Hi! Iβm glad to see some people have found this page recently. I know this is a sambucky blog but I was kind of thing about doing comic reviews of series that I read. I read a lot of comics and want a place to share. I donβt know if anyone would be interested tho. Let me know !!
I am currently reading Westcoast Avengers with Kate, Clint and America. Hereβs a little panel I enjoyed :)

In this run of The Scarlet Witch, Wanda has opened a shop up in Lotkill, NY. She is in her redemption era where she has decided to try and use her magic, that has historically been twisted and misused, for good. Wanda opens up her shop along with Darcy Lewis, with the front of being a cute bookstore in a completely normal town. However, her shop has a secret that only reveals itself to those who are in desperate need called the last door. It is the absolute LAST option that only presents itself to those who are in desperate need of assistance and have no one else to turn to. This 10 issues run follows Wanda as she helps those who tumble through her door.
Who Goes There:
Many people come through Wanda's door ranging from characters we haven't seen and wont see again to some familiar faces. One of Wanda's first visitors is Viv Vision.
Viv, who had been plagued with the grief of her mother's death, seeks Wanda's help. Turns out the DreamQueen is living in Viv's mind and causing these never-ending nightmares. Wanda frees Viv from the DreamQueen's grasp. This being the second issue, it had some really touching moments about those we consider family and those we turn to when things are hard. It also has strong themes of grief if you are familiar with The Visions (2015). I wrote a review for that run as well (check it here). I found this to be a very strong start to the series, and it only kept getting better.
A Sibling Arrival:
Issue 3 starts with the entrance of Polaris. Lorna and Wanda are trying to solve their rock mystery when they are interrupted by Mardj, a microscopic being from Tryfa. I wont go too into detail about her story as she is a charter that most likely wont be seen again. However, the story is cute and the art along with it is told so beautifully so definitely don't skip this issue. At the end of it, Lorna and Wanda are on Krakoa having a cute sibling moment in which Loran reminds Wanda that she is enough and does not need to carry the burdens of her past like a lead ball. The issue ends with Wanda returning to her bookstore to find it in flames and Darcy being carried off by a member of the Bacchae.
(Issue 3)
The Bacchae:
This issue opens with Scythia, leader of the Bacchae, having a face off with Wanda in which Scythia claims Darcy owes a debt to the Bacchae. Darcy joined the Bacchae as a journalist and killed one of the sect sisters in an act of self defense. In the showdown between Wanda and Scythia, Scythia launches the mysterious rock, that has been plaguing Wanda with questions, through her shoulder. This leaves Wanda injured and both her and Darcy are committed to solving the mystery of this rock more so then ever considering Wanda's magic is useless against it.
At the end of the issue, Scythia has been banished however, In the next issue she returns covered in armor that is made out of the same material as the mysterious rock. A fight ensues between the both of them and seeing as Wanda's magic is useless against this material she has to fight old school. Its nice to see her not always rely on her magic but still be clever enough to find a weak spot and end the fight. This issue ends with an appearance from someone who is long believed to be dead.
(Issue 5)
A Family Reunion:
in this issue, an enemy of the Kree/Skrull allice falls through Wanda's Door. Wanda brings her back to the empire and is faced with Teddy and Billy (<3). Billy and Teddy are soon to want the enemy to answer for what she had done however, Wanda believes there to be more to the story then what was on the surface. They come to a a truce for the time being and end up finding the real enemy and have him delt with. It ends with Billy and Wanda having a nice moment together about how to try and make their respective worlds better then they found them. The issue ends with Wanda's return tot he bookstore and the previously mentioned dead man walking through her bookstore.
(Issue 6)
A Yellow Brick Road?:
This issue starts with Magneto and Wanda discussing how he could possibly be alive, standing in Wanda's bookshop. While this guy has the body and power of Magneto, he is not him; he is simply a clone. Wanda knows this and knows him to be Joseph. Wanda, in this moment, still hasn't processed everything with the loss of Krakoa and most of the Mutants she knew, including Magneto. However, her moment of grieving is interrupted when Nelson Gruber falls through the last door. His whole story is basically a parody of The Wizard of Oz, which is quite funny and enjoyable, with many references to the original movie. Wanda returns to Lotkill and off to a far-distant world, while Hexfinder plots her vengeance on Wanda.
Chaos & Mischief:
This issue has Loki's mountain giant cousin falling through the last door, begging to lead his people. Wanda accepts his plea and heads to Jotunheim, where Loki is found to be leading them. Wanda tries to bargain with Loki on behalf of Arkin's grief, which leads to them having a magical duel. The magical duel is more of a tango in magical word play. Wanda strikes through Loki by saying they will never be the person that people are capable of loving. a bit harsh, yikes, but it causes him to yield. The issues end with Wanda's return home to help Joseph while he searches for his own answers.
Team-up Time:
The majority of this issue is spent with Joseph and Wanda going on several smaller adventures to one-off realms to help people with a couple of small anecdotes here and there. When they return to the shop, Joseph can shape the mysterious ball that has been plaguing them this whole time. He shapes it and cuts Wanda's fingers off. The issues end with Hexfinder appearing through the final door.
The end?:
This issue focuses on the battle between Hexfinder and Wanda. Hexfinder makes it virtually impossible for Wanda to use her powers, but as always, she finds a way. Darcy gets into Joseph's head and begs him to help her. He does by eventually bringing down the mysterium that dampens Wanda's powers. Wanda defeats Hexfinder, but in doing so, Joseph dies. He dies getting to be the person he was always told he could be.
(Issue 10)
Final Thoughts:
Overall, I am a sucker for anything related to Wanda, so I can never have too many issues with Wanda's stories. However, after having read the other Wanda stories written by Orlando, this one is probably one of the weaker ones. There is a lot of filler plot with not much story advancement happening from issue to issue. I am a D1 Orlando fan and defender, so I can't hate too much, but I do think this series could have been a 5-issue run with less plot filler.
I love the inclusion of her family in some random scenes, and I love the premise of her finally trying to set everything right as a sort of recompense for everything bad she's done in her younger years. If the story had been focused more on that, I think it would have hit hard instead of in some small moments between her siblings and Darcy.
