OK so, I’m calling this theory,
Corporate Conditioning Theory
I did a bit of a deep dive into Red’s character throughout the show so I could see just how deeply ingrained Mira propaganda and rules are in both Orange and Red to compare to what degree how polar “Fed up with/anti Mira” Red and “Captain” Red are from each other.
My theory is that Mira uses a sort of conditioning tactic to make their employees docile and compliant.
They probably use mental, emotional, and psychological conditioning techniques and manipulation to basically reprogram employees in simplest terms. I think it gets more intense and they employ it more often the closer you are to the inner corporate circle, hence why Orange is CLEARLY more conditioned than Red. They are HR, which is more corporate than a pilot/captain.
Red seems to have been through propaganda hell and back, and conditioned to be ignorant and oblivious. Red clearly shows some level of intelligence and competence especially near the end when they’ve lost trust in Mira and seem to drop the Captain persona.
I think Mira is specifically conditioning their employees to be like “Captain” Red so they can easily manipulate them and control them.
All in all Mira is basically the company/gov from ALIEN x St. Olga's from SVTFOE and gods is that love child ugly.
I decided to make a sort of “continuing where the show left off and filling in the time it takes to get to Mira HQ” AU that expands on this theory. Basically post finale, Red actively tries to undo all the conditioning they’ve undergone but they’re really fucking bad at it. They won’t tell Purple because Red thinks that will cause Purple to trust them less because of Purple’s trust issues and paranoia.
