Is The Venus Flytrap Post Cute?

All finished! I will absolutely be doing more with splicing colors together, it’s a really nice effect and will help out a lot. DMC has so many colors but somehow I still manage to feel limited by them on occasion.

These are some of the healthiest looking glass flytraps I’ve ever seen!! Great job, op!

The red coloration shows that they are getting enough light, and the approx 90° opening angle shows that they are growing actively and have great moisture levels.

You might notice that these flytraps don’t have any trigger hairs inside the traps— that’s actually one of the defining characteristics of the glass flytrap group! The few species of glass flytrap that have trigger hairs re-evolved these independently of the trigger hairs in your typical non-glass flytrap.

Decided to start a new alpha bracelet since I needed something to do on Plane Ride and I’ve been meaning to make one since I haven’t touched the technique since like last year. Was originally going to do monstera leaves but it just wasn’t turning out the way I wanted. And then I remembered I can literally do whatever plant I want so I’m doing the ever-glorious venus flytrap. My actual flytrap is doing AWESOME and I am a very proud plant parent.

I think it depends how you define cannibalism for plants—most carnivorous plants could be called cannibals if eating any other plant is cannibalism, since bugs eat plant material and would still have some in their stomachs when eaten. If we’re only considering plants eating the same species (like we do for humans, since eating other animals isn’t considered cannibalism), then plant cannibalism might be a lot rarer.

More importantly, are humans cannibals? When humans die, we also eventually become soil, plants take up nutrients from soil, then other humans eat the plants.

Does that make most humans cannibals?

Flytraps can eat spiders, but it depends how big the spider is and how big the traps are (they can be many different sizes!!)

The spider looks a lot bigger than this flytrap, but this is a human-flytrap hybrid, and not your typical plant-only variety. Depending on how hungry this human-flytrap is, it could probably take a pretty big chunk out of this spider. It also appears to have a single sundew-like limb, which would make it a lot easier to catch the spider!

Carnivorous plants are super cool, and are specialized for specific habitats (that’s why they are carnivores!). But, a lot of these habitats are shrinking or being damaged by many things, including those mentioned by OP!

The Venus flytrap, one of the most iconic carnivorous plants ever, is only native to an area within a 75-100 mile radius (120-160km) of Wilmington, North Carolina.
