âIâve really tried to understand the Israelis. I used to work on a farm in Israel. I speak Hebrew. I watch their news. All the time they talk about fear. How they have to run to their bunkers to hide from the rockets. How their children canât sleep because of the sirens. This is not a good way for them to live. We Palestinians donât talk about fear, we talk about death. Our rockets scare them; their rockets kill us. We have no bomb shelters, we have no sirens, we have nowhere we can take our children and keep them safe. They are scared. We are dying.â

Imagine having been born in 1905... And all your life it doesn't fucking stop. The Great War, the Spanish Flu, and then you go out of your mind for 7 years. Everyone is traumatised and nothing matters. Then another crash. And then the rise of fascism, and the War to end all Wars didn't and it's 1945 and you're just about still there. You may have fought or ferried the boys from Dunkirk or sabotaged the Nazi occupiers or worked in the factories and put out fires during the Blitz and you're lucky to be alive, because not all your friends made it. But you are and finally, fucking finally, it stops. It stops. You are tough as nails and you can put that strength to work into building something and you do, and people have cars and can buy icecream and you have a pension fund and the kids have money of their own and no nightmares.
I want that for us. I so want that for us. I want to be the generation that has seen fucking everything and is like a MRSA bug and unfazed and when that Cheeto finally dies, I want us to. Plant the gardens and clean the seas because we can and we want to and we remember some joy, some time of trust even when it got broken and we can say to the 20 somethings "let us show you what we can build, how it can feel."
And maybe Gen beta will take it all for granted like the boomers did, but we can give Gen Z and Alpha some peace because we, and Gen Z and Alpha have seen the Dark Times and fuck that noise.
At the start of the Pandemic, my spouseâs grandmother was in an assisted-living home, and of course they were severely locked down, because with no vaccination available and we donât really know how it spreads and no tests and anyone over 80 is deffo gonna dieâŚ. They couldnât take the risks. So they werenât even allowed to leave their rooms. Staff brought meals and left them outside the door, and they left dishes outside, and that was just their life for the foreseeable future.
So we tried to make sure someone called her every day, so she would have some kind of interaction, and one time my spouse asked how she was doing, and her attitude was basically, âYeah, this happens sometimes.â
Because that was her life. She did live through the depression, she did lose three siblings to the last pandemic. She did live through WWII, and sent a son off to Vietnam, and made a family and a household and a career while knowing one slip of a button might wipe out all life on earth. And she lived through it; she survived.
And so 2020 wasnât the end of the world, for her. It was just another thing. Because life is made up of sunshine and rainbows and puppy dogs, AND ALSO fascists and violence and rancid millionaires living high while people starve. And when you are in the middle of the shit times, you acknowledge that theyâre shit, and also that they are not exclusively shit, because they still include spring days and new flowers and people taking care of each other.
And it was just⌠a really helpful perspective to get. You can survive it, you can become strong enough to live to 103 despite everything, you can become a source of strength and joy for everyone around you.
People straight up do not realize that part of the reason manufacturing is not returning to the United States in massive waves is because we have things like âOSHAâ and âenvironmental lawsâ and âminimum wages.â
Itâs not even just about fair wages. Itâs literally about the fact that you canât dump industrial waste in a river here anymore.
Our cheap goods are so cheap because South American and Asians environments are being destroyed so you can buy a $40 pair of shoes every 3 months.
Cutting granite countertops has lead to a rapid increase in silicosis in the lungs out in California. All the working men and women in my family have died from pulmonary fibrosis. They were carpet layers, Post office workers, floor tilers. Staying safe in manufacturing jobs is annoying but also very, very expensive. Real manufacturing factories belch smoke and dust and grime that causes asthma and birth defects in surrounding communities. Everyone wants their manufacturing jobs back until they realize their kids are living directly under the Asthma Plant.
There will come a time when the workers in these countries rise up and demand better and things will start to even out, but if you want to honestly âdo your part,â you gotta stop buying cheap shit for no reason.
Not every event needs to be celebrate with a baseball cap or a coozie or a t shirt or a keychain. Not every wall in the house has to have a picture or a cute phrase on it. The knickknacks are killing people.
Yep!
insanely good takes from @sixamese-simblr that shouldn't be hidden in the reply

