Adrian is actually some form of aromatic (maybe asexual too) (not fully, more like demiromantic), I have thought about it for a long time (not really) and here are my arguments.
He calls Marinette just a friend for a long time before he finally realizes his feelings. And I get it, he just doesn’t know how relationships and crushes work, but it could also be that he needs a strong friendship before he develops romantic feelings.
So now to the thing with ladybug, he isn’t really in love with her in the beginning, he just thinks so because he has seen a bunch of tv shows and that is all that he has to reference. In them the hero and heroine is always in love so he thinks that is just how it is and therefore thinks he is in love.
