt's Creek)
Forbidden Family: By all accounts, we shouldnt even be friendly with eachother, let alone a family. We're supposed to hate eachother!! How the fuck did this happen???? (EX: Tis Time for Torture, Princess!)
Fraud/False/Faux Family: We have to pretend we're an actual family, but theres no real attatchment, haha. We each just get something out of it is all. There's no way we actually care about eachother..... right? (EX: Spy X Family)
Thats all I have right now, and the examples are ones just off the top of my head and maybe not the best to showcase the different types lol.
Let me know if I'm missing anything, or if you have any other examples!!
