When I was a new parent we had children's centres that had health visitors and nurses come and visit to answer questions and play groups and support and they were fantastic and were a massive help in getting me through the rough first few years and helped me be the kind of parent I wanted me to be

Most of them are closed now

We need investment in community outreach. Investment in groups that support marginalised communities and investment in infrastructure and third spaces where people (including kids and teens!) can meet and socialise

Invest in places where doctors and nurses can answer questions

Where social workers and volunteers are available.

Give education and services that support local communities and facilitate understanding

More importantly give people more safety nets so they don't feel so fucking desperate and stop hiding the safety nets we have!

Governments when presented with a social problem love to respond with "it is now illegal to have social problem"

because theyd rather someone stay terrible or just straight up die than become a better person

it isn't law yet, however. so don't freak out, yet. or at all because the best thing you can do is be calm. it still has to pass senate and that's a fact.

keep calling your reps... especially the ones who have voted specifically for the kids act + kosa. reminder that these aren't the only bad bills they're passing. i forget all of them (since they total as 19, i believe) but the screen act and appstore accountability act are especially alarming.

call, email, fax, and write to your senators! resources are right down below as usual for easy access! (badinternetbills provides you an email script and the names of senators. it's super easy, anyone can do it with just a few clicks. if you don't feel like calling you can wait until after hours and leave a voicemail. you can always write a letter, but i'd advise you do that immediately so it's seen as soon as possible!

and if you can't do any of those, it's okay. just keep spreading the word and not only on tumblr. make videos to post online and persuade family into contacting local congress as well (but be careful with who you tell, because they might just be in favor of these bills)

You know how this goes. If not, this is a method of mass censorship and data collection that has been attempted for so long. This is not about children. Censorship does not protect anyone; support, resources, and information do.

They want eyes on everyone and they want to put people like you and me back in the closet for whenever it gets worse. Protect your people. You cannot concede. Do not let them even have the first step forward to what they want. Give them Hell, but do it legally and the right way.