Dudes healthcare is so fake. My ADHD meds are $940 without insurance. But they gave me a website of "coupons" which straight up looks like a scam website, and I got it today for $60! Just a coupon from a random website and it was $900 cheaper. America, I am confusion!! America explain!!
For all my uninsured judys out there it's for Walgreens only: walgreens.rxsense.com
as a pharmacy technician i can share with you some websites that give you those "coupons" for your meds!
goodrx is the most well known one, but if i'm trying to find the cheapest price for a patient i compare it to scriptcycle, and use whichever is offering the best price. you just type in the medication (PLEASE make sure you're getting the right drug, dosage, and quantity) and your zip code and they will spit out some offers for you
some pharmacies may have their own discount card to compare to as well!
if you are getting a name brand medication, you can also look at the manufacturer's website to see if they offer any evouchers for you to use too
good luck out there đ
How to Pay Hospital Bills When Youâre Flat Broke
another one is singlecare.com, brought my duloxetine from $240 a month to $20
and there are coupons for hrt on there as well :) different options for different pharmacies
dollarfor.org saved my broke ass, it can save urs too

What the media won't show
Itâs actually pretty nuts how there is no real mass media coverage of the protests that are happening all over the US. It demonstrates fairly conclusively that the unlawful activities at the White House arenât just limited to Trump. Thereâs a lot of wealthy people in powerful positions in the US and around the world helping to support the dismantling of the US federal government.
Senator Cory Booker is holding the floor of the Senate and says he âwill speak for as long as Iâm physically able to lift the voices of Americans who are being harmed and not being heard in this moment of crisisâ.
Heâs still going, BTW.
If he makes it to 7:19 PM, ESTâso, three hours and a couple minutesâhe breaks the record from when Strom Thurmond filibustered the Civil Rights Act of 1957.
Not that that actually does anything, but on the symbolic level itâs kinda neat.
Edit:
Also worth noting, other Democratic senators taking turns to ask questionsâvery lengthy questionsâto give Senator Booker a chance to rest his voice. These include Sen. Chris Murphy, Sen. Andy Kim of New Jersey, Sen. Peter Welch of Vermont, Sens. Dick Durbin and Tammy Duckworth of Illinois, Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand of New York, Sens. Tina Smith and Amy Klobuchar of Minnesota, Sen. Ron Wyden of Oregon, Sen. Raphael Warnock of Georgia, Sen. Chris Coons of Delaware, Sen. Mark Warner of Virginia, Sens. Elizabeth Warren and Ed Markey of Massachusetts, Sens. Chris Van Hollen and Angela Alsobrooks of Maryland, Sen. Maggie Hassan of New Hampshire and Sen. Ben Ray LujĂĄn of New Mexico.
List via NPR, as of a couple of hours ago; they seem to be updating it periodically.

Did I do this right
Link here and here
To those of us in the US, waking up to Senator Cory Booker from New Jersey currently filibustering in the Senate Chambers. This is a masterclass in using the US Government's policies for potential change. He is filibustering against the current government's actions. This is what a filibuster is supposed to be here for. Between back-and-forth questions with other senators and reading letters from Republican districts, people who won't go see their constituents.
If he reaches the 24-hour mark, he will pass the historical marker of the longest filibuster, which was set in the 60s by Strom Thurmond, who was attempting to stop the Civil Rights Act.
You can watch his filibuster live on TikTok. He is trying to ensure the whole world can see what is happening in the US government and what the people actually want.
Bravo, Cory Booker. Let the resistance take the momentum started by AOC and Bernie, add Cory and Chris Murphy, encourage all Democrats to speak out, and keep these fascist Republicans on their heels.
Punch back.

NJ Democrat senator Cory Booker takes the floor in protest of Trump/Musk, "saying that he will keep going â'as long as I am physically able'.â
âI rise with the intention of disrupting the normal business of the United States Senate for as long as I am physically able,â Booker said at the outset of his remarks. âI rise tonight because I believe sincerely that our country is in crisis.â
âIn just 71 days, the president of the United States has inflicted so much harm on Americansâ safety; financial stability; the core foundations of our democracy. âThese are not normal times in America. And they should not be treated as such in the United States Senate.â -source
I am posting this at 2:30am EST. He has been speaking since 7PM EST. This link (at this moment) is to a live stream.
FUCK YEAH, JERSEY!
So very proud of my state at the moment.
Daily fucking reminder that Luigi Mangione is innocent, completely and fully. He has been convicted of no crime. He has had no fair trial. He is a SUSPECT. Luigi Mangione is entirely innocent and everyone needs to stop parroting this insidious propaganda that he âcommittedâ the crime he is only SUSPECTED of. He is not a murderer. He is not a criminal. He is an innocent man.
Put this out about Luigi Mangione.
