A Buddhist attends Bible Study A regular customer of mine invites me to attend a Bible study. At first I said not tonight. I told him maybe next Thursday. Honestly I was hesitant because I did not want to go. At all. I did not feel like being surrounded by strong minded christians. Strong minded meaning that they wholeheartedly believe that their way is the right and only way. Strong minded meaning they believe that all other paths are less then that which the Bible preaches. And actually all of that is OK. It is important to believe in your path. You have to. You should believe in it. But do not be so strong minded that you talk ill of others and their paths. Do not be so strong minded that you judge others more than you accept them despite their different beliefs. Or none at all. That to me would be a negative environment and I did not want to be in it. So I said not tonight. But as I sat in the cafe I couldn't help feeling that I should go. I messaged my customer back and said, actually I'll join you guys. Just before they came to pick me up I felt that I needed to sit in front of my Gohonzon and chant. I am very happy that I did. You know I talk of other people being so strong minded with their beliefs - their religions and being negative of others of different paths not realizing that I was thinking negatively of them and their religion. Attending this Bible study tonight was really a lesson for me. I was surrounded by individuals who did feel very strongly about their beliefs. Who felt strongly that Jesus IS the truth, the way and the light. That he is the path to God. That is not what I believe. This was a challenge for me. So before I got picked up I chanted for love and understanding from myself especially. I wanted to enter the meeting with a warm and open heart. At the end I Ioved and enjoyed the Bible study. And I loved and enjoyed the company of everyone who was there. It was a humbling experience and I am so happy that I had gone. A bit about me. I only did one semester at a University. My roots - my childhood was lived in Palau. My teen years and entire adult life I've lived in the beautiful U.S. of A. My mother passed away my Freshman year of high school. Her teaching lessons ended and so she had to return. I am stubborn and independent like my father who hates when I try to help him. I am a Buddhist. Specifically, I practice Nichiren Buddhism. Once upon a time I was fueled by hate but over the years in my journey of self-evolution that hate turned into understanding and love. My biological father committed suicide. My friend committed suicide. My cousin - my brother committed suicide. I once locked myself in a room and cried with a knife on my wrist. And I don't think I was even 10 years old. And I probably would've also committed suicide while in Chicago if I didn't have my dog. It wouldn't have happened anyways because it wasn't in my life contract. I know I'm gonna live a long life. I know I'm gonna outlive a lot of people I care for. I know you don't get how I'd know that. But that's ok. You will when the time comes. I Love working. I Love my customers. I Love coffee. I Love books. I Love writing. I Love being goofy and weird. I Love not caring what the world might think of my life's decisions. I Live my life carefree. But still respecting others. That's the balancing act. Living life not giving a damn what anybody thinks but still respecting them.
