the forest in late autumn
The muted colours and open views of the forest in late autumn is fascinating to me. Perhaps it's the exercise of finding patterns in the detritus of nature. Or maybe it's the way the forest has decluttered; all the decoration -- fruits, flowers and fascinators -- has been stripped away (to become a carpet of rich humus) so that only the most essential remains.
more than one way to get there
I like the juxtaposition of the build and natural environment here... The hard-edged lines of the metal stairs against the curved branches of the tree, and the car window, reflecting it all...

A late autumn afternoon
The sun slips toward the horizon... bathing the world in golden light.

Crossing the Kennebecasis River, while heading to the Kingston Farmer's Market on a Saturday morning shopping expedition. The air is fresh. I stand outside the car for the 10-minute crossing and breathe.

St James Anglican Church, at Long Reach on the Kingston Peninsula, was built in 1843 (consecrated in 1845) by local craftsmen. It features a rare triple-decker pulpit, and is still in use today.

Summer evening, Roberts Court
It was the No Parking sign that caught my eye, and then the scooter. Or perhaps it was the other way around? At any rate, it just seemed to say "summer" to me!
Last song at twilight
The skies after the weekend storm were turbulent, and we are still getting strong winds. But life continues, as it always has. And - in our neighbourhood - the robin always has the last word.
After the storm
Many trees were damaged or destroyed when the remains of Hurricane Arthur blew through the Maritimes. In our neighbourhood, most folks were lucky -- trees fell into the street and not onto the houses. Many people were walking around after the storm, stopping to shake their heads at the damage, and mourn the fine old trees that had been toppled by a combination of 90-km winds and 100mm of rain.
Pink lady's slipper
A rare treasure I found on yesterday's walk. It's always worth taking the time to look at the world around - you never know what you might find!

A foggy walk with Fergus
When I awoke this morning, heavy fog coated the world outside my window. The fog brought an introspective mood: quiet, mysterious, gentle. I needed the fog to slow down, to stop and look around me instead of rushing into the day. Since I had woken up early, I decided to head out for a walk in a nearby park. And suddenly Fergus was there, in front of the door, ready and oh so willing as I grabbed my camera. Taking photos with one hand while holding a leash with the other can be quite a challenge, but I was glad for the company and Fergus was (mostly) patient as I stopped frequently on our walk through the wet and foggy woods.
