Granted, the only IRL equivalent of Jax is, well, Gooseworx. But I knew someone just like her.
They were abused by their mom and used that as an excuse to verbally abuse everyone else on our Discord. They organized raids against us, used the r-slur against me, and targeted a ton of autism-specific abuse and other hate speech at me specifically. They told me to kill myself and shit. But they always used the fact that they were abused as an excuse and got away with it on those grounds.
Eventually, they gave up, and thank god. After a few years, they came back. Everything was forgiven. Even I forgave, at the time. But they never apologized, and then they contrived our community as somehow leading to them facing further abuse.
And, look, they didn't deserve to go through any of that, but there is no excusing becoming the abuser. This is what pisses me off the most about Jax apologism. This is part of what pisses me off so much about Gooseworx apologism. You're not just defending a fictional monster, but the real ones, too.
But this isn't the shitty bunny show. I'm not getting over my real-life Jax. I'm not gonna get over the nights I spent crying because they told me to commit suicide and that I'd never accomplish anything. I'm not gonna get over being DMed their real self-harm wounds and guilt-tripped and blamed for it when I had nothing to do with it.
This wasn't a "complex character." This was cruelty, and the exact kind that everyone else seems to have a blind spot toward. I hate how all the harm they did to me was ignored and forgiven on my behalf. I hate how everyone gets away with hurting me.
